Miri Had been working at this little retro game store for about a year now. She was used to the kind of stares and awkwardness she got from the customers, but nothing had prepared her for today. Before now, she had been asked out, called pretty, and been asked to marry by about half of the regular customers and she always played it off like they were joking, even if they weren’t. They usually went along with it in order to forgo the embarrassment of being turned down. The only exception was one drunk guy who, one evening, started cussing her out for not giving him her number.

Today, Miri wore an old Super Mario shirt that was obviously a guy’s shirt that she had ripped up and sewn back together to make it fit better. She like it better like this anyways. She also wore a pair of dark blue jeans that hugged her nice rear just right, even if the shirt did cover most of it. Now Miri was a very pretty girl. At least that was what she was told by most of her customers; though she didn’t always believe them. She knew she wasn’t bad looking, but she never really thought of herself as pretty. Up through high school she had always been one of the weird kids that usually ended up being loners. She wasn’t like that now though; she had plenty of friends who she hung out with on a regular basis. In fact she was talking to one of them right now.

Her Best friend Trixy was currently standing across the counter from Miri, talking up a storm. Miri just nodded and listened, hardly getting a word in edgewise. Trixy was going on about her boyfriend and asking Miri why she hadn’t gotten one in such a long time. To which Miri just replied with a shrug and Trixy went off on something else. Before too long, her friend got a text and left, off to see said boyfriend while Miri started pricing some games someone had traded in. She sighed, looking around the empty store. There were some tables set up in the middle of the store so people could open and play the Magic the Gathering cards the store sold and some old school arcade games set up in the corner. Most people couldn’t stand it, but Miri had come to enjoy the loud “MARVEL VERSUS CAPCOMMMM!!!” that rang out every five minutes from one of the machines.

She put everything away when a few customers came in and started browsing. “Hello, Welcome to Games 4 U! If you need any help with anything, just yell.” She said with a smile. A few of them just walked right to the 360 games and started looking while the last guy just awkwardly started looking at the NES games. He kept glancing over at Miri, then at the other people, obviously waiting for them to leave. Once they did, he made his way over to the counter, looking at the games in the case while trying to make conversation. Miri was never a big talker, so the less she talked, the more the other guy talked. Eventually he was telling her all sorts of personal information about his previous relationships and such. Eventually it happened. He looked her dead in the eyes and asked her to dinner. Miri did what she always did and laughed a bit, pointing to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich she brought from home. “I brought my own. Thanks though.” She said politely. But the guy insisted she go out with him.”Well what about a movie? The new Star Trek movie just came out, we could go see that.” He said, reaching for her hand. Miri was so flustered she didn’t notice until he had her hand in his clammy grasp and he didn’t seem to want to let go. “I’ve already seen it. It was no good.” She said, frowning a bit as she tried to take her hand back, but he wouldn’t let go, he just pulled her a little closer and tightened his grip. “Come on, Babe, you gotta go out with me.” He said, leaning in a bit and grabbing her other arm. “No, I don’t.” Miri insisted. “Now please let go, you’re hurting me.” She said wincing a bit. “You don’t know what pain is yet.” He said, suddenly grabbing her tussled blonde locks. It didn’t look like she was going anywhere. “Please! Stop!” Miri’s voice sounded desperate. And she was. She was praying someone would walk through that door and save her before this got anymore out of hand. Speaking of hands, her delicate one was being pushed to her assailant’s crotch as his breathing picked up. “Scream or hurt me and you’ll wish you were dead.” He said in a hushed tone. She just shut her eyes tightly, hoping she would wake up from this nightmare.

Jake walked into the store, looking for an old SNK Vs. Capcom machine, when he saw a worker getting harrassed, and hurt, by a customer. She looked kind of like.... His ice blue eyes widened and he exhaled angrily at the man. He walked forward, his black leather jacket bouncing with every step. He brushed a hand past his flame red, mid neck length hair and cleared his throat. "Hey, Jackass. Leave her alone." He swiftly wrenched the man away from her. "What'd you call me, punk?" The man challenged in an outrage. "You heard me, Jackass." The man tried to punch Jake, but was rewarded with a knee to the gut. The man collapsed in a heap. "Get your sorry ass out of here." Jake said with disgust. The man picked himself up and ran off out of the store.

"Miri. Do you recognize me? Out of touch for three years, and you STILL get into trouble." Jake teased, flashing a disarming smile to his long lost friend.

Miri jumped back as the her assailant was pulled off of her. She just watched in shock as this guy came in and beat up the guy who was trying to feel her up. When the guy crawled out of store and she finally looked up at her hero. Her eyes widened as she realized it was Jake. "Jake!" She said, a smile stretching across her face. She jumped over the counter and hugged him. "It's been so long!" She said, squeezing him. She had definitely filled out into a good looking woman since the last time he saw her.

Jake smiled as he caught her. "Whoa. Good to see you too!" He said happily, before blushing at the feeling of her chest pressed against him.

"Thank you so much for saving me!" She added, finally letting him go. "You have to let me make it up to you." She said smiling at him. Miri remembered how close they used to be before she moved. They always had so much fun together.

Jake finally composed himself. "Well what did you have in mind?" He asked, smiling. Man, she was gorgeous now. "Oh, and I'm looking for an SNK Vs. Capcom machine. You guys have one?" He asked.

She smiled as he asked wat she had in mind. "Well, I was thinking of making you dinner." She said with a smile. She thought for a moment when he asked if tjey had the machine he was looking for. "Actually, we do." She said, taking his hand and taking him into the back room. There it stood' in beautiful condition. "We don't have any room on the floor for it so we were going to put it up online." She said, patting the side of the machine.

Jake grinned. "Yes! So how much?" He asked, bringing out his wallet. "And that's a yes to the dinner thing, too." He said cheerfully.

"100" she said in response to the price. She grinned when he said yes to dinner as we'll. "Awesome." She said, smiling at him. "What would you like to eat for dinner?" She asked, thinking about what she had in her fridge.

Jake grinned and handed her a 100 dollar bill. "How about pasta? I haven't had good Italian in a while." He said excitedly.

Miri smirked when he handed her the bill and printed him up a receipt. "So, how are you going to get this out of here?" She asked, raising an eyebrow at him. "We have a dolly, but I don't think it'd fit in a car.

"I'll rent a truck." Was his curt reply. He took the receipt and grinned. "Just hold onto it for me until I do. Also, I'd like to preorder Project X Zone for the 3DS." He informed, pulling a five out of his wallet for the preorder.

She smiled and nodded. "Yes Sir. Wil do." She nodded as he said he wanted to preorder a game. "Of course!" She took the five and printed him up another reciept. She smiled. "Alright. So, here's my address, meet me there at say 7 and I'll cook you the most delicious meal you've ever eaten." She said with a grin. That would give her enough time to change out of her uniform and get dinner started.

Jake nodded and slipped the receipts into his wallet. "See ya then." He walked out of the store grinning. "Who'da thought this would happen?

Miri got off at 630 and went home. She chnged into a pair of shorts and a tank top. It was summer after all. She hummed to herself as she started cooking the pasta. She made a simple but delicious pasta dish with chicken and garlic bread and by the time 7 rolled around it was almost done. Miri picked up her cat, a fat, fluffy polydactyl named Hermes, and she danced around the kitchen with him. She was excited about catching up with her old friend.

Jake soon arrived at Miri's place. He knocked a couple times, before smiling. "Y'know, it's rude to keep people waiting, Miri." He teased, waiting for her to open the door.

Miri opened the door, cat in her arms. "Hey! Took you long enough." She said, laughing a bit. "Just make yourself at home. Can I get you something to drink?" She asked, setting the cat down once the door was closed. Hermes liked to try to escape if the door was open.

"Diet Coke is fine." Jake smiled and stroked Hermes. "Who's this adorable critter?" He asked, smiling. He sat down and whipped out his 3DS to check the Nintendo eShop.

"That would be Hermes." She said as she poured him his drink. She smiled as she saw he had a 3DS. She gave him his drink "Do you have Animal Crossing?" She asked, reaching in her bag and pulling out her 3DS.

Jake shook his head. "Not yet, but I plan to. I'm playing Fire Emblem: Awakening right now." He said smiling.

Miri smiled and nodded "Excellent game." She said. Working in a game store definitely had its perks. Miri had played a lot of games, including fire emblem. And with that thought, the timer dinged. "Alrighty! Dinner is served!" She said with smile, as she jumped up from the couch.

She smiled as he darted to the table. She followed and served him a plate. "Here you go. Hope you like it." She said, smiling at him as she made herself a plate.

Miri smiled as he ate. "Thank you!" She said. She ate her own food, pausing to talk to him. "So, what have you been up to? I havn't talked to you in so long!" She said, smiling at him.
