James sat on the couch in simple gray sweatpants and a black t-shirt as he waited for this daughter to arrive. He had just called her that morning with pain and anguish in his voice as he told her about how her mother had left him for another man and run off, leaving him there alone without so much as a moments notice. Upset and devastated, he tapped his foot anxiously as sat on the couch trying to hold the tears from coming out of his eyes.

RE: My Lover, My Slave, My Daughter

After getting the call from her father Katherine had almost immediately packed her duffel bag for a few days, loaded her dog up into her old dodge pickup truck, and headed towards his house. With her pale grey eyes focused on the road she drove away from the townhouse she was renting, towards the home where she'd grown up. Her solid black German shepherd lays in the passenger seat. Kat arrived at her father's home fairly quickly she got out, grabbing her bag, with her burgundy streaked mahogany hair tied back in a tight ponytail, dressed in combat boots, jeans and a snug black tank top, she walked to the door, Nitro at her side. She didn't bother knocking she simply walked in. Sliding her boots off. She sets her bag down, a four leaf clover tattoo on her inner right wrist "Dad? I'm here." She calls.

Picking up his head out of his hands, James quickly turns his head and sees his daughter standing just inside the door. "Oh sweetheart, thanks for coming over." Getting up, he quickly walks over to his daughter and pull her into a tight hug, his hands rubbing her back. "I don't think I could take if I was left alone right now." Pulling back from the hug, he looks her in the eyes. "I hope it wasn't too much trouble for you to come over."

She willingly steps into her father's hug, wrapping her arms tightly around him in return. "Of course not. It wasn't trouble at all." she murmurs, slowly releasing him. "I can't believe she just took off." She says, sure her and her mother hadn't gotten along great, Kat was too tomboyish growing up, for her mother's tastes, but she'd never guessed that her mom would find another man and take off. From what she had seen her parents had always had a pretty solid marriage. "I'm sorry dad," she says, her hands remaining on his arms lightly, being only 5'6, she had to tip her head up a bit to meet his gaze, as she had to with most men that she held conversations with.

"It's okay baby. You don't have to say sorry for her." He manages a small smile towards his daughter as he lifts his hand to up her face, rubbing his thumb across her cheek. "I'm just glad you're here with me. If you need anything at all while you're here, just let me know. I don't want to make your stay here a burden on you." He turns his head and sees her bag on the floor. "Here, let me help you get your stuff at least." He walks over and easily picks up the duffle. "You don't mind staying in your old room do you? Everything's the way you left it."

She simply smiles softly, "I'm more sorry for the pain she's causing you." She says softly. Then shakes her head "It's not a burden dad. You know I love coming home. Besides I had some time off from the animal shelter, so it works out." She says, she was the head dog trainer at a local animal shelter, but with the new assistant she hired recently, it gave Kat some time off. "I don't mind staying in my room." She says, letting him lead her up there, Nitro pads along beside Kat. She smiles, looking around her room, it was just how she'd left it when she'd moved out a couple years ago. Even the dog bed in the corner, which had been Nitro's as a puppy. Nitro had been a birthday present from her parents.

He set her bag down onto her bed. "Remember, just let me know if you need anything while you're staying here. I know you're doing me a big favor and I appreciate it. I'll just be in my room or my study." As he turns around to leave, Nitro walks around his legs, tongue out and panting. With a smile on his face, James leans down and rubs him between the ears. "Hey boy. You sure got big. Keep Kat some company." He gets back up and goes into his room where he just lies on the bed, thinking.

Kat nods, "Okay dad," She says with a smile, she watches him go before setting her bag on the bed she unpacks Nitro's bowls and food, and a couple of his non-squeaking toys. She then pulls out her clothes, putting them away. She had a couple of books, along with her toothbrush, toothpaste and hair brush. She sits down on the bed, rubbing her hands over Nitro when he walked over. She simply sat there for a few moments, her mind still wondering how her mother could have done this. After 20 years of marriage. But she had never really understood her mother entirely, so Kat wasn't surprised that her mother did things that Kat hadn't expected her to.

As he lay there on the bed, James' thoughts kept coming back to the woman who had betrayed him and broken his heart. Thinking, "Why?" over and over again, he couldn't come to a logical conclusion and could only believe that she had been cheating on him the whole time they had been together. Angry, bitter, and depressed, he rolled over onto his side and let out a heavy sigh, both physically and emotionally exhausted. His eyelids soon grew heavy, and the upon reopening them, he saw that a few hours had passed and it was now seven at night. Sitting up groggily and rubbing his eyes, he called out, "Kat?"

Kat spent a while in her room, but eventually wandered out, she found her father sleeping in his room. Leaving him there she went down stairs, answering a couple of texts from friends, and after a little while, she began dinner. It wasn't anything fancy since Kat would be the first to admit she wasn't the greatest cook. But she made simple hamburgers with green beans on the side. It was just about finished when she heard her name "Yeah Dad, I'm in the kitchen." she calls back towards the stairs, she took a long drink from the water bottle she'd grabbed from the fridge, as she continued to cook.

Making his way down the stairs, James could detect the smell of food in the air. As he entered the kitchen, he saw his loving daughter at the stove preparing dinner for him. Walking up behind her, he places his hands on her hips as he leans over her shoulder and plants a kiss on her cheek. "Thanks for making dinner for me sweety. You should have woken me up. I could have helped you." He then turns to grab some plates out of the cabinet to make things easier for her.

Kat smiles, leaning briefly back against her father. "It's no problem, besides you looked like you needed to sleep." She says, putting two buns on the plates and then adding the burgers. She pulled the ketchup, mustard, tomato and pickles from the fridge. She fixed her burger how she lied and once the green beans were ready she added half to each plate. "Want anything particular to drink?" She asks as she sets the two plates on the small kitchen table.

"I'm fine with water sweetheart. There's soda, beer, and juice in the fridge if you want," he says, pointing to the fridge before grabbing a glass and pouring a cup of water for himself and setting it on the table. He turns back to the counter and grabs a few paper towels and napkins as well as another glass for Kat's beverage and placing it on the table. Sitting down, he takes a sip of water as he waits for his daughter to come sit down next to him.

She nods, making herself a glass of orange juice for herself . She then joined her dad at the table, sitting down across from him, she took a slow drink of her juice, enjoying the taste of it before beginning to eat. The burger was decent, she had paid special attention to not burn these. Something she did fairly easily when she cooked at home. She didn't say much as they ate, but the silence was comfortable, so it was easy to hold it.

James smiled as Katherine sat down at the table in the seat opposite from him. They ate and drank in silence until they had finished their meal. Sitting there, looking at each other, James finally reached out his hand and placed it on his daughter's, caressing the top of her hand with his thumb. "Thanks for making dinner sweetheart. It was delicious, and thanks for being here for me," he said as he slowly sat up and leaned in to kiss her cheek, but his lips met the edge of hers accidentally.

She smiles as they finished eating "It's no problem at all dad, I'm glad to be here. I would have insisted on coming, if you hadn't asked me to." She says firmly, she turned her hand over under his after a moment, so that their palms were pressed together. She was a bit surprised at the kiss, since it didn't completely hit her cheek. But it was just an accident, she returned the kiss lightly, mostly touching the side of his cheek.

James smiled at his daughter's sweet words, bringing his other hand up to hold hers between both of his. "Thanks, sweetheart. It means a lot to me," he said softly, letting his hands rub over hers gently. They sat there for a few moments, simply being in each others' presence and letting their meal digest. "Well what do you want to do know baby? Anything you want since you made dinner for us."

She shrugs "I'll clean up, then maybe we can just hang out, watch a movie?" She asks, it was already getting to be evening and it would be nice to just sit around and spend time with her dad, she hadn't had the chance to spend time with him lately, she'd been busy with work and such. She stood up after a few more moments gathering their plates to rinse off and put in the dishwasher, the only thing that needed to be cleaned was the pot that the beans were in and the frying pan used for the burgers.
