Without any type of warning, a blaring sound went off in the small two-bedroom space. There was a figure laying underneath a blanket, groaning softly until that alarm sounded, making the figure jolted up with a gasp. A hand smacked the clock, shutting it off as his eyes parted slightly. "Argh . . ." he moaned, rubbing his eyes as his semi-long black hair fell in front of his calm dark-blue eyes. "Too early . . . need to set it for thirty minutes more."

But he decided to get out of bed, stretching languorously in his boxers. Lean, toned muscles, formed from soccer rippled and clenched as he yawned, moving his bangs out of the way. He bent down, taking his glasses, which were oval and frameless, blinking as his vision cleared. He looked over at the other bed, which was still empty. "Hmph . . . can't believe I got a room all to myself," he muttered, going to his dresser for his clothes.

Soon enough, he grabbed his uniform - tan slacks and a white dress shirt -, along with a heavy, dark-green jacket for the cold. Before putting it on, however, he went to the public showers to get cleaned, greeting a few friends who were on their way out.

Afterwards, he got dressed, brushing his hair as he walked out of the door and towards his first class, English. But, on the way, one of the school officials stopped him. "Mister Hadleigh, can you come with me?" the official asked, leading a wary student to the main office, where he saw the principal.

"Ah, Daniel! Glad to see you made it!" the principal, Mr. Reddings, exclaimed, shaking the young man's hand. "I have something to update you on. You'll be meeting your new roommate soon!"

A shocked, unamused expression crossed Daniel's face. " . . . What?" he said blankly, sighing heavily as he looked around for this so-called new student.

It was early and the sky was clear of clouds, the sun beamed down with comforting rays of warmth and light and the birds chirped relentlessly; everything was good. It had been a while since she'd felt this good about something, though usually it wasn't accompanied by terrible anxiety. She could do this, all she had to do was be one of the guys, keep quiet and focus on her studies. The whole reason she was doing this was because of her studies! She'd even cut off her beautiful hair in order to fit in at this new school. After her family had moved closer to the school, she had reassured them that she would sort out her own placement, that they didn't have to worry. It was a shock that she decided she wanted to go to boarding school, but ultimately they were proud that she was sticking with her studies, even if that resulted in her being miles away from them. They still had her younger sister at home and that made the decision to transfer into this school so much easier.

Jamie stared out the window of the cab quietly as they pulled up outside the large boarding school shrouded in glorious sunshine. Funny thing about this school? It was an all boy school. Jamie thanked the driver and the two of them removed themselves from the vehicle. The older, tanned man helped her remove her small suitcase from the boot along with her plain black duffle bag. She thanked him again, adjusting the plain messenger bag draped over her shoulder before loading herself with her luggage. The girl turned towards the building and sucked in a deep breath as if dragging courage from the air. She could do this.

Once through the polished double doors, the receptionist directed her to the principal’s office. The girl didn't expect to see another student inside and quickly apologized as she entered.

"I'm sorry, I was told to enter. I didn't realize you were in the middle of something, Sir."

The brunette was about to retrace her steps back out of the room when the man she assumed to be the Principle headed towards her with a jolly laugh and cheerful grin

"No, no. I was simply waiting for you to arrive!"

Jamie paused in front of the entrance and frowned at him, feeling slightly more confident that they hadn't pointed out her gender straight away. She was dressed in the school's strict uniform; a pair of tan trousers, a white dress shirt and a tan blazer decorated with the schools logo on the left chest pocket. With the help of many bandages, her chest looked as flat as an ironing board and she seemed to pass off as a male. Maybe her soft features would be more obvious, or her soft hands? Maybe even her voice? She wore a simple scarf around her neck, hiding the fact she was missing an Adams apple, though she hoped it wouldn't be too incredibly obvious when she removed the item.

"Mr. Hadleigh! This is your new roommate. Please help him in any way you can." The man turned to the other student in the room as he spoke and then turned back to Jamie to continue. "Mr. Hadleigh will show you to your room and then take you to first period. If you have any other troubles, please come see me or another member of the faculty. You may both be excused now. Thank you for coming."

Jamie gave a sharp nod, not offering him the slightest smile for fear her femininity would shine through it. "Thank you, Sir."

Daniel scowled heavily at the principal, though the man seemed to ignore it as he waited patiently for the arrival. Minutes passed by as the young man's impatience grew more, making him sigh in irritation as he looked at the time on his phone. He growled. "Principal Reddings, it's 7:35; I have to get to cla-" his train of thought was interrupted when the doors open, his attention averting to the young man before him.

With recently cut, scruffy dark brown or black hair that curled slightly at the ends, and soft brown eyes and even softer features, Daniel blinked in confusion. If he didn't know any better - and he did -, he would say that this new kid was . . . cute. Adorable. The young man quirked an eyebrow at the boy's fashion sense, gazing at the red scarf curiously before the principal just gave him an academic death sentence, at least for the day. His eyes widened.

"Sir, I really need to get to class-!" he exclaimed, only to be waved off by Reddings.

"Nonsense!" the man laughed cheerfully. "You are excused for the day. Make your new roomie feel at home!"

And with that, the principal left them, a shocked, outrage look upon Daniel's face. He was absolutely stunned. "But . . . argh, dammit," he murmured, glancing at the boy. "Well, whatcha waiting for? Let's go."

The young man turned away and towards the exit, not bothering to help him with the bags, but actually managed to hold the door open for him. "Ladies first," he joked, attempting to lighten up his mood, but his tone came out deadpan and much too serious. "Er, turn left, and all the down to the second building on the right."

He followed the boy down, sighing softly as he spoke up again. "What's your name, then? You already know mine; Hadleigh, Daniel Hadleigh," he introduced himself begrudgingly as he held the door open for the boy yet again. "Turn right, fourth door on the left." Once they got there, Daniel used his ID to open the lock, walking inside as he sat on his bed, looking at the new student curiously.

Jamie looked the other student up and down briefly before her light brown eyes turned back to the Principle. She blinked as the man gave the taller male a day off and she assumed her day would also be free. A frown returned to her face at the thought of nothing to do; she just wanted to get into her studies. Her head turned slowly, following Mr. Reddings as he stepped past her, exiting the office. Once it was only the two students in the room, Jamie turned back to look at the other with a blank expression, expecting him to lead the way.

As the other student stepped past her, she turned on her heels and adjusted her bags before following quietly, pulling her suitcase behind her. The wheels dragging along the floor was the only sound for a long while. When the door was held open for her and the joking comment was made, she simply frowned at him. It was obvious, when she walked past him and followed his direction, just how much shorter she was in comparison. Jamie felt a little self-conscious walking ahead of the other, but she kept her composure, occasionally glancing back over her shoulder to make sure he was still following her.

When her name was asked, she parted her lips to speak. "Jamie. Jamie Galloway." That was all she said as they approached the door that she assumed to be her new room. Her suspicions were confirmed when Daniel stopped and used his ID card to unlock the door. She paused as he stepped inside, holding the door open for her. The brunette waited for a second before stepping inside and glancing around the small room. She wandered over towards the empty bed and placed her bags down on top of it with a sigh. She was going to have to get changed now that she'd been excused from classes for the day. "Is that the bathroom?" She questioned, gesturing over towards a door beside the kitchen. If it was, she was curious if there was going to be a shower in there or if they had public bathrooms. The thought made her anxious.

"Jamie? Huh," muttered Daniel. This guy is getting more girly by the minute, he thought. Then again, Jamie was also a guy's name, in rare cases. Though he didn't know why. As he sat down, he looked at Jamie quizzically. "Er, yeah; toilet and a sink, but the showers are public . . ." he said, rubbing his eyes and laying back on his bed. "G'head and get your things all sorted out. I'm gonna try to take a few winks of sleep."

His eyelids drooped heavily as he yawned, stretching out before he closed his eyes and quickly began to snooze, breathing lightly as his glasses became askew on his face, chest rising and falling gently for the time being.

Jamie’s features creased as she let the familiar frown take its place. She gave a small nod as he confirmed her fears and then parted her lips. ”Great. Thanks.” The brunette turned, her dark brown wisps of hair light and glossy as she span. Her delicate hands began fishing through her duffle bag carefully, not opening it too much in case the male’s eyes were to see her belongings. Jamie lifted her large eyes when the other spoke once again, now staring at him as he collapsed back onto his bed to take a nap. Perfect timing.

She waited a moment, completely still and silent, her eyes watching his every movement. She observed as his breathing slowed, his chest rising and falling gently, his sleeping features…handsome. The thought made her cheeks flush a little and she immediately shook her head; she needed to change out of her uniform. Pulling out a baggy, black sports jersey decorated with the teams name and number in white and a pair of baggy jeans, she threw them onto the bed quietly and stood with haste. Tugging off the blazer, she discarded it before unbuttoning her shirt, all the while her eyes trained on her roommate in panic. She pulled off her tanned trousers after slipping her shoes off and then began redressing herself. Jamie brushed her shoes aside as she finished buttoning her jeans. Sitting on the side of the bed, her back now to Daniel, the girl let out a small sigh and she removed her socks.

Jamie didn’t bother unpacking, she simply left her suitcase beside her bedside cabinet along with her duffle bag. She placed her uniform on top of her suitcase and only tugged out the books from her messenger bag. Her studies were her first priority at this point, and if her roomie wasn’t going to guide her around, then she would start with something she knew. Jamie sat cross legged on her bed, a book in front of her and a pencil in her hand as she started on a mathematics course book she’d picked up to keep her busy in her spare time at school. Once Jamie had gotten into something, she was completely engrossed and barely noticed her surroundings at all.

Daniel continued to sleep for quite some time, though he meant to wake up far earlier than he had. When he opened his eyes, his vision was blurry and out of focus, making him groan from the pain of not seeing clearly. It came with the territory of wearing glasses for most of his life. Closing his eyes, he rolled over and blindly searched for his glasses, which were laying on the floor by the bed. Grasping them, he slid them back on and sat up, groaning again as he stretched out. "Damn . . ." he yawned, blinking slowly as he noticed Jamie on the other bed, and grimaced.

Dammit, thought it was a dream, he thought bitterly. Crossing his legs, he looked at his roommate calmly. "How long have I been out?" he asked, wiping his mouth of any drool that left his lips as he slept.
