Autumn wanders into an alley, tears streaming out of her green eyes. She goes to the back of the alley and sits down with her knees to her chest. Her clothes were in rags and her long brown hair with brownish orange and black highlights is dirty.

She sits there crying. Her last owner had abandoned her earlier that day. She had no one to go to and nothing to eat. She felt she should be happy to have finally gotten out of that place and away from her cruel owner but couldn't stop crying.

A little while later close to night fall her hunger had become to strong to ignore. She gets up and walks out out the alley. She wanders around the town once again. She sees a street vendor selling food to what looks like a wealthy man. (He can be your character if you like.) She sneaks over to food and grabs some apples. She then tries to run away with them.

Stewart sighed as he walked down the street. The past couple of days had been hell as he had been assigned paper after paper for his college classes and his job felt like it would honestly never let up. However these next few weeks his classes seemed to actually be lessening the workload and he would be able to have a couple nights actual sleep. His thoughts however were torn from that as he saw a rather large man who seemed to own a his food cart, something not that uncommon to see so close to the university grab hold of a cat girl. At first Stewart didn't know what to think, he heard the vendor yelling at the girl how she was a thief and how she had better put the food back and scamper off before he called the pound. Now why Stewart did what he did he honestly had no idea as to why and he ran over to the vendor, the out of breath look he had after sprinting over there was actually going to help with the story he came up with. The vendor looked confused as a young man ran up to him as Stewart smiled at them and he pulled out some money.

"S-sorry... I just rescued this girl you see, you can kinda tell she really doesn't have anything... I asked if she wanted food and she sort of ran off before I could give her the money to pay for it." he looked at her as he gave her what looked like a painful bop on the head but was really a tap as he handed the vendor the money "Sorry for the trouble, there is a little bit extra for bothering you" he said as the vendor let go and Stewart began to lead Autumn away "Now, say you are sorry to the nice man and promise me you won't do it again" he said as the two continued to walk away before they turned the street corner a little ways down and he turned to look at her.

Now Stewart was a pretty good sized guy, standing over 6' tall he had a pretty good physique, nothing like full six pack but still strong arms and strong legs and no real gut to speak off. He was dressed pretty nicely, especially compared to her rags as he had on a pretty new t-shirt and some jeans and sneakers. He looked down at the little cat girl as he knew that she would just go to living on the streets again and likely get caught by, if not that vendor, another vendor or meet some nasty fate. "Hey, are you alright?" he asked as he smiled softly, moving down so they were standing at near perfect head level as he looked at her "Hey... I know this may be a bit odd but would you like a place to stay? At least for tonight? I can even make you something better than just a couple apples if you want"

Autumn stared wide eyed at the man trying to save her from the vendor. She had to look up at Stewart because she was only about five foot two. Her amazement turned to confusion as he actually pays the vendor extra for the trouble she had caused. As all this is happening she is tightly holding onto the apples not wanting to give them back but, her features were in a sad state, her tail was limp and her face was dirty with a frown across it.

When Stewart tells her to say sorry she continues to walk and quietly says "S-sorry. It wont happen again."

Once they turn the corner and Stewart starts to talk Autumn starts to stare at his feet. She doesn't do anything until he asks if she would like to stay at his place. That's when her ears perk up and she nods. After all she knew living on the streets would not be the best decision. She only hoped that this man would not be like her previous owner.

Her stomach growls slightly as he talks about food. She moves her hands over her stomach while feeling faint. She falls to the ground and passes out because she hadn't eaten for days. Her Master had starved her before abandoning her.

Stewart reached out, managing to grab her before her head impacted with the ground as he was muttering out "woah what the?" as he looked at her. Her rags looked very torn, hell her body looked a bit abused as she was practically skin and bones in his arms. Gently picking her up he picked up the apples which she dropped on her way down, dusting them off as he carried her the last block to his apartment complex. Ok sure his place was not the best as he opened the door to a small one bedroom apartment but it was what he needed. With a nice queen bed in the bedroom and pretty good furniture, a couch, TV and coffee table as well as the kitchen essentials and a table with chairs the place was pretty well furnished. He laid her down on the bed as he sighed, hoping she would not be mad as he stripped her from her dirty rags and he wrapped her up in one of his hoodies, zipping it up the front after getting her arms through the holes it practically looked like she wore a dress considering how much smaller she was as it went down to nearly halfway down her thighs. Hoping she would not be mad he still folded her rags and left them with a small note telling her that he would get her clothes if she wanted and she could throw the rags away. He just did not want to without her consent.

After he finished there he left her to relax, hoping she would wake to the smell of food as he washed off the apples and he cut them up for her before he opened the fridge and pulled out some leftovers he had. Some salmon from the other day that he quickly heated up and put onto a plate for her as he went back into the other room, gently nudging her awake "hey, wake up, food's here" he said as he gently set down the plate with the salmon and apple slices on the end table with a glass of milk as he backed up a bit to give her room and eventually left as she was not waking up right away to just sit in the other room and watch TV.

After Stewart leaves the second time Autumn wakes up, her body feeling extremely weak. She slowly sits up in, what to her, was an extremely comfy bed. She smells the food and looks over to it. She smiles and then notices that even her clothes feel cozier. She looks down and notices she has a soft, warm hoodie on her. She had no time to think about how it got on her though because she starts to eat the salmon. It was one of the best meals she had ever had. SHe smiles as she slowly eats it and looks around the room. Autumn starts to stand up after finishing her food and milk but because she was still weak she fell to the floor. "Ouch!"

Hearing the thump Stewart quickly rushed in to see her on the floor, gently helping her up he laid her down on the bed "hey, you ok?" he asked as he looked at her head, trying to make sure she did not bonk it or anything as he sighed. He could tell she was pretty messed up still and while the meal helped she was clearly going to need to be watched like she was a young child to keep her from getting hurt. After all since meeting her she had nearly gotten herself beaten and having fallen over twice he began to question how old she was. Since nekos and humans aged and showed their ages a bit differently.

Gently smiling when he saw she was pretty much ok as he said "here just lay here and relax, you are in no position to be moving around" he said though thinking 'apparently'. "So... what is your name?" he asked trying to get his mind off of her injuries as he said "my name is Stewart..."

She looks over at him with a confused expression while laying down on the cozy bed. She is confused as to why he was being so kind. Her past owner would have teased her and maybe even had beaten her for not being able to move. She felt more helpless than she had ever felt and hated the feeling. "Thank you. My name is Autumn. Please don't hurt me for questioning your kindness but why are you being so kind to a stranger like me?"

She puts her hands on her head and hides behind them, expecting to be hit.

"Because you needed help and I wanted to help... that's all" he said giving her a small smile "With my work and my classes I don't get much time to actually hang out with people and I had hoped that maybe if I helped you I could convince you to stay with me for as long as you want to. I would appreciate the company and it would allow you to have 3 meals a day and of course sleep of the street" he said being completely honest about it. He could tell though that she didn't fully seem to grasp the nice thing for a nice thing idea so he gently placed a hand on hers as he said "I won't hurt you... I know I sort of faked the bop on the head earlier but it was to make sure the vendor would leave you alone... I swear I won't hurt you"

She peaks out from behind her hands. "O-okay."

She slowly pulls her hands away from her face and looks at his face. "You sure I can stay here? I mean Im not in the best condition right now. I cant do anything for you in the state I am in, sorry."

She looks off to the side, at the floor. Autumn hands then turn into fists as she thinks about her past. Tears come to her eyes because she had so many emotions welling up inside her that her body didn't know how to react. "S-sorry I don't mean to cry."

She puts her hand up to her face and starts to wipe away her tears.

He only smiled softly and he nodded "Look, I'm fine with you staying here and I understand. You are not well right now and you need the time to get back to proper health... If you still want to do anything for me when you get to proper health then we can discuss it now. How about you just rest up for now?" He gently patted the top of her head as he said "Would you like anything else? I was going to let you relax here and I would go watch some TV but there is one in here so I can relax with you if you want"

She nods. "I-I guess I could use some company." She scoots over a little to make room for him to sit next to her.She pats the bed next to her. "You can sit here if you want." She forces a smile and wipes her face. A few tears are still falling from her eyes. She watches Stewart intently wondering if he would take her offer. She doesn't watch him for very long though because her eyelids start to drop. It had been a very long day for her and she was still very tired. She gets cozy and closes her eyes, not caring about her surroundings.

Autumn wasn't used to calling people by there names so she was afraid to call Stewart by his name. She still couldn't wrap her head around the thought that this man cared about her when her own master hadn't.

Sitting where she offered he nodded as he gently reached out, gently petting her head, moving hair from her face as he also wiped away some of her tears as he said nothing, not knowing what really to say or do until she was ready to eat again or if she wanted to talk. I mean what exactly do you say to someone you met and rescued from a life on the streets?

Autumn sleeps through the night, twitching every so often from bad dreams. Her nightmares were filled with her old Master and what he had tried to do before she had gotten kicked out.
