Zhuge Liang, a famous strategist for the kingdom of Shu, should've died during the northern expansion of the kingdom, after the Battle of Wuzhang Plains. In this story, however, he was felled at the Battle of Red Cliffs, survived by his wife, Yue Ying.
Xin Kai was an infantryman for Shu who found himself thrust into the role of strategist, following Zhuge Liang's death. He would meet Yue Ying, who was closer in age to him than Zhuge Liang was.
Eventually, the two grew quite close. In his tent at night, in preparations for the northern expeditions, he pulled Ying close and gently pressed his lips against hers. Even though she wasn't considered to be beautiful by most, Zhuge Liang saw something in her: not just beauty of the body, but beauty of the mind. Kai saw this too...
