Jason Maverick was standing infront of the cell door, not moving a muscle he was wearing a uniform that looked much like a SWAT uniform without any letters and a gas mask. You never knew what freak would come in and what power they might have, so they always wore the most protective gear for multiple circumstances. This was all required by the C.F.A, the Comtainment Facility Assosiation. As mentioned, they captured and contained mutants tobprevent them from harming innocents, and the government had been starting a testing program on the mutants, who were mostly treated like animals. Then again, many of them acted like ones. Jason was mostly knew to this job, and usually followed the book. Main point being, don't do anything unless told to. Stupid equals death. Don't go into the cages unless told to, don't open the doors unless told to. Don't even blink unless told to. However, he couldn't help but sneak a few peeks through the nearly indestructable plexiglass at the obviously feminine mutant in the cell.

Alice sat in the cell, looking out at the guard who seemed to be right at the glass of her cell, wondering why he needed to be their. She had tried to escape before, but it was all in vain. Looking up at the ceiling she sighed softly, the heat lamp in the room warming her and giving a dim light to the cell. Alice's body was that of a human, but in areas such as legs arms back stomach and just above her breasts she had snake scales, the scientists had determined it to be a rare albino type snake. Her eyes were black and glassy looking, her hair strangely a deep red. The scales were not everywhere, areas like the front and sides of her neck did not have them, her face did not have any, and her lower female region both in front and back had no scales. She was slender and only stood about five foot five inches, and the scientists ha only given her a bikini type outfit so the heatlamp in the room would have full effect and keep her warm. Getting up from where she sat she walked over to her bed and laid down, finding little else to do, knowing the guards would not talk to her often, especially new ones like him, but she hoped in time they would loosen up because it was dull without someone to talk to. While laying on the bed she smiled a little not looking at the guard as she spoke, her voice soft and sweet, "You are new aren't you? I'm Alice... Do you have a name?" She asked. It was just a small harmless question, but she did not expect him to answer, most of them did not on the first week or so.

He looked around, making sure there was no one near. "Jason." he said quickly, still standing at attention. His voice was slightly muffled by the mask, but he could clearly be heard by her. Jason knew he shouldn't be doing this, and that she could be incredibly dangerous, but he had to admit that he was board just standing there. Which also made him wonder how board she must be, being stuck in that room all the time. That's probably why she was trying to make conversation..

Laughing softly she nodded, "Well its good that you have a name, they were originally going to just give me a number and leave it at that, but I did not agree, so they left my name as it was, though some of the guards call us by numbers, mainly the ones not so fond of my kind." She said as she looked over at him from the bed, "You won't get into too much trouble for talking to me, it is when the guards get talked into letting one out for a little that they get in trouble, or when they go into the cell without closing the door, that was funny, especially since the guy was getting scolded with his pants down around his ankles, trying to stand at attention as though it were normal." She said cheerfully, clearly having done that to someone before. Slowly and rather fluidly she got up from the bed and walked over to the glass, leaning against it while looking at him with a smile, "What did they tell you about me? I am sure some have had interesting stories. But I will say I am not poisonous, and if I were they would make sure to remove the venom everyday, so no snake bites." She told him, just happy to have someone to talk to.

Jason calmed down a little. According to her, the commander wasn't as uptight as the veteran guards had made hI'm off to be. "Well, I've already been trained not to do that." he said awkwardly, a little shaken at what her words were suggesting. "Well, they tolde not to let you get into my head, and that's pretty much it." Jason told her. He was telling himself that he wouldn't, but one couldn't be certain. She was very beautiful, after all.

Watching his body movement she could tell she had already gotten into his head a little and proceeded to talk with him more. "How can you stand such a job? Doing this? Having us contained. I have never harmed anyone until I was put into this cage, they assume I will harm someone, but they worry about nothing and capture people like me, locking them up for crimes they may never commit." She asked him, leaning against the glass a little to look at the mask over his face, tilting her head a little, slightly curious, "Don't suppose you would let me see your face under that mask would you? So I know I am talking to a person in their." She requested, her eyes looking at the mask the best she could from the angle she had available to her at the time.

"That's not my concern. I'm here to do mg job and get paid." he said monotonely. "I'm not going that far. The others will tell what's going on and I'll get fired. And I'm not ready to be unemployed." Jason told her. Then he started thinking again. "And maybe they're also protecting you from the outside world? And I doubt you'd get a job out there. You'd be broke and homeless. At least you get free meals here." he said to her, trying to make an argument to not only justify this for her, but himself as well.

His answer brought a frown to her full lips and she sighed, "Military men are always too uptight." She said absently while looking him over. His answer made her a little angry and she shook her head, "While I appreciate them keeping me same from other humans, they should not treat us as prisoners, or animals like they do. You can't deny scientists and many guards don't view us as people, merely as animals, and things." She snapped at him, moving back to her bed and sitting down, "It would not be so bad if I was not in a cell like a criminal and guarded like some killer." She muttered, looking at her scales for a moment, though not once did she regret what she was or what her life had been like before she ad mutated into what she was now. But she hated the way she and the rest of them were treated. Scientists viewed them as interesting lab rats and test subjects, sometimes forgetting to talk to the person instead of talking as though they would not understand what they were saying. While guards saw them as animals, and most of this a waste of their time, some even getting a little angry at having to guard these mutants instead of doing more important things. She positioned herself to lay on her bed again though her eyes did wander to him once and a while. "Do you have family? I had a mother and father, I don't suppose you might be able to find out how they are doing could you? They do not let us write to them in here." She asked, though she did not expect a yes from 'mr. stay to the book'. She laughed at the thought and looked back to the light above her, heating her room to the perfect temperature.

"That's the point of training." Jason said. He listened to her, but didn't give a reply until the end. "Yeah, I've got a family. Haven't seen them in awhile though." Jason said to her. Then he paused a little bit and turned around. "I guess I could try when my shift ends. What're their names?" he asked her, looking at at her through the window.

Hearing his answer she smiled and hopped up off the bed and walked over to the glass to tell him the names of her mother and father, though she assured him neither were like her, she just happened to be one of the few lucky ones that changed and had gotten contained because of her abnormality. Once she told him the names of them she could not help but smile, her black eyes almost sparkling while she looking up at him. "Thank you." She said through the glass though she knew he would be able to tell what she was saying. Hearing the bell in her room go off she looked up and heard one of the people over the intercom tell her that she needed to be ready to be escorted to her time with the scientists which often included being poked with syringes, and often she was returned to her room completely passed out due to being subdued after panicking when they do tests involving shots and withdrawing anything from her. Looking up at him she gave him a look saying she was sorry, knowing he would probably be the one carrying her back if she were tranquilized like the last few times.

Jason nodded to her to say 'your welcome'. Then the bell went off. Jason looked at her before walking to the door and openning it. He had one side of a pair of hand cuffs around his wrist. The other side was for her. "Safety protocol." he said to her, even though she probably already knew.

Looking down at his arm she sighed, nodding her head, "Yeah, to make sure their prisoners don't leave or do anything that they don't want." She muttered while moving and holding her wrist out to him so he could fasten the cuff to her hand though it was a surprise that they did not give him the leash they normally had for the mutants when bringing them to the labs, but she knew when she got their they would attach one, and have other restraints ready at the sides in case she over reacted, or so they told her. But it was a phobia and their was no telling her that it was nothing to worry about since for a while now they knew she was terrified of syringes and yet they used them on her at least once a week if not more. She walked with him through the halls, her body shaking a little since she was use to the warmth of her cell and seemed to shiver just a but, unintenionally moving closer to him and the fabric he wore, hoping it would produce heat. And knowing this about her the scientists also had readied the room to be warmer, but if she got out of hand or was too dangerous they would drop the temperature, which to snakes would put them to sleep temporarily. Once they got closer to the room she was being sent to she felt her heart beating normal then fast, knowing what was to come.

Jason felt her press up against him as they walked. Thoughts went through hissing to figure out why, and then he remembered. She was closed blooded. Obviously it was because she was cold, right? Jason wanted to be sure that it wasn't something else. "Cold?" he asked her for confirmation, still a little bit away fr the room, though it wouldn't be much longer.

Hearing the question she blushed a little at him noticing her movement closer to him, "Yes, just a little, and they don't exactly have this place made just for me, I always get tired when walking to the lab because it is not warm enough on the way their." She said softly, though the blush on her face might have said something else to him if he knew what to look for. Once to the lab she entered and almost right away a man and woman were talking up, attaching two leashes to her, one in each hand to guide her through the room which was cold, but the area they had ready for her had the same lamps her room did. Frowning she followed, though a little reluctantly. The male scientist instructed Jason to stand near until they had her properly secure then he could remove the cuffs and wait until the were done. They went through their normal routine of taking vitals, doing test on her breathing and blood pressure, then came what she had been expecting and feared. The doctor and assistant approached with what looked like empty vials, and in wrapping was an IV that would allow them to take blood from her and put it into the vials. She struggled a alittle against her binding, her eyes locked on the syringe as her skin was cleaned and it was brought to her arm and put into the vein their. She whimpered and struggled even more, trying harder this time to get the man away from her, but this was just the beginning.

Jason forced himself to believe that that was the only reason. Then they entered the room. Jason followed the scientist's instructions. He didn't like what he was seeing, but he made himself not show it, looking expressionless.

They had other syringes and began using one after another in various regions to give certain things they said she needed, but she was never told what it was, and that terrified her. The more it went on the more irritated and violent she got until one of her arms broke free of the man holding it (not your character) and stopped the person who was about to give her a shot again. It was at this time that Jason could really see how frightened she really was, her breathing rapid to the point of hyperventilating, her skin color more pale than the white it already was, panic in her eyes and even tears brimming them. Once she had become too hard for her to handle the scientist behind her stuck her in the back of the neck with something, knocking her out completely. It was a mystery as to why they tried to do everything while she was awake, but it was done now and Jason was told she would be knocked out for a little while and that her reaction to waking might not be so pleasant, though he had been told she woke up frightened more often than violent. The scientists did not seem to care, commenting on having gotten more shots into her while awake this time more than last time and that they were getting better at restraining the subjects.

Jason watched them warily, and then Alice broke free, though she was knocked out a few moments later. Jason couldn't help it now as discomfort and disliking were apparent through his appearance. Jason took note of what the scientist said and waited for a little bit before talking. "Should I take her back to her cell now?" Jason asked them, cutting in on their conversation.

The scientists looked at the man, as though they had forgotten that soldiers could talk, or soldiers never really talked to them much. But they nodded to him, motioning him over to her and giving the ok for him to take her back to her room, done with all of the tests on her and simply began getting back to work. The unconscious girl was soon deposited into his arms carefully, or as carefully as they felt like being. "You can put her back in her cell on her bed under the lamp to warm her since she will be able to recover faster once warm." They told him and then ignored him for the rest of the time.

Jason nodded and scooped her limp body up, carrying her bridal style back to the cell. When Jason got there, he managed to open the door as he carried her. Jason set her down on the bed and unlocked the handcuffs and went out the door. Jason periodically watched her, waiting for Alice to wake up.

It was not too long before Alice started to stir, but as the doctors had said she woke up shaking hard, unable to move at first except for that shaking and her eyes moving around to try and figure out where she was, able to now sit up and back as far into the corner of her room on the bed as she could, her hands going to checking her arms for any needles while panic still ran through her, then she realized she was in her cell and Jason was right outside. Looking up at him she was not sure what to say or think, he had seen her during the testing and figured he would either see her as weak or dangerous, either one left her tired and still huddled in her room against the wall while the warmth from the heatlamp eased her body into relaxing.

"Hey, you okay?" he asked her, turning his head back to look at her. The question was said casually, but it was laced with genuine concern. And it was pretty obvious that she was not, as she was panicking, huddled in the corner.

His question threw her off guard. Most of the guard never asked if she was alright and she nodded slowly but only after she had calmed down enough to talk. "Now you see why I do not like going in their and why everytime they have to knock me out. I hate it in their." She commented, looking up at him from her spot in the corner, "At least they did not freeze me, that hurts much more when waking up since you have your body getting blood flow and gives that feeling of needles in your body.

"You really don't like needles, huh?" he asked nonchalantly. "Listen, I've got a good trick for whenever the doc gives me a prick." Jason said. He couldn't help but give a little chuckle. "Anyway, what I do is I close my eyes when the time come and I press my thumb nail into my pointer finger. You're too busy worrying about the finger to notice the needle, and it doesn't even hurt the finger that much. Trust me, works every time." he assured her.

Hearing his suggestion she nodded a little but sighed, "I have tried, and if you did not notice, they did not just give one little shot or take blood, they had one after another and kept going on with tests and puncturing me. I guess I don't like the feeling of being surrounded like that by them, but they find my reaction entertaining seeing as how I have been here for a long time and they still do the same things to me each time." She said, her hand coming up to caress the skin under the collar which looked like it might have been bruised.

Jason's upbeat, confident attitude quickly began to dwindle. "Well then, hopefully I can get some good news about your parents." he said to her, not knowing what else he could do to make her feel better.
