The sky hung heavy with thick, grey clouds and a low rumbling threatened in the distance. The people of the city hustled about, anxious to finish errands and find shelter before the dark, looming clouds above released their burden. It was an old city and proud with history, tradition, and even a little mystery, but it had yielded obligingly to the modern age when the time came. As the first drops began to fall, there was a great rustling of umbrellas and raincoats as the commuting business men and women hurried to protect their tailored suits and silk blouses. Before long, the few drops had turned into a downpour and the streets were flowing with murky water as the rain washed the city.

On a far street corner, a small figure stood, drenched and solitary in the pouring rain. Upon closer inspection, one might make out the soft form of a female body, her soaked garments clinging sensually to her delicate curves. She made no move to escape the deluge and simply stood, hands folded demurely, waiting and expectant at her post. As the people hustled past, she smiled at them sweetly from beneath the dripping strands of her lank, black hair. When she saw the figure of a man, her deep blue eyes would widen with soft and hopeful expectation. Then, when he would pass on without so much as a nod or a smile, her eyes would fall back to her sandal clad feet, crestfallen. Was she waiting for a lover? Her family? What kept her so devotedly in the chill wet of the afternoon? No one knew or bothered to ask. They were all busy with their own problems and the rain really was quite persistent.

”The jury has voted for the defendant, Kevin Gavinne, to be not guilty.”

Jerry had been sitting inside the court for the last couple of hours as a apprentice of one of the lawyers that had been leading the case against Kevin Gavinne. As it was announced that Kevin was found to be not guilty, Jerry had let out a deep sigh amongst the chorus of sighs from his colleagues and from the prosecutors. Even though they had lost the trial, he had been able to learn a lot about the legal process from watching it all from the back.

As Jerry was about the leave, one of his colleagues yelled to him.

”Hey Jerry!”

Jerry turned around to face him with a small enthusiastic smile on his face, saying 'We will do it next time!' with his body-language.

”It's raining pretty heavily. Might want to go and purchase an umbrella on the way home. There's a store just to the right once you leave the building.”

He gave Jerry a cheeky smile and a pat on the shoulder. Although it was obvious that neither he nor Jerry were too happy about the verdict, they were both not shattered about having lost the case.

”Thanks. I was worried about having to waltz in the rain for the next hour; That would've been terrible.”

After leaving the courtroom, Jerry went to the shop on the right, purchased an umbrella and marched into the rainy evening. Because of the rain, the streets were mostly empty. Perhaps you'd see a car here and there and a person running across the street, but generally, there was almost no one.

After walking for about half an hour, he saw a weird woman on the sidewalk, standing about 35 meters away from him. She was just standing in the rain, without an umbrella, and without the proper clothing, getting herself drenched in the rain. Why? Who does that? At first, he didn't let it bother him; He just wanted to get home. But when he got closer to the female, she began smiling to him, like she had smiled to so many others. Her smile made him realize that he couldn't just leave her there; He had to give her his umbrella. He didn't have to walk for too long anyway; His apartment was right around the corner.

”Here... Take it.”

He returned a quirky smile as he reluctantly gave her the umbrella. It only took a few seconds before he realized just how bad an idea it was, as the rain had begun drenching him instead of her. Regardless, he manned up and pretended to be just fine.

”I won't need it anyway.”

He said before he began to walk away from her, waving goodbye without looking at her. He was aiming straight for his little apartment, which was located a little further ahead.

After the initial press of the crowds scrambling to get out of the weather, the roads quickly cleared and the woman was soon quite alone. But that was okay, she was used to it. The feel of the droplets bursting against her flesh was pleasant and she held onto the hope that she would find the thing for which she was looking. Still, the constant disappointment was wearisome and she took to looking down at her feet more and more.

So it was that when she saw a pair of polished men's dress shoes intrude on her line of vision, she looked up with a considerable start. Her eyes met the kind, smiling face of a handsome man. He was fully matured, she could tell, but still relatively young and full of youthful vigor and stamina. How beautiful and perfect he seemed! When he offered his umbrella, her eyes widened and she placed one delicate hand just above the curve of her breast as if to ask, "For me?" She cautiously looking to his hand and his face several times before timidly grasping the handle of the umbrella and pulling it to her. Her expression was one of pure joy as she beamed at him from beneath the shelter of her gift. She even offered a quick sort of bow, an archaic gesture in the city, but charming nonetheless.

As he turned to leave, her smile faded slightly. He had only just arrived, did he have to leave so soon? Her hand reached for him and she let out a plaintiff sigh, but he did not notice. For a moment, she simply watched as his form, wet and miserable in the rain, slowly retreated. Then, all at once, her feet began to move of their own accord. It was not a choice, it was instinct. Something beyond the woman's thought or will. Her sandals splashed in the puddles, gaining speed and soon she matched his pace. She was still far behind him, but if he looked back, he would see a shy figure holding an umbrella, following in slow but steady pursuit.

”Yeah, yeah, it's for you. I'm busy.”

He had quickly replied as he awkwardly jolted onwards, not looking back at her as if he was embarrassed at having given her the umbrella. After walking for a bit, he noticed that she had begun walking in the same direction as he. The splashing noises didn't really worry him though. Perhaps she just needed to go in the same direction, right? Distracted by the rain and by the desire to just go home, he hadn't attributed anything to the strange woman's desire to follow him.

After walking for a while, he had almost reached his home. However, it was about now that the occasional splash from behind him began to worry him. He looked over his should in a confused manner, and indeed, there she was. Not being afraid of confrontation, he turned around and walked back towards her.

”Is there a problem?”

He asked her, not sure whether he should be angry, confused or indifferent.

For quite some time she had followed behind him, a distant but every present figure. Her shyness did not permit that she follow too close, but she always stayed in his sight. When he turned back towards her, she raised one arm and waved happily. As he approached, her body overflowed with happiness. It was such a joy to be near this good, strong, and fertile man. When he approached her and asked if anything was wrong, she smiled up at him and shook her head. No, everything was wonderful. For the first time, in a long time, everything was just perfect. Couldn't he see that?

She took a shy step forward and touched his arm, looking up at him imploring. Her face was sweet and gently rounded with the most startling blue eyes and slightly pouting lips. Her crystal blue eyes locked with his, silently trying to communicate something to him. They were wide and innocent as a dove, but there was something unsettling and alien in their depths, something the man would not be able to either dismiss or define.

If Jerry knew the town as it truly was, he would know that it was very old and very strange. The towering modern buildings and buzzing streetlamps were just a facade covering a land that had once been wild and mysterious. No one saw them now, but the elder citizens who knew still told stories of the strange creatures that once lived there. Creatures that defied logic and science and lived amongst them, lurking in the sewers, sneaking in the streets, and hiding in the urban decay. The young people would laugh to hear them, but the wise and wary should heed the words. Not all who called the city home were human.

When she touched his arm, he glared in a confused manner at his arm, quickly retracting his arm back to his personal space. Not only was it weird to be touched by someone that had been stalking you for a while, the touch itself... There was something off about it. He looked back up at her, as to say something, but her looks left him stunned for a small while. Did she always look so... Eh? He couldn't put his finger on it, but it didn't look normal. Perhaps she had some weird kind of gene that made her eyes look weird? He couldn't tell.

He had heard some tales, but mostly, he had avoided listening too them for too long as a kid. He had been more interested in playing soccer or talking up girls or the like. If only he had listened; For he was now standing in front of a living and walking version of said tales.

After looking at her in a confused manner for a while, he finally composed himself and asked her another question...

"Wh-what are you doing...?"

Her expression dimmed when he pulled his arm away from hers, disappointed. She wasn't too discouraged, however. He had chosen her, whether he had meant to or not, and in return she had chosen him. They were now bound together by invisible ties and it would take more than a little apprehension on his part to sway her. Still, humans were notoriously fearful of the unfamiliar, so she would be gentle with him. For now, at least.

His words prompted a response, but the words came slow and careful, as if they were difficult to summon, being pulled from a great depth. At first when he asked her, she had only looked confused, and furrowing her eyebrows had thought for a moment. When she finally spoke, her voice was sweet and silvery, though it had a strange liquid gurgle to it at first.

"Thaaaaannnnk Y-yooou~"

Lightning flashed, lighting up the sky and, just for a moment, the woman's skin. The light illuminated her body and seemed to filter through it, refracting inside of it like glass. In a blink of an eye, it was gone and her skin had returned to being milky white and flawless. She only stared and blinked at him innocently.

"Thank you...?"

Jerry had copied her answer in a confused manner. Her voice was sounding weird, and the reply itself didn't make a lot of sense. She was seriously starting to scare him. While considering ways to get away from her without her being able to follow him, there was a flash of lightning, exposing her true being. He jumped back, his arms instinctively moving in front of his body as if to protect himself.

"You're!... Your body is!..."

He didn't stay for much longer; He turned around and ran as fast as he could.

As he turned to flee, the woman -or whatever she was- reached a hand towards him. But he was out of reach. It seemed she had spooked him somehow. She watched him for a moment with a blank expression, as his figure grew ever more distant. Then, clutching the umbrella, began walking in the direction he had disappeared. It would take some time, but she would catch up.

As he ran, he quickly grabbed his phone, the rain still pounding against his face. It was lucky for him that she wasn't an athlete, but quite unlucky for him that she was... Weird. Was she even human? It certainly didn't seem like it.

"I'd like to order a taxi..."

He gasped loudly into the phone, but it didn't stop him from getting a cab. He had to get away; He had to make sure she never learned of his home. The best way to do so, a hotel about an hours travel time in a car away from his home. Not much later, he was finally there, sitting comfortably in a poorly constructed motel; Time didn't allow for him to get anything nicer. Getting comfortable in his room, he was absolutely certain that the slime hadn't followed him. Although satisfied with his escape, he couldn't help but feel a little nervous. He looked up into the barely-painted roof and mumbled lowly for himself.

"What the hell was that?..."

After a while, the creature lost his scent. She came to a crossroads and did not know which way to turn. He had gone too far, too fast and even though she had quickened her pace, she had lost him. She let the umbrella fall to the side, and her liquid body quivered with despair. Looking up at the sky, she wondered what to do. The rain had begun to clear and a silvery full moon peeked out from behind the retreating clouds. It's light shone through her body like blue glass.

The woman was not human. She wasn't even a mammal. Her entire existence was left wholly unclassified by modern science. She was a creature made entirely of clear, gelatinous liquid, most commonly called... a slime. Her particular sub-class was known as a nureonago and was especially good at mimicry - an adaptation used to help acquire food. The clothing they generated was always wet, which was why they only came out in the rain. Her guise had been dropped for the moment, as she stood wearily in the moonlight. It was exhausting keeping up a human appearance, especially without the nourishment she needed.

For a while she just stood there, letting the remaining raindrops land and roll down or absorb into her jelly skin. The creature wasn't quite sure what to do. Then, she closed her eyes and focused. He had gone far, but they were still connected. She could still feel his mana, his life energy. In one direction, there was a significant residue of it. That, she realized, must be his nest. In the other direction -oh joy- was a strong concentration of it that must be him! With renewed energy, she picked up the umbrella, cloaked herself in human form, and began walking again.

A few hours later, she arrived at the hotel. There was the smell and presence of many men here, but she knew only one to be hers. Smiling at the manager as she went in, she made her way straight for his room, leaving damp footprints in the carpet as she walked. When she arrived at his door, she knocked. It would be easy to slide in through the crack in the door, but the umbrella would not fit. And she didn't want to leave his precious gift behind.

"Oh well..."

Jerry turned in the motel bed, trying to find a comfortable position. It was difficult for him to calm down though; The experience was all too great an impression for him to simply shove it away. A subconscious fear rose within him, dominating his conscious self with pure paranoia.

"Damn. It's been at least two hours now..."

The itching feeling that she knew where he lived had penetrated to the very depths of his mind. It was irrational, but he was powerless before the irrationality.

"Who does something like that anyway?... What does something like that?"

A few minutes later, a knock could be heard by the door to his room. In confusion, he looked up towards the door, his eyebrows furrowed. Why would the roomservice knock on his door only a few hours after he had ordered the room? Weird.

"Eurgh, I'm coming..."

He slowly raised himself from the bed and traveled towards the door, before slowly opening it. When he saw her on the other side, he instinctively slammed the door shut again, locking it as he did.

"W-What the hell are you doing here?! H-How did you find me?!"

He stepped away from the door, glaring at the door as if he had seen a ghost... No, a slime.

When he opened the door, her face lit up joyfully. Her instincts had led her right to him. She smiled at him cheerfully and waved one hand in greeting.

"Hiiiiiii~"

BAM!

She blinked, stunned. Her human had slammed the door right in front of her. For a moment, she waited. Was he coming back? Click. There was the sound of the door lock sliding neatly into place. It would seem that he was quite determined to keep her out. Her lips turned down into a frustrated pout. It seemed there was no other way. She gingerly propped the umbrella out of the way and leaned forward to examine the door. Hotel doors were well sealed for sound proofing, so it would be a tight fit. She spotted a place where the weather stripping at the top of the door had peeled back and grinned.

Looking up and down the hall to see if anyone was coming, she dropped her guise. Once again, she was a clear blue, bouncy liquid in the form of a slender female human. Then, all at once, she melted. Her body sank down to the ground into a gooey wet mound of slime. Then, the puddle stretched up across the surface of the door and slid into the narrow gap between the door and the frame. Bit by bit she worked herself in, until she was a puddle on the inside of the door. When every drop of herself was in, she would reform and greet her human again.

Inhale... Exhale... Inhale. Exhale. Inhale, exhale. Inhale! Exhale!
Due to the mere shock of seeing her again, he had begun breathing heavily. What was she doing here? How had she found him? Why was she following him? Questions stockpiled on top of eachother, as he stared at the wooden door in front of him. The most important one of them quickly took priority above the others; What should he do?

"Get away from me!"

He shouted instinctively, as if by reflex. He was blissfully unaware of the fact that she was sliding through the slid under the door; Though that didn't last long. Once about a third of the slime had gotten through, it caught his eye, and he jumped away from the slime. By now, he was seeing red, his mind blinded by panic. As he had retreated to the bed, he saw the slime reshape herself again in front of him.

"W-What are you?..."

As he had no idea what it was he was up against, he couldn't fight her; He could only run. And by now, the only way to run would be the window. Quickly, he rushed over to the window, but then he paused before facing her once again, waiting for some kind of answer.

"Why are you after me?..."

Get away? How could she do that? She had waited so long and come so far. Now he was in front of her, the one she needed most. Leaving was out of the question, and the slime shook her head, gelatinous locks bouncing as she did.

Such questions her human asked! Questions the creature could not find the words to explain. Human speech had always been so slippery and strange to her, she had never been able to fully master it. He was cowering now, slinking towards his only escape. This would not do. She wished to hold him and comfort him. It was her desire to show she would bring him pleasure not pain.

She took a few cautious steps forward, her translucent body shimmering in the dim hotel light. Smiling, she spread her arms wide as if to embrace him. See? I love you! her expression tried to declare, if only he could see. Closer she crept, her body shivering with the excitement it tried to contain. Would he try to flee? That could be a problem. She didn't want him to injure himself.

"G-Get away from me!"

He shouted as he desperately tried to open the window; However, it was locked. Why the hell would anyone lock the windows?! Without waiting for the slime to embrace him, he smashed the window open and leaped out as well as he could. Luckily, there wasn't a long way down from his window to the ground. To his dismay, the broken glass had spread all over the place, and as he landed, shoulder first, he dived right into a pile of sharp glass.

He screamed in pain as small fractures of glass got stuck in his shoulder, blood running down his side. He wasn't accustomed to pain, so any pain felt far greater than it actually was.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck..."

He repeated as he lied there on the ground. Damn. He had to keep moving. He had to! Although in pain, he tried to get up on his legs once again. Could he make it in time?

The slime let out a little cry of surprise as her human dove for the window. It seemed he was more frightened than some. As he fell, she stretched herself and reached for him trying to stop him before impact. It was no use though. She whimpered as she stared down at him, lying on the ground, struggling to get up. It wasn't good for humans to be leaking like that, she knew. He couldn't pull the liquid back into his body. They were much more fragile than her kind.

Tucking the umbrella under her arm, she jumped out the window and bounced down beside him. First, she assumed her more human guise, hoping to make him less nervous. Then, she approached him slowly, as one would a wounded animal, making soft soothing noises, hoping to calm him. He needed help, and she could help him. If only he would let her!

As she jumped down next to him, he couldn't help but panic. He wobbled up on his feet, the blood still running down the shoulder and the pain growing out of this world. He yelled and complained due to the pain, but he remained steadfast - or at least he remained steadfast for about three steps, before falling to the ground again.

"N-No! D-don't come close to me! I haven't done anything wrong! I'm sorry about the umbrella- I, I didn't mean to offend or, or-"

The pain scrambled through him again, and he yet out yet another scream. The strange noise she was making didn't help him either; To him, it sounded more like ghastly noises from some kind of mysterious horror-movie.

When he fell, she winced. Such a silly human. Why did he have to run from her? Lightly she ran up to his frightened from on the ground. She tilted her head as she peered at him, as if she did not understand his words or actions. Then, stooping down, she reached out and caressed his cheek with her damp hand.

"Stopppp," she said, and leaned close to his face.

He was hurting himself. He needed to stop and let the leaking of his body cease. She brought her face still closer to his and planted a sticky kiss on his lips. Some slimes use their saliva like liquid excretions to drug or enslave their humans but that was not the Nureonago way. Still, her fluid was ever so slightly narcotic and she hoped it would induce enough of a euphoria to relax him and ease his pain.

As the slime touched him, he froze, glaring up at the humanoid shape with panic all over his face. Was this it? Was he going to die? He didn't know what was going on, but he couldn't move. It was as if his nervous system had been overloaded from his previous terrors. She never had to ask him to stop, for he had already done so.

As she leaned in closer to his face, he gave up, giving in to whatever fate might have in store for him. He didn't expect his fate to involve a kiss though. Wait, a kiss? Wha- W...

Shocked, but in a less anxious manner, he let her saliva slide down without realizing, jumping away from her before the drug took effect.

"W-W-W-W-W-W-Why... Did you just kiss me?!..."

By now, his entire face was red, his facial expression showing a confused frown.

He seemed to have stopped struggling. This was a good thing. Whether by her command, or by his volition, she did not know. A gentle smile spread across her face. His surprise confused her. What had he thought she was going to do? Humans were such perplexing creatures.

In response to his question, she let out a small giggle. It was a bubbly sound, strange but not unpleasant. She reached out a hand and stroked his head, smoothing the hair away from his face. Kisses were the least of the things she had planned for her human, but she had to get him someplace safe first. His wounds needed to be tended.

Slowly, gently she tried to prop him up, lying in the middle of the street was no good. If she could, she would take him home.

He glared up at her, his teeth grinding together while his eyebrows furrowed with a tint of red, shaping a confused frown. Why didn't she answer his questions? Were she unable to? why did she just giggle? Why did she sound so friendly? The more he thought about it, the more questions began shaping up within his mind, and then, they all began to disappear.

"Wha-..."

He mumbled lowly, his face relaxing against his will, his eyelids bubbling forth and back, as if he was trying to resist the desire to sleep. Not only had he had a long day, he had also been physically injured, mentally stressed and now drugged. Soon after, there was little will left within him, and his head fell backwards, his entire body turning into a loose puppet without any muscular activity.

Well, that was a trifle more affective than the little slime had thought it would be. For a minute she stared down at her human with a confused smile on her face. Then he shoulders slumped as disappointment washed over her. He was asleep. How was she supposed to get him home now? He was too big for her to carry. She could drag him, of course, but that seemed dangerous... and dirty. The nureonago hated dirt. For a moment she stared at him, perplexed. Then, suddenly she wandered off. It wasn't something she liked doing, but she knew where she could find some help.

-----

When next Jerry awoke, he would find himself safely tucked into his bed. His wounds would be dressed, his clothes removed except for his underwear, and the room dark. The soft patter of rain from the remaining storm could be heard outside. If not for his bandages, he might think it had all been a dream.

"Ahragnmblrrrrr..."

He made some low weird noises, as if lowly complaining about his complete lack of energy. It wasn't due to the narcotic saliva, more than it was due to some physical exhaustion. His muscles felt stiff, and the wound beneath his bandage didn't feel like it had healed just yet... Wait... Bandage? When... What?

Slowly, he raised himself from the bed, glancing all over his room. His very own room. How he got here? No clue. He took his unharmed hand and placed it up by his forehead, his mind still somewhat groggy because he had been sleeping a bit too comfortably.

"Coffee... I should get some coffee... And some breakfast..."

When he went to the kitchen, he would find there was a pot of fresh coffree already made. On the counter, was warm buttered toast with jam on a plate waiting for him, covered to keep it from getting cold. The only other thing suspicious about the kitchen, was that it was unusually clean. The sink was also stoppered and full of a thick blue liquid.

-----

The nureonago was as exhausted as Jerry. In order to get him home, she'd enlisted the help of some wild slimes to help carry him. They were less civil and more pushy than she and it had taken all her strength and quite a bit of bargaining to keep them from raping him in the middle of the street. As it was, she now owed them an offering of a male or two in return for their service, a debt she would have to pay soon.

Once she'd gotten him into bed, she'd had to tend his wounds. They weren't as bad as she had feared, or she would not have been able to treat them herself. Once finished, she had peered down at him affectionately. It had taken all her will power not to taste a bit of what was hidden beneath his underwear, for she was fairly starving, but she refrained. The nureonago believed in taking care of their humans and this one needed his rest. So, she had folded and put away his clothes for cleaning later and wandered around trying to find a place to rest. It was the wee hours by then, and she knew he'd need nourishment when he awoke. After tidying the kitchen (which was in apalling shape by her standards) she had prepared him a quick meal before collapsing into the most convenient place for her- the sink.
