There is said to be a village, secluded from most of the world, that worships a powerful goddess. It is said that if the goddess does not receive a male sacrifice every hundred years, the village will burn in holy flames. Julius was chosen to be that next sacrifice. It is said to be the highest honor in the village, to be sacrificed to save the people, but that didn't change that he was scared of death.
As he traveled along the road towards the temple, he began to look back at his life, missing the things he enjoyed. A home cooked meal prepared by his mother after working hard in the fields with his father. Spending evenings with friends, causing mischief. Even wanting to get romantically involved with the young maiden that always eyed him. All of that will be gone, just because he was chosen in the 'raffle' to be sacrificed to the goddess that guards and threatens their land.
Upon finally reaching the temple, he stepped inside, fearing what was to come. "Hello?" He called out, expecting priests or monks to greet him. "Is anybody here? I was chosen as the sacrifice." Nobody answered him. Maybe it was all a myth. Maybe there was no goddess and that it was all a joke to play on him. He took a few steps into the temple, but stopped when he started to feel a presence. At first, if felt like he was being watched, but nobody was around. Next thing he knew, he was blinded by a bright light and the floor disappeared from underneath him. He wasn't falling, but more of just floating. He tried shouting for help, but there was no response.
Finally, the light disappeared, but he didn't recognize the place he was in. He was no longer in a dark temple lit by candles, but instead he was outdoors in what looked like a tropical paradise. "H-hello?" He was a little scared of what was happening, hoping someone would tell him where he was.
