Brandie Reynolds was taking a year off school so she could get to know her stepfather a little better she wasn't happy with the fact that her mother had remarried, she'd been forced to live with her after the divorce. She got along with her father better, very seldom every spoke to her mother but the school she'd chosen to attend was closer to her mother so her father said if she wanted go to that school she would have to choose who to live with. Of course she'd chosen her mother, had learned that while she was living with her father her mother had gotten remarried which didn't amuse her. She sat by the pool reading a book, working on her tan she was still focused on school she just wasn't taking classes at the moment cause she just needed a little break.

Randy Cruz slid the glass doors behind him, exiting the house and moving along the patio barefoot towards the pool. He slowly sat with his feet dangling into the pool near his step-daughter. His back turned to her, he spoke over his shoulder. "Another beautiful day." He didn't know Brandie very well, but he had been with her mother for a while now and so he had happily agreed to let the girl move in and gain residency for a reduced college tuition.

It had been years since he had last seen her, she was only a child back then, but the grown daughter interested him. He had found himself fantasizing about her while making love with her mother. He had kept to himself mostly since she moved in, letting the mom and daughter get re-acquainted with each other.

Brandie wasn't even paying attention to him, she heard what he said but she was focused on her book. She turned up her music, focused on her book as the sun hit her skin. It wasn't like she wanted to be there, she hadn't talked to her father since he dropped her off at the bus station since her mom lived a little ways out of town. It would have been better if her mom was around but because her mom got called off to something dealing with her work at the last minute she was stuck spending two weeks alone with her step father, despite her good looks she didn't have a boyfriend. She didn't have time for falling in love she wanted to make her parents proud of her cause she'd always tried to be the perfect daughter, yet her parents still split up.

Her response: Turn headphones up. His response: Take a dip in the pool.

He fully submerged himself in the pool before beginning his usual routine of laps with various different strokes. He caught glimpses of her between wide arc'd swings of his arms. Her mother was a few years older then him and had been quite successful in business. He had been a co-owner of a small upscale coffee shop that despite its business had been treading water. Conversation had led to some business interactions, for a favor which turned out to be to give her a good night out away from business. Things had gone over well between the two, there had been a few small indiscretions on both ends, but they had patched things up long ago.

These thoughts hovered around in his head between glimpses of the young girl strewn out in his lawn. He almost laughed to himself as he completed another lap, he had gotten himself a raging erection. There was next to no way she would possibly notice, but he had a feeling his laps were going to be quite long today. Long enough to avoid having her see it.

Brandie turned the page in her book, didn't even notice the fact that her step father was looking at her. She was almost finished tanning, planned on going inside to take a very relaxing bubble bath or maybe she would take a shower she didn't really know. All she knew was that she didn't really fancy being outside much longer, she closed her book picked up her towel then headed into the house. Her bikini accentuated all her best features, the bottoms certainly helped her ass out. She walked inside, headed straight for her room without even exchanging a word with him. Once she was in her room she walked into the bathroom, ran the water for her bath then stripped down as it filled the tub. She put her hair up in a messy bun then poured in some lavender bubble bath, turned off the water once the tub was fill enough. Carefully she stepped in, let the water submerge her entire body as she leaned back against the tub closing her eyes.

Shortly after she went into the house he climbed out of the pool. He picked up a towel and wrapped it around his waste. Half of him felt dirty about it, the other half told him it was totally natural to be interested in a young attractive female. He went back to his room and tossed the damp bathing suit in the hamper as he climbed into the shower for a quick rinse to get the chlorine off his skin. He climbed out and toweled off, looking at himself in the mirror for a long moment. He laughed to himself about it once more, before throwing on a tank top and gym shorts, comfort outweighed style inside his home.

Heading down the hallway he knocked on Brandie's door, calling out "Do you want me to order out for dinner?". He normally cooked, but he had a feeling she wasn't going to be too keen on sitting around a dinner table with just him. She seemed impartial to him, or to be harboring a resentment, and he wasn't going to force her to break it down. He was unsure if he even wanted to try and warm up to the girl, unsure that it was in his best interest.

'' Take out is fine.. Just so you know I like sweet&sour chicken if you order Chinese, anything else is really whatever as long as it doesn't have mushrooms anywhere near it.'' Brandie said as she shouted at the door she was still in the bath, almost ready to get out. After she answered his question she climbed out of the bath, drained the water wrapping a towel around herself. She walked into her bedroom, started to dry off starting with her hair then her body as she listened to the radio. Her mind was on various things, as she got herself dressed she dried her hair then combed it out finally just sat down on the edge of her bed. She missed her dad, wished she could just go back home but apparently her father didn't want her around, she didn't really know why until he'd told her she reminded him of her mother.

Randy made his way down the hall and down the stairs. He grabbed the cordless hanging in the kitchen on his way to the TV room, a large spacious space with a bar on one side of the room. He ordered a pair of dinner combos, General Tsos and Sweet and Sour Chicken while he fixed himself a drink and moved towards the L-shaped couch. Feeling the leather against his skin as he leaned back into it and began to relax. He idly left the news on and let his mind drift off.

Thirty minutes later, there was a knock at the door. He shouted up the stairs as he moved towards the door. "Dinner's here!" He gave the driver a decent tip before sending him off.

Brandie sighed, opened her bedroom door. Rolling her eyes she reluctantly walked down the stairs, into the television room. Taking her food out of the bag she carried it into the kitchen grabbed a bottle of water, sat down at the mini island that sat in the middle of the kitchen. She opened her supper, poked at the water chestnuts with her fork then started to eat it with the chopsticks that were supplied. Opening her bottle of water she took a few swigs, continued to eat her meal in peace totally ignoring the blaring of the television she had also ignored the fact that her father was dressed like he was going to work out. She found herself disgusted with the way he acted like he didn't really have much of a life, with her mother gone she felt really awkward around him so she planned on avoiding him at all costs.

He set his dinner down on the table next to her and quietly moved through the kitchen and into the TV room. He poured himself another vodka, and reached under the bar into the mini fridge removing a redbull and pouring some vodka into another glass. He topped both ice cubes and moved back into the kitchen. He clutched the red bull with his pinky and ring finger, the other three holding the glass he set in front of her. He set his own drink down as he cracked open the redbull and poured it into the glass. "Someone had your mother try one of these not too long ago, she loves 'em...." He set the open redbull next to her water and took a seat opening up the lid to his dinner and setting a napkin in his lap.

" Are you serious? I'm not even twenty years old let alone twenty one, I don't drink alcohol it's bad for your health..." Brandie said as she pushed the drink away she wasn't interested in what he was trying to do, once she was finished with her supper she stood up throwing away her trash. She placed a strand of hair behind her ear, washed her hands then started to head back to her room using the stairs in the kitchen.

Randy quietly ate after her comment. He didn't know a teenager who didn't want a drink, let alone one that turned one down from a sibling. He poured the redbull into his own drink and had no problem finishing both off.

He decided not to press the young girl. She was going to warm up to him, or she wasn't. It really wasn't something he was going to push on her. Besides, he was attracted to the pretty little thing and thought it might be a good thing that she was so hell bent on not liking him. Made it much easier to not make a pass at his wife's daughter.

With the meal finished he made his way back to the TV room and put the news back on with a fresh drink. He didn't have any meetings or work related schedulings for a few more days, so he was content with enjoying his free time.

Brandie entered her room rolling her eyes as she closed her door, turned on her music. She sat down at her computer, started to look over her e-mails. Some of them were from her friends back at school, others were from family, friends from high school. But the most shocking one was one from her father, she chewed on her lip as she dreaded opening it. She hadn't spoke to her father since he told her she was better off living with her mother, if she was going to take a year off school it was best she was reunited with her mother. Opening the e-mail she started to read it, her eyes went wide when she read the part about her father getting married. She was still trying to figure out why her parents had split up to begin with, she'd always been a good kid striving to be the best at everything. Closing out of the window she closed her computer, sat on the edge of her bed turning down her music. All of a sudden she felt like her whole world was falling apart she'd looked up to her parents, had wanted what they had until the divorce now she was living with Mr. Perfect while her mother was off at some spa enjoying rest and relaxation. Now she'd just found out that her father was getting remarried, it felt like her heart had been ripped out of her chest cause she knew something else was bound to either go wrong or happen to change her entire life.

Randy watched the news programs all the way through. He found nothing of substance on most of the news channels, but watched to keep up with current events that most people conversated about. He had a few drinks throughout and as the late night programming began he decided it was time to cal it an evening.

After travelling the stairs he gave a knock on Brandie's door, "I'm headed off to sleep. If you need anything, feel free to wake me." He noticed her radio had been turned down, something she had kept blaring since she started staying there and he thought it was odd, unless she was sleeping in which case he now felt kinda bad. He hoped he hadn't woke her. He paused for just a second and began to head towards his room down the hall.

Brandie had in fact fallen asleep, she didn't even hear him knock on her door she just rolled over then went right back to sleep. She'd heard him say if she needed anything it would okay to wake him but she didn't really have any plans to do so. The young blond had cried herself to sleep, was hugging a stuffed animal she'd had since she was a little girl. She really had no desire to wake up until morning, when she did wake up she would do whatever it took to avoid her step father hoping her mother would return soon. Then again her life was already complicated, she was pretty sure it couldn't get anymore complicated then it already was considering she believed it was all her fault. But she had done everything to make her parents proud of her, no matter how many times they told her it wasn't their fault she never believed them so she was just waiting for things to change more then they already had.

Randy always awoke to put a pot of coffee on. It was the first thing to be done in the morning. He decided against waking Brandie for breakfast, deciding she would get up whenever she felt like it and must be able to make eggs. He and her mother, Karen, weren't the cereal types. They hadn't had kids with them and breakfast was usually some time together before a hectic day.

He sat at the dining room table with his phone going through e-mails, sitting in front of his coffee, relaxing.

Brandie was always a late sleeper, since she didn't have any classes or anything special planned she was going to sleep until noon. She didn't feel like breakfast, most certainly wanted to avoid her step father who's name she never left her lips. Being able to smell the coffee only made her want to wake up early but she decided against it, continued to sleep knowing the coffee would still be there when she woke up. Her phone was always on but ever since she'd moved in with her mom, her stepfather nobody had called her or texted her. She didn't have a boyfriend, even if she did have one she refused to introduce him to her mother let alone her step father.

Randy's lips brushed together and let out a stuttered breath as he closed the e-mail. He moved up the stairs and knocked at Brandie's doors before opening it slowly. "Brandie?" He waited for her to stir before he continued. "Your mother would really like you to give her a wake up call this morning, she left me a message last night." He gave her a pained smile, not wanting to have invaded her privacy by stepping in her room like this, but wanting to keep his wife happy. He stood in the doorway shirtless with only shorts and slippers on.

Brandie groaned, lifted her eye mask as she sat up in her bed. She pulled back the covers slid her feet over the edge then set them down on the floor, slid them into her slippers as she picked up her robe then tied it around her waist. '' What for? If she wants you to spend quality time with me she can think again..'' The blond girl said as she opened the door, crossed her arms as she tried to ignore the fact that he was shirtless. She had to admit her mom had good taste, she hadn't really paid much attention the day before when she was laying by the pool. Of course she didn't believe that her mother would leave a message, tell him to wake her up early unless her mother wanted them to do something together as stepfather and daughter which she was not thrilled with.

He shrugged slightly. "She is sleeping in a hotel in..." He thought for a moment recalling her business trip itinerary. "....Toronto. And she left me a message last night saying she'd like a call from you." The truth was he was unsure what it was regarding and hadn't even thought through the fact that she'd want them to spend time. He found himself growing very interested in her as he watched her in her bedroom wear and decided he'd get himself out of there before she noticed his eyes had been roaming, or god forbid he popped an erection in his shorts. He gave her a half hearted smile, calling over his shoulder "Don't upset her. I'm the one who hears about it." He headed for his room to get dressed for the day.

Brandie rolled her eyes, closed the door again. She got herself dressed, gave her mother a call. Most of the conversation was arguing, when she hung up she felt even worse then she had when she fell asleep. She walked out if her room, walked downstairs to get some juice she wasn't hungry so she refused to eat. Her emotions were messing with her head, her stomach making her feel like if she ate while she was upset it would make her sick. She just wanted a normal family, not one do dysfunctional it made her head spin.

Randy didn't answer when he got a call from Victoria, Brandie's mother, instead he set the phone on silent. It had come so quickly after he spoke to Brandie he was sure it couldn't have been good news. He sat back in front of the television and after a while Brandie came roaming down and he heard her sifting through the refrigerator.

He thought for just a moment about approaching her, but she had made it very clear just how unapproachable she wanted to be with him. And that was fine. He remembered being young, he didn't have quite the same attitude that she did, but knew plenty of kids who did.

He decided instead to continue relaxing in front of the news, he took great pleasure in the leather sofa, it was so damn comfortable. He wouldn't ever sit in front of the television without one.
