The blonde sucked in a deep breath, releasing it nervously. Her heart beat a rapid pace in her chest, and Winola could hear its thrumming in her ears. She sat alone in the darkness, where little aside from the faint glow of candles illuminated the room. Furniture had been pushed up against the walls and the floor had been cleared of any obstructions, leaving her with ample room for the ceremony. The air was thick with the scent of incense, white smoke wafting in swirls and patters around the room.
The woman sat in the center of the room, resting cross-legged in the middle of a circle drawn out in flour. Around it a secondary, larger circle formed, with archaic patterns and sigils resting inbetween the two lines. Four candles lay stung out around her, representing the four worldly directions. Their flames flickered from an invisible wind.
The brown eyed woman once more took a deep breath, closing her eyes upon exhale. "Please let this work." She whispered in the darkness. "I don't know what else to do if this fails." Winola opened her eyes once more, and where once anxiety rested was instead replaced by a gaze of steel. Recalling the mantra she'd spent hours upon days remembering, the woman began her chant.
