New York.
Even as she stepped off the bus, Jessica still couldn't believe it. She had just turned 18 a week ago, and here she was, on her own in New York City! The day before she had settled in at her dorm in NYADA, New York Academy of the Dramatic Arts. She was a dancer, and had wanted Julliard, but that had proven to be too much competition. Before she had even managed to see the stage, they had already finished filling their open slots. It had hurt, but... NYADA wasn't exactly a step down. She had never thought about being on Broadway, but being in NYADA, now it seemed a natural next step. Of course she would miss her family and they would miss her, but... she was living the dream.
The city was amazing, fast paced and wild. Or, at least, wild to her. Jessie was a 5'7" cowgirl from Montana that was too skinny for her own good, pale, and covered in freckles. She had picked up dancing from her mom, and it just happened that she had been good at it. State fairs, talent shows, dance classes, and now NYADA. And now, she was out on the town. Some girls she roomed with had invited her out to a club, one of a few that allowed minors in and slapped bands on the wrists of them all to tell them apart for those that could drink. They'd said it was a hot place to go dancing and cater to NYADA dancers the way bars catered to NYADA singers.
"Jessie, over here!" a familiar voice caught her attention, and Jess waved enthusiastically at Kenzi. The spirited girl was half native american and they had a lot in common, both being country born and all. Even so, Kenzi looked like she belonged here. Jessie had her long, red hair pulled back into a tight pony-tail and simple, neutral make-up that made her grey eyes look silver. Her royal blue dress clung to her body in a way that felt wanton to her. It was the most fashionable thing she had ever owned, and she loved the heels Kenzi had let her borrow. She wasn't really short, but the heels made her feel glamorous.
When they got to the club, they fit right in. Jess couldn't really believe it when they got waved forward in line. She looked and felt like one of them. "God, this is wonderful," she told Kenzi, who agreed whole heatedly. The music was great, the lights were dancing as much as the people on the dance floor, and everywhere was another gorgeous guy looking at her in ways no one ever had before. "We should dance," she shouted over the music to her friend. Taking each other's hand, they made their way to the dance floor and joined in to the madness that seemed to be completely controlled by the DJ.
People seemed to be everywhere, crushing in on them at all sides. It was strange at first, but became heady as time went by. Kenzi stayed close for the most part, the girls feeding off each other while the beat moved them. At least, until a guy they had met earlier at the dorms led her off for a drink. She had tried to drag Jessie along, but, the dance floor was simply where she wanted to be, and the Upper class-men didn't seem like the best thing to play with. For a while, Jessica lost herself in the music. Various people came and went all the while. She danced with girls, guys, anyone that happened to be there. Here, in strange way, she felt more alive than ever before.
