This may be a stupid question... but what does it mean for a thread to be a hot thread, versus a normal thread? And what causes a thread to become a hot thread???

No questions are stupid. 
A hot thread is any thread that has received 10 or more replies to it. A normal thread has less than 10 replies. That's it. XD

Hehe... sure, no problem.
And trust me. I know how it can be sometimes when you see stuff like that and it's like... I MUST KNOW THIS, NOW!!! lol. Then when you find out suddenly all the hype you've built up in your head is gently let down in one big crash. haha. So yeah, it's nothing glamorous. But at least your curiosity has been sated.
