It was almost like an addiction, a powerful calling that had this man return to this town repeatedly. Every year, on the same day, around the same time he would appear. So badly he wanted to skip it just one time, to avoid the trip and save himself the thoughts. Who was he kidding? He almost looked forward to it, to allow her beauty to dominate his vision. These thoughts seemed to get him through the year, a time frame he had forced himself to obey.
It wasn't just that, this was the day she was the weakest, the day when her powers couldn't be even slightly tapped to protect herself. For this reason the day had been decided, he couldn't allow her to die. It was easy for him to close his heart off, he had done it for centuries and knew he could continue to do so without worry. Even still he struggled with the When, why, and how he should tell her. Let her know she was met for more than the lifestyle she had been living, that greater things were within her reach. The sun had yet to raise as the small black house cat materialized in the middle of her front yard.
He was already in a casually stride like he had just simply walked here out of thin air. The large dog that protected and watched over this house and her family was still there and alive. So much so, it rose from the sudden appearance and growled at the cat like it could sense something about him. Those bright yellow eyes focused on the dog for the briefest of seconds, flashing as if letting the beast taste a hint of his power. Letting him foresee his own destruction if he moved from that spot. Like every year since his first visit, the dog yelped and instantly remembered the feline.
He went back into his wooden home where the a juicy steak awaited him, his reward for knowing its place. "Nasty beast." The cat would mutter as he ascended onto the window seal of his target where he passed through the window like he had walked through a sheet of water. Why did he even bother to enter her home each year? The cat was sure she had no idea who he really was. That the man she meets later in the day was always there first thing in the morning to purr and rub himself against her. He never woke her up so early though, she needed her sleep and he would allow her.
Like each time, his weightless steps would walk across her body before coming to lay on her stomach. There he curled up and allowed himself to wait until she rose.
