Name: Daniel Zidane
Nickname: Dan
Height: 6'1"
Age: 21
Looks: (click here)
Personality: Sweet, over-protective when it comes to his younger sister, has a tendency to be quite rebellious once in a while, witty and funny
Background: Daniel never got to know his biological parents. "Daniel" was a name given to him by the couple of who adopted him -- Mary Ann and Christoph Zidane -- who are known nationwide for being successful entrepreneurs. For four years, Dan had been the only child of Mary Ann and Christoph until, finally, they were able to have a beautiful daughter of their own flesh and blood. Dan treated this girl like the princess she was. On the other hand, he grew up as a total "good boy" but he, as every other normal teenager there is, also had his rebellious times.

----------------

"Mom? Yes... yes, we're doing fine here... How are you guys? .... Yes mom, she's okay. She's not yet home, though.... (laugh) don't worry mom, I won't poison her with my cooking, but I can't guarantee a good stomach after.... (laugh) yes mom, we'll order food if needed be. I love you too. See you in a few weeks, okay? Bye."

Dan ended the call with a sigh. Once again, they were left alone in their enormous house -- a house which isn't big enough to be called a mansion but it was, nevertheless, not a typical house. Inside, they have a spacious garden with three coffee tables and a pool ranging from 5 feet to 10 feet deep. Dan loves his deep waters while his sister would rather stay in a depth that her feet can touch while keeping her head dry.

With his iPhone still on his hand, Dan sat down on the couch and idly watched what was on TV. Ah, just the local news. Not much of an interest to him.

Sighing softly, his hands lingered on the screen of his mobile phone to type out some words. It had been a thing for them both to send text messages at random times of the day.

"Hey. When are you coming home? It's frckn lonely in this house you know. Don't trade me off with some man, you hear me? :("

Name: Ava Zidane
Nickname: Ava
Height: 5'4"
Age: 18
Looks: Ava, adored.
Personality: Quite the shy type, timid around people she doesn't know, always quite merciful and lovely to be with it.
Background: The beloved daughter of Mary Ann and Christoph and little sister to Daniel, Ava was fawned over by both her parents and her brother. Though she was spoilt, she knows the value of hard work and even works part time at a cafe, in order to not be a burden on her parents. She's quiet and cute, sometimes too adorable to bear.

----------------

Ava was already on her way home, shuffling her legs together as she waited for the lights to change. Feeling her phone vibrate in her pocket, she blinked before taking it out and smiling. It was her brother, Daniel. She giggled at his message before quickly writing a reply to him as the lights changed.

"Yes Dan~ I'm on my way home now~ I'll be there in five minutes, if I walk fast enough. I bought us some cake from the cafe!" She replied before turning the corner. Waiting at a couple more lights, Ava finally made her to the familiar neighborhood and up the drive that she had walked up so many times before.

With a swish of her long hair, she took her keys out and opened the door, removing her shoes at the entrance.

"Dan! I'm home!" She called out, smiling cutely.

Dan was about to type out his reply to Ava when, to his heart's content, he heard that lovely voice chirp from the main door. He smiled to himself. Ah, another day to not worry about his younger sister. Finally, she came home safe again.

"Ava!" Dan called out from the living room without moving from where he was. His eyes lured on the news without interest but his mind was lingering on his sister. How was she? How did her day go? Did she and her boyfriend finally patch things up? It's been a while since they had a good heart-to-heart talk about these things. It was funny, but Dan treated Ava more as his family than his very own non-biological parents.

"You better have something for me for making me wait this long!" Said the playful older brother.

Putting his house slippers on, Dan stood up and headed to the main door where the younger female had just entered. He raised up a brow down at her.

"You're late again", he said. Despite the serious big brother tone, Dan knew Ava knew that he was just fooling around. It was their way of showing affection to one another, however weird that is.

"Are you trading me off with that boyfriend of yours again?"

Ava smiled as she heard Dan's reply, putting her slippers on and taking the plastic bag she was holding and about to move to her kitchen before she saw him, waving at him despite the strict look on his face and in his tone. Giggling slightly, she showed the plastic bag to him. "I brought our special Tira Misu cake, just for you Dan~" She said in a sing song voice before moving to the kitchen, sure that Daniel following her.

At the mention of her boyfriend however, she faltered, tripping up slightly before managing to grab the kitchen counter. "U-uuu.. t-that was close..." She whimpered before looking at Dan and smiling weakly. "Y-You know I'd never do that... you're my brother... and... and besides, I broke up with him today. Dealing with his other girlfriends is hard..." She sighed, moving the cake into the fridge before sitting at the counter and wringing her small wrists slightly.

"O-or at least, I tried to break up with him... he came by the cafe and made a big scene... demanded I take him back... s-so I did...." Ava finished, biting her lip as she looked at Daniel.

At the sight of the plastic bag however, Dan couldn't stop himself from smiling. "Good, now you've officially gotten my good side. I hate you, Ava. You know my weakness for these lovely treats" he told her, adding a sweet tone to that, as he took hold of the plastic bag and went to follow his younger sister like her own shadow....... or stalker of some sort. His eyes were still on her when she tripped and, out of instinct, he nearly dropped the plastic bag to catch her but the younger one managed to gain her balance quite quickly, making him straighten himself up with a fake cough and a slight scratching of the head. What he heard next though, made him stare at her more seriously this time.

"You did??" He asked, his voice raising all of a sudden. It was very VERY rare for him to raise his voice like that but when he does so, it was always out of concern.... and perhaps anger, this time.

"Ava, how can you be so stupid?! You told me that asshole has what... three? Four? Five girlfriends at a time? And what are you, his sixth? Seventh? Millionth?" He went on an on, basically misplacing his anger for the guy to his poor younger sister and when he realized this, he stopped and sighed, grabbed her gently by the wrist and pulled her to him. Ava had always been so small and fragile.

"I'm sorry, Ava..." He whispered soothingly with his hand gently running on those perfectly smooth black locks. "I just... can't afford seeing you hurt so much and so often. For a while you always kept yourself locked up in your room and when I drop by to visit, I hear you crying." He said in defeat before pulling her gently away at arms' length to get a look at her.

At a sudden thought, Dan's expression hardened again and his hands gripped her shoulders a little too tight for comfort.

"Wait..." He uttered. "He hadn't touched you now, had he?"

Ava smiled sweetly at her brother, enjoying the way his face lit up before recoiling when he raised his voice. It was quite a sight, to see Daniel upset and thus she couldn't help but unconsciously back away from him, even though she knew she was aware that it was mainly misdirected anger. Pushing some of her hair back behind her ear, she looked at Daniel and smiled almost apologetically. "W-well h-he was making a scene at the cafe and I certainly didn't want to lose my job..." She said softly, tears bunching in her eyes before letting him pull her towards him, her body almost shaking out of fear.

"I-I know... I-I just... I just didn't want anyone at the cafe to get hurt by the scene he was making... a-and he seemed so sincere in his words..." Ava continued, biting her lip as if to hold back her tears. Wincing as Daniel's grip on her shoulders tightened, she looked at him pitifully.

"N-nothing too i-intimate... s-sometimes when I'm asleep at his place or when we're out, h-he gets really t-touchy feely..." She said slowly, as if saying it any quicker would startle her brother like a wild animal.

Dan didn't need to hear the rest of her sister's words. Just by those brief responses, Dan already made conclusions in his mind and these were conclusions he was sure to be realistic ones. First, Ava didn't love her boyfriend. Her priorities were keeping her job and keeping her colleagues safe. Second, the guy was a total asshole for touching his sister unconsciously. That's it, Dan was too tired to deal with such a jerk. This guy, Dan was sure about it, did not deserve Ava at all. Ava needed to be with someone else -- someone who can look out for her, someone who can treat her well, someone who can take care of her when all else fails. Ava needed to be with someone a lot like him.

Without a word, Dan reached down to the pocket of his sister's skirt and took out her mobile phone. He searched for the number of that jerk, called him up and walked away from Ava but made sure she could hear the both of them well.

"Hello, baby? My sweet girl, you called. Missed me?"

"Jake... is this you?"

"Hey, who the hell is this? Why are you with my girlfriend?"

"Oh, well she's here at the house now, cooking something for me."

"That slut!"

Dan clenched his fist more. "Oh? What did you call my girl?"

"Slut!! I knew it! They tell me she goes off to different houses and sleeps with almost every guy in campus! I knew it the moment I touched her----"

"Touched her what, Jake?"

"Oh you know us men... we try to get our hands on that"

Dan's blood was boiling and he didn't know how much of this bullshit he can still tolerate without calling up the police to get rid of this bastard.

"Anyway, do you know Dan? Daniel Zidane?" He asked. Dan graduated from the same high school Ava was in now and, being a legendary athlete and top-notcher, Dan was very popular even until after he graduated. Once in a while he'd give talks in their school and people would admire him from here and there. With the principal as their close family friend, the middle-aged woman never failed to remind the student body about how wonderful Dan was a student and that he should be a role model to all.

"Yea why?"

"Well, rumor has it that he hates you. And I'm sure you heard about the rumors about people Dan hates, right?"

"Fuck this, no way!! He doesn't know about me and Ava! Come on, man! I strictly instructed that stupid slut not to tell Dan about us!"

"Well, Ava's more closer to me than she is of you, you fucking asshole."

"Is this.... Daniel?"

"Be ready to report to the principal's office first thing on Monday morning, got it? Or fix your papers and go to another school. Bring your other sluts with you. Ava doesn't need you in her life. Go fuck yourself."

With that said, Dan ended the call and took a deep breath before handing the mobile phone back to his younger sister.

"He's not for you, Ava. I'm sorry."

Dan patted her on the shoulder, gave her a forced smile and headed to his room with mixed emotions and horrifying thoughts. What if Ava loved that guy despite everything? What if, despite only having the purest intentions of protecting her, Ava would end up hating him for all eternity? She's the only one he got... He can't afford to lose her.[/i]

"A-ah! D-Dan!" Ava cried out as Daniel suddenly took her phone off her. Though she wasn't completely helpless against her brother, she could only stand in quiet wonder as he suddenly took charge of the situation for her. She had been struggling with Jake for a while, often wondering what it would be like to be without his rather violent presence in her life. Ava was the type of girl that most people assumed would have no trouble finding a boyfriend, but due to her timid nature, she wasn't very open about talking to guys and expressing what she wanted.

So when Jake put the moves on her, Ava acquiesced without much of a fight. But when she had found out about his plenty girlfriends, as well as the way he tended to get fresh with her, the young girl had decided that she had enough - but was unsure how to go about expressing such a thing.

Watching her brother and the way he protected her brought unbidden tears to her eyes, feeling them fall but not doing anything to stop them, her bottom lip quivering ever so slightly.

"D-Daniel..." She said, taking back her phone as he patted her on the shoulder. Clutching her phone to her tightly, she fell to her knees in front of her brother, tearing. "T-thank you so much...!" She managed to whimper out, in between her sobs and her sniffles.

He just got his back turned and was already to walk away with so many unwanted thoughts of how Ava might come to hate him for all eternity but alas, he heard her thank him oh too sincerely. That voice, that tone, those cracks, he knew oh too well that, once again, Ava was in tears. Perhaps they were good tears this time?

Dan turned back to see his sister on the floor, clutching her phone with her hands while tears streamed down her face. Always and forever, Ava is the fragile one. This made him remember sceneries of their childhood when Ava got picked on too much and Dan would always be the hero of the day. Perhaps this whole protecting thing made them so close despite the fact that Dan was just adopted and Ava was the true biological child.

"You thank me yet you cry in front of me?" Dan teased as he knelt down on one knee in front of the girl.

"Hey, pretty lady, you still owe me for making me wait so long. Now that I'm the only man in your life, I suggest that you get up on your feet and give me some cake, understood?" He teased her once again while patting her head and helping her up. For a while he simply stood there and looked at the younger one. Despite being in a slightly messy way with her tears staining her face like that, Ava looked absolutely..... beautiful. People had been saying that for so long but it is only now that Dan got to see it for real.

Snapping out of his short trance, Dan shook his head slightly and wiped the tears away with his thumbs.

"Come on, Ava. You're my sister! As someone who grew up under my wing, you shouldn't easily cry, alright? You've got me behind you as always and forever!"

Ava tried to speak, tried to explain herself and the tears but found she was unable to because of the constant tears that would get in her way. Daniel, her beloved brother had always been her Knight in shining armor and this time was no different. Once again, he had come to her aid in her time of need, when she thought there was no other out for her. Looking at Daniel as he got to one knee in front of her, she could barely speak but shook her head, as if trying to tell him that she wasn't really crying, though her red eyes told a different story.

"O-oh... I-I'm sorry..." She drifted off, looking at Dan as he wiped her tears away with his thumb. Ava had always known that Daniel had such wonderfully strong hands, hands that were equally good at patting her head and telling her that everything was going to be alright while at the same time strong enough to punish anyone who was foolish enough to hurt her. "R-right... c-cake... I-I'll get on it..." Ava said shakily, getting to her feet after having wiped at her face several times to get rid of excess tears and shakily placing the cake onto the plates she had prepared earlier.

At this moment, she wanted nothing more than to please her brother - a man so eager to protect her, that Ava no longer wanted to leave his side. Looking at him as she got the dessert forks out, she looked at Daniel and smiled gently. "Maybe I should just marry you Dan~ you're the only one willing enough to take care of a girl like me~"

Dan took a seat as he watched Ava prepare the treats for the two of them, smiling as he eyed on her. How can such a lovely lady be abused so much? Well, maybe because that was it. She was lovely and, as lovely as she was, she was also naive and too carefree. Dan feared for future circumstances especially when he won't be there anymore to be by her side and protecting from anything and everything.

Sighing, he took a bite from the tiramisu when Ava, out of nowhere, uttered something he did not expect. Of course the idea was too absurd to think about but, hey, it was a possibility. Then again, Dan knew Ava was nothing more but his precious little princess that he needed to take care of, whether that is out of obligation or pure intention. Both, maybe.

"Silly girl", Dan told her, his eyes never leaving Ava. "You know that's not possible, right? I am your brother..." he said. Then again, quite honestly, it was an idea that slightly disappointed him -- that someday, Ava will be given away in the care of another man.

"But I pray your next man wouldn't be a lot like Jake. Not even close to Jake. Not even comparable to Jake."

As he continued eating his treat, Dan smiled at the sudden idea he had to at least make the mood lighter in the house. After all, the house was oh too gloomy on its own and after this incident, Dan didn't want to add up to that atmosphere.

"Hey, tell you what..." He said as he wiped his mouth with a piece of table napkin. "Why don't we take a night swimming tonight? It's been a while since we had that 'cause you're too busy texting your EX BOYFRIEND in your room." He teased, giving emphasis on how Jake was now an ex boyfriend. "Why don't you go and change now and I'll meet you at the pool? Let me just fix the kitchen. Thanks for the treat, sis." Unconsciously, he gave her a wink (for the first time), his signature wink which caused a lot of girls to fall head over heels for him.

Smiling as Dan enjoyed himself with the sweets, Ava tilted her head to the side as Dan spoke to her and she giggled. "I'm silly? Yes, I suppose I am~" she said gently, not noticing that his gaze never left her. Stretching lithely, she looked at Dan as he spoke again. Indeed, she did want the same thing. She was tired of the way Jake had treated her. It was something she would never wish on someone else, and silently wondered if his other girlfriends were treated the same - or maybe not, since they would put out more often. Ava knew that his other girlfriends were probably treated as sex slaves, due to his apparent "prowess" in the bedroom, but she herself wanted her first time to be special, and certainly not while said boyfriend was drunk out of his mind in a back alley.

Blinking as Dan spoke, Ava giggled, amused with his emphasis on 'ex boyfriend' before nodding her head. "Sure~ that sounds great!" She smiled before blushing adorably at his wink. She had seen that wink many times before and even more importantly, seen the effect it had on women. It made her heart skip a beat but knowing it was wrong, she bit her lip and excused herself from the kitchen.

Heading back to her room, she opened her closet and looked at her swimsuits. She had a big range, but it had been so long she wasn't sure which one to wear. Settling for a pink and white striped bikini that accented her large chest and her slim waist, she blushed cutely before tying her long hair up into twin tails. Moving back to the kitchen, she looked shyly at her brother. "I-is this okay?" She asked cutely, shuffling on the spot.

The plates and utensils were washed and tucked away now, the kitchen already sparkly clean. Yes, it was now time for a good swim. Dan turned supposedly to head up to his room when, to his surprise, a "too-bare" Ava stood in front of him telling him if it was okay. His cheeks' color rose up but he cleared out his throat to excuse himself.

"If you are with any other man, that is not okay, you hear me? Not. Okay." Dan told her with such emphasis and intensity on how the swimsuit would be so wrong in the prying eyes of adolescent teenagers (especially guys) who will probably have nothing in their minds but images of indecency when they see something like this.

"Hold on, Ava. Let me go get changed" He said as he almost ran to his room. That sight was almost too cute, adorable and... hot to bear.

Looking at Dan, Ava blinked. "O-oh? I-is this bad? S-should I go change?" She asked before he suddenly rushed off to his bedroom. Tilting her head to the side, the younger sister was unaware if she had actually done something wrong and untoward her brother, before deciding that he was just concerned with her best interests. Heading out towards their backyard, she sat on one of the nearby garden chairs and waited for her brother.

Twiddling with her thumbs slightly, her mind drifted to Jake and then Daniel, comparing the two in her mind. With a light sigh, she looked up at the sky. It was a clear night, full of stars and it reflected her state of mind - she was no longer worrying herself with Jake and instead, chose to only focus on what lay in front of her and indeed, at the moment, it was the night swim with her brother.

Dan got changed to his swimming trunks -- a decent-looking surf shorts but, not exactly too concerned about the prying eyes of other girls, he didn't bother putting on something to cover his torso. Being a bit of a fitness freak, he did have an awesome, attention-capturing torso.

Grabbing his towel, he let out a soft sigh as he walked towards the garden. "Calm down, Dan... calm down..." He murmured to himself. "She is still your sister... she is still under emotional trauma... calm down. There is nothing right about what you felt earlier. Nothing right. Calm down..."

These words went on and on like some stupid mantra in his head until he got to the spacious garden where he saw Ava sitting down. He took a deep breath, smiled and simply focused on her face. His eyes should not glance down. It would be too indecent.

He walked to her with a gentle smile but just as he was closing in, he tried to be the playful older brother he once was back then during their amazing childhood years.

"Last one to the pool is a fat donkey!" He teased her as he bolted towards the pool to dive perfectly in the deepest depth.

Ava smiled as Dan returned, taking a moment to admire his physique. She could immediately see what other women saw in him, his chiseled features and charming smile more than enough to reduce any sort of woman to a quivering mess, begging him to take them. Tilting her head to the side, she smiled, silently wondering how many women he had been with before hearing his words.

"U-uuu! D-Daniel! T-that's cheating!" She pouted adorably, watching him dive straight into the deeper depths of the pool. Continuing to pout to herself, instead of jumping to the pool, she descended the nearby ladder, wanting to be more safe than sorry before sequestering herself to the shallower depths, crossing her arms over her chest and making her breasts seem even larger than they already are. "You're such a cheater Dan!"

The sides of the pool had yellow lights on them to illuminate the waters. With the dark sky and the yellow hue, the pool seemed very romantic... precisely why Dan was trying to make this a playful swim. He didn't want any more of the feeling he felt earlier to surface again and make him feel too attracted to his sister.

From under the water, Dan saw those perfect legs descending down to the floor. With a teasing smile, Dan swam faster until he was able to playfully grabbed her ankle before ascending to the surface again.

"Got you" he teased her, smiling at the vulnerable form in his arms. For a while he just stood there, holding Ava and smiling at her a warm and sincere smile. He knew she needed some form of attention and guidance after what she'd been through with Jake. With his thoughts lingering, Dan was unaware that he was holding her for too long.

Ava was pouting adorably before feeling something grab at her ankle, unable to resist letting out a scream before gasping for breath as Dan suddenly lifted her up, holding her in his arms. Patting her chest as if doing so would allow her to calm down, she looked at him and whimpered adorably. "D-don't do that again! I-I got so frightened!" She said cutely, clinging to her brother. His arms felt nice and strong, a lot sturdier than the arms that had held her before.

Blushing cutely as she looked at him, she squirmed slightly in his grip. Her large innocent eyes were locked upon him, silently admiring his face too. Her brother - not biologically of course - was incredibly good looking and even more so now than ever, did she realize how easily it was for women to fall in love with him.

"You've grown so much, Ava.." Dan spoke softly, almost too softly but since the younger female was too near, he was sure she heard. His arms lowered down until they rested behind her lower back, making him unconsciously pull her closer. Right now, nothing mattered. He missed her so much and now that there was no other man in competition with her attention, Dan simply smiled and held her.

Then again, Dan suddenly woke up to reality. This night was, after all, supposed to be playful and not sweet.

Slowly, he let her go and stood right beside her.

"Race you to the other end?" He told her playfully as he positioned and readied himself for the swim.

Blushing adorably at Dan's words, she nodded her head slowly. "Y-yes I know... s-so have you, Daniel." She replied before feeling his arms move against her, the feeling very comforting to her. She had missed such intimate contact - it was something she never got with Jake, so now that someone was providing it for her made her so very happy. Biting her lip adorably, she let Daniel put her down and she took a moment to adjust the top part of her bikini.

"A-a race...? I'm not good at that sort of stuff and it's to the deep end..." She whimpered, shuffling in the water slightly. She had never been incredibly confident in her swimming skills, which is why she always preferred the shallow end. But knowing that her brother was trying to encourage her, she smiled somewhat before assuming a similar pose.

"Come on, sis!" Dan cheered. All you gotta do is paddle against the wall, move your arms and feet and the next thing you know, you're already swimming! Try it, it's going to be fun!" He told her. He raised his leg and positioned it against the wall, ready to kick off. He had his arms stretched out in front of her before glancing back at Ava. "On the count of three. One.... two.... three!"

At that, Dan kicked off and swam wondering if Ava followed him as well.

Ava looked at Dan and blushed, nodding slowly at his encouragement. She wasn't used to anyone encouraging, asides from her parents and of course Daniel himself, but his words pierced her more than usual. Imitating her brother, she pressed her feet against the wall before stretching out her arms. Hearing his count, Ava nodded and was ready, attempting to do her absolute best for her brother. After all, he was so supportive of her, it was her time to try and do something for him.

At three, she kicked off and followed Daniel. Though she wasn't an exceptional swimmer, she did her absolute best to stay afloat, a big deal for her. Unfortunately, her lack of coordination threw her limbs off and she ended up flailing around in between the deep and shallow end, barely managing to tread water.

Hearing the splashes of water from where he was, Dan rose back up to the surface to see her sister struggling. Instantly he swam back to her, grabbed her waist and carried her back to safer depths with nothing but a pure apologetic look on his face.

"I'm sorry, Ava..." he told her. "I... I just missed having fun with you and---" He broke off, suddenly remembering a memory from long ago, around three years before that night. Sighing softly, he simply embraced her. "---I just want to swim with a perfect girl. One who accepts me as I am and not as some... you know... popular kid down the block"

He was subtly implying on his first and only ex girlfriend who he used to do a lot of sports with, including swimming, who dumped him for the shallowest of reasons. Now he realized, after three years, how much he missed being with a girl and having a girl in his arms.

Coughing slightly, Ava looked at Daniel as he carried her to a safer spot and shook her head quickly. "N-no! I-I mean, I-I wasn't drowning and i-it's certainly not your fault!" She said gently, biting her lip. Letting him embrace her, she hugged him back tightly and patted him on the head gently, having to tip-toe to do so. "I-it's okay Daniel, don't beat yourself over it so much~" Ava smiled encouragingly.

At his comment of 'the perfect girl', Ava blushed cutely but shook her head. "T-there's nothing perfect about me Dan~ I mean, after Jake, I'm basically um.... 'damaged goods' now?" She continued, tilting her head to the side and looking thoughtful, as if pondering whether she had actually used the word correctly. "I-it's okay Daniel~" she said soothingly, smiling at him as she realized that her brother had been incredibly lonely.

Dan buried his face on the crook of Ava's neck and breathed her scent softly. Even if it dominantly smelled like chlorine, there was something about her natural scent that got him too intoxicated.

"You're beautiful..." He told her in a whisper against her ear. He wanted to know more. How far had she and Jake gone? What did she mean by damaged goods? What kind of damage did Jake to her exactly?

"Tell me..." Dan began again, still in the same position as he spoke, causing his lips to lightly touch the skin of her neck. "What did Jake to do you? How far did you both go?"

The thought of her in bed with some other man... it caused him to have an uncomfortable twisting sensation in his stomach. He imagine his sister covered in nothing but the sheets of the bed, smiling vulnerably and cluelessly at a jerk who wants nothing more than her perfect body and some sexy time with her. Jake didn't love her.

"What of you did he touch, Ava? What should I know?" He said. He knew Ava never really grew up with the kind of guidance and attention one should get from their parents precisely why Dan strived to give her all the attention she wanted and needed.
