Q/S: Disabling Chat Side Tab?

This is just a quickie. I've just been wondering if its at all possible for users to manually switch off/disable the chat tab on the side of the screen? I have no problems with it when using my desktop, but if trying to access the site on my phone it seems to be making the whole thing run super slow. Which can make managing posts and PM's a tedious task at best. I've tried looking in the CP options but failed to find anything obvious that enables me to do what I wish here.

Not on-site. You could use Adblock though.
