"Just a minute!"
Jake Meadows called out upon hearing the knock at his apartment door. The 21-year-old junior at Southeastern State University strolled out of his bedroom and to the front door. Answering it, he saw his older brother, Josh, waiting for him.
"What, did I interrupt your jerk-off time?" Josh asked before casually strolling in. The elder Meadows brother was a 23-year-old graduate student who decided to enroll at SSU to not only further his education, but to also "keep an eye on his brother," as their father put it.
"No...actually, I was just finishing a paper," Jake replied as he watched his brother walk in. "What time are Mom and Nana coming again?"
Josh looked down at his watch. "Should be here within the next 20 minutes or so," he said, staring at the second hand as it ticked through his thick-rimmed "hipster" glasses, as Josh and his sister called them. "And you look like hell, so you better get changed before they get here...you know how Mom is with waiting."
Jake sighed, walking down the hall toward his bedroom in his wife-beater and basketball shorts, his muscular arms on full display. "Don't worry. I have my clothes all ready to go. Relax, tightass."
Josh shook his head and sat down at the kitchen table, opening a pizza box that was on top. He scrunched his face at what he saw inside and quickly shut it. "Don't you ever clean up here? Damn..." he called out, throwing the box away.
Jake came out wearing a polo shirt that still allowed his muscles to show through and a pair of dark jeans. "I've been at the library most of the week. Haven't had time to clean up."
"Probably the most time you've spent there since you've been here, huh?" Josh asked, a smile on his face as he could feel he was pushing his brother's buttons.
"Why do you always gotta get on my ass about this shit? I hope you're not going to be like this all weekend because I'm just gonna stay here if you are..." Jake fired back.
The building sibling tension seemed to dissipate as the brothers heard a knock on the door and some more pleasant-sounding voices.
