It was a quiet night off the coast of Hawaii. The sky was clear and full of stars and a gentle breeze came in from the sea, curbing the oppressive heat of the summer night. The War had been over for three years and it had been seven years since the attack on Pearl Harbor. The American economy was on the rise and everyone was glad to have their sons back home. All was well in America, but the same could not be said for elsewhere in the universe.

A strange phenomenon lit up the skies that night: at first, it appeared that a pair of comets were streaking through the sky, both heading in the same direction. The one in front moved slower than the one behind it, though it took about five minutes for the chasing comet to catch up. Suddenly, there were bright flashes of red and green light in the sky, lighting up the Earth below. The flashes lasted for only half a minute, but ceased with a pair of brilliant explosions. For a while, that seemed to be the end of it, but half an hour later, something entered Earth's atmosphere. Had anyone below not noticed the brilliant display above, it might have appeared to be a simple meteor burning up in the atmosphere. Unlike a meteor, though, the object did not burn up but instead continued plummeting towards the Earth below like a fiery javelin hurled by some cosmic titan, only to splash down in the ocean ten miles off the coast of Hawaii.

This marked a turning point in the history of Earth: from here, everything could change or nothing at all could happen in the grand scheme of things. The course of history would be decided, for better or for worse, by the men and women who became entangled in the events to follow.
