Jake Parker hated school. Well, not really hated it per se but he definitely didnât like it most days. It just always seemed so dull. He got good grades, though he never seemed to work really hard for them, and he had a few friends but nothing here ever seemed to excite him anymore. Thankfully he was a senior now and just had to survive this year before moving on to the next stage in his life. He could only hope college would be better.
As he entered the school in the early morning and headed for his locker, he wasnât paying attention to where he was going. The collision rocked him sideways, staggering him into the lockers, where he steadied himself. He glanced down and saw books and papers scattered everywhere. Knowing they werenât his, he figured they belonged to whoever he had just run into and he began to pick them up. When he had them all gathered he stood and turned to the student heâd hit.
He froze immediately, his eyes staring. Standing before him was a girl heâd never seen before. And he knew this with a certainty because, had he seen her before, he most definitely would have introduced himself before now. She was of average height, like him, and had fiery red hair that cascaded down to her shoulders. Her eyes were a bluish tint, which really grabbed him, and her figure was rather shapely. He let his eyes flick over her briefly before smiling. âIâm sorry about thatâ he said, holding out her books. âI wasnât watching where I was going.â He studied her for another second. âYouâre new here arenât you?â he finally asked.
