Overview
The Soul Society, a place for souls that have left the physical plane of life and home to the Shinigami. The Soul Society is a peaceful place and also the location of the Soul Society's "Academy" a place created by Head Captain Yamamoto, to train any souls that have any amount of Spiritual Pressure; training them so that they too may join one of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads.
Shinigami, Souls who possess spiritual pressure, have passed the Soul Academy and wield a Zanpaktou. Shinigami are the only defense against hollows, they reside in the Soul Society but often times are sent to the world of the living to hunt and destroy Hollows. They protect lingering and lost souls who can not pass to the Soul Society on their own.
Zanpaktou, a sword that each full fledged Shinigami gains, each Zanpaktou has a name and grows in strength alongside the Shinigami. Zanpaktou are all unique, like each and every soul that wields them, they are the power that purify the hollow and with the Soul Reaper, maintain the balance of the world.
Hollow, a soul that has become corrupt and lost it's human heart. They feed on Shinigami and other lost souls that wander the world. They prey on the defenseless and will attack the living. They target any and all with even the slightest bit of spiritual pressure. Their hunger knows no bounds and they constantly feed to fill the void that their heart left behind. At times their hunger is so great they will even begin to feed on other Hollows. The Hollows are ranked according to strength.
Demi-Hollows : Souls who are on the verge of becoming a hollow. They have not completely forsaken their human heart.
Hollow : A soul that has become Corrupt.
Menos : A Hollow with an insatiable hunger. They devour other hollows to evolve into a stronger form.
Gillian : Powerful giants, masses of countless cannibalistic Hollow identities gathered into one form, each with very little intelligence or individuality
Adjuchas : They are smaller than Gillians and far fewer in number. They are much smarter and stronger than Gillians, and are often the ones who lead Gillians into battle.
Vasto Lorde : They are extremely small Hollows, roughly the same size as humans, and are extremely rare in number. It is said you can count their entire number within Hueco Mundo with only the fingers on your hands. The combat capabilities of a Vasto Lorde are above those of the captains of the Thirteen Court Guard Squad.
The Beginning
Far into the past, long past Aizen and his ambition, before the creation of the Thirteen Court Guard Squads, before central 46, back to when the "Soul Society" was nothing more than a plane of existence where the souls of the Dead ended up. At this point in time, it was nothing more than a feasting ground for Hollows. None really existed who were able to fend off the Hollows, so they fled in horror in the shadows of the horrific beasts. Over time, there were those who appeared that felt the same hungers that they had in life, those with spiritual pressure. As time went on those with spiritual pressure began to grow in number, more and more appeared. They banded together and began to harness the power of their souls, some were incredibly powerful while others were obviously not meant for battle and instead worked on training their powers in the art of healing.
Hope began to spread through the armies of souls, just maybe there was something that could be done to save them from the Hollows. However, as the strength of the souls increased so did the scent. The hollows began appearing more frequently into the plane, drawn by the strong souls. They hunted and ate the souls more ravenously than before and just as quick as the numbers had increased, so did they decrease. Once more despair filled the wandering souls; it seemed nothing could be done about the beasts.
However, the feeding frenzy had not killed all of those with spiritual powers. The ones who remained trained more vigorously, something driving them towards a goal that was unseen. The strength of their souls steadily increased while their numbers decreased little by little. Then the day came where the small group that had survived attained their goal. Each came into possession of a sword, a crude version of the modern day Zanpaktou. With each one came a unique name and at the call of the name a weapon was born with great strength and power and with that, the tide turned in favor of the souls. The souls who wielded these Zanpaktou struck back against the Hollows, they struck and they struck back hard.
The Hollows, unsure of what to do withdrew from the souls realm and back into Hueco Mundo. The warriors began to help train and protect others who had any amount of spiritual pressure, the numbers once again grew. Even with the ability to fight back many still died but the group that had started it all remained. Before long they were given the name Death Gods or, Shinigami. This is the start of the Shinigami, the Soul Society and The Thirteen Court Guard Squads. This is Squad Zero.
A small group of souls sat around a fire while the world around them remained dark. A small wind whistled through the dark world and many souls slept in the stifling darkness, fear of hollow attacks still keeping many from sleeping by a fire. The group who dared light a flame were a group of warriors, the first to achieve their Zanpaktou. They welcomed the fight, the challenge; they sought the hollows out. To eliminate them completely, so the fire was a beacon to any monsters who might be lurking out there; we are here.
The garb of the beings were odd and there seemed to be no distinct dress code. Could say their "look" was as unique as the weapons they wielded.
"Should we really press our luck with this?" Erzsebet said glancing at the bright flame dancing at the center of the circle. Erzsebet, though she was of the first to achieve her Zanpaktou with the rest of them, she was not as keen on battle. Although she had enough "spirit pressure" to be an excellent fighter she'd opted to channel her spirit energy into healing and defensive attacks. She frowned and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. It hadn't been that long since their last battle had ended, it hadn't been an overly difficult fight but she didn't want to attract too much unwanted attention. She knew that the flame was more than a beacon to let the Hollows know where they were, it was also a way to keep innocent souls safe. A hollow would surely come straight to the flame where there was a small group rather than hunt in the dark for one or two souls. With a small sigh she glanced at her weapon, Kyohime. It was a simple Cross bladed Chakram, not overly flashy or fancy and not exactly a weapon born for the bloodshed of battle. It mostly served as a defensive weapon though it could easily be an offensive weapon. She picked the weapon up and placed it on her lap.
"You worry too much Erzsebet." Yuki chimed in lyrically. Yuki was an agile fighter, her movements on the battlefield were reminiscent of a complicated and hauntingly beautiful dance. Her movements were precise and seemingly fluid, going from one move to another without any pause or hesitation. Her weapon took the form of two large fans, the edges serrated in hundreds of tiny and wicked little blades. Yuki herself was more or less fairly happy, usually the one with a smile on her face or the one to take a tense situation and make it more lighthearted. She was also the "youngest" in the group and most of them treated her like a little sister. Turning her head slightly she looked at Valencia "What do you think Val?" she said with a little smile.
Valencia titled her head slightly "Her concerns are well founded, it is the Hollows that we battle and not all of them are weak, such as the ones we have been fighting as of late." She said with a glance at her own weapon. Valencia touched the chain of her weapon gingerly. " It's been bothering me lately....the number of hollow attacks have increased...but they are all low level hollows..." she said trailing off. Looking up she studied each of the seven faces around her, they had spent what felt like eons together. Training, hiding, fearing...until the day they had finally achieved their goal and had begun to fight back. She wasn't exactly sure how long it had been since that day but she knew it had been several years at the least. Countless battles had been fought against the hollows and a great many warriors had been lost. Every group had mourned the loss of a warrior...every group except for theirs. As of yet they were the only ones to have emerged from every battle victorious. She had to wonder....how much longer would their streak last?
Asiya, one of the "leaders" of their group glanced at Valencia and knew where her thoughts were. She'd often wondered the same thing many times before. "It won't do to be thinking like that Valencia." she said touching the hilt of her own blade. "I know...." she said with a glance at the ground. Yuki raised her brow and looked from one woman to another but decided not to say anything. At times, she figured it was just best not to ask. "Though...you make a good point..." she said with a troubled frown. "The Hollows have always had an insatiable hunger...but now it seems...." she started to say but trailed off shaking her head. She didn't know how to word it right but she didn't want to just blurt something out and worry everyone. "Like....they are wearing us down?" Erzsebet finished for her. Asiya was silent for a moment but slowly nodded her head. "I'd been thinking this for awhile...." she said glancing at the endless sky above them.
Everyone was silent for a moment before Asiya spoke up once more "What do you guy's think?" she said glancing at the men. Yuki pursed her lips, if it kept up like this she didn't think even she'd be able to lighten the mood.
