Her fingers abruptly came to a halt as the sound of footsteps approached her door. Her deep blue turning to face the door of her room as if daring the figure to enter her room. Kyra was very much aware that her brother would never dare to enter her room. The last time he had had been several years ago, and Kyra had made it absolutely clear that he wasn’t welcome here. And ever since then she’d been avoiding him, playing the part of a hateful sister that wanted nothing more than to see her brother dead. Exchanging no more than a few words each week, at first glance they might as well have been complete strangers living in the same house, and Kyra was intent on keeping it that way.
Listening as the footsteps gradually faded, she slowly made her way over to the door, placing her head against the door of her room and listening for any signs of life. She’d already overheard her brother talking to someone over the phone a few days ago about going out today, and Kyra had been eagerly anticipating her brother’s departure ever since the sun had come up over the horizon today.
Hearing the definite click of the front door, she took a deep breath. Slumping against the door and waiting a bit longer, she wasn’t in much of a hurry seeing as how he’d be gone for a good hour if he was watching a movie. What concerned her more was the possibility that her brother would return early like he had last time. She could have sworn her heart stopped beating when she’d been forced to hide under his bed, while her brother searched for his wallet. The experience was thrilling, but not something she wanted to experience again…. It was just too risky.
Waiting a good 10~15 minutes, she finally reached up and wrapped her hand around the door handle. Cracking the door open just a peep and glancing around the deserted hall. Cautiously listening to the silence once more. Her parents were both out today, god knows where, and Kyra couldn’t care less where they went. It wasn’t her business. Taking one quick glance at the calendar by her bed, she nodded once in confirmation that today was indeed the day she’d marked with a big red heart mark.
