There are a number of things you don't want to have happen in an Egyptian tomb. One of them is having your flashlight die. Ryan White was in that exact predicament though. The maglight had been running low on batteries but they were rather expensive out here so Ryan was using them until they ran out. He was hoping he'd be back on the surface before they did though. No big deal. He had a glowstick to work with while he changed the batteries. He reached into his coat pocket and grabbed it, tearing open the package... and inadvertently sending the glowstick dropping to the ground.
He bent down to pick it up, sliding his hands across the floor. His fingers brushed against a small indentation, just large enough for him to slide his hand into it. He could feel only empty space below and he knew already what had happened. The glow stick had fallen through the slit and into... well, whatever was down there. Without really thinking he tugged at the crack and to his surprise the floor shifted, or at least a section about two square feet wide that he'd assumed was a solid brick. Rather than messing with what he could only assume was a secret passage and risk tumbling to his death in the dark the young research student reached for his pack. The process of getting the batteries out and putting them into the flashlight was rather arduous given the total darkness of the tomb but there was exactly zero chance he'd call one of the other students down here and risk his chance to be the first one to find out what was in that passage.
Eventually the light clicked back on and blinded him briefly. When his eyes readjusted to the darkness he lifted the stone out of the way and peered down into the tunnel. There was a ladder already waiting for him and after testing his weight on it he quickly descended it into the chamber below.
Ryan's footsteps echoed in the chamber, threatening to wake its inhabitants. As far as sights to wake up to went you could do far worse than Ryan White. Admittedly, he might have been a bit more cute than handsome. Even though he was in his early twenties he could pass for 17 or 18 and his features were rather feminine. His eyes and hair were both a similar shade of dark brown and his skin had developed a bit of a tan from the Egyptian sun. He was wearing baggy cargo pants that had plenty of pockets for all manner of gear as well as a brown leather jacket to guard against the cold tomb.
