Andrew sat up, the cold concrete floor sticking to his skin. He coughed, realizing how dry his throat was. As his eyes adjusted, Andrew stood up and realized where he was... He was in the hazmat chamber... the worst HAD happened. Slowly, he walked to the door, looking out the small window of two inch thick glass. Corpses. Nothing but corpses were left in the red glow of the bunker. They had chosen him to survive? Why him?

Everything had been so normal until 4 months ago. C9-11x was its medical identification, polyastriphism syndrome was the scientific name, but most people just knew it as "mania". It all started in a midwestern suburb when a mother killed her children in a fit of panic. When they arrested her, she was calm and had no recollection of it all. She was fine. That was, until that night, when the mutations set in. Once the mutations begin, most patients only had a 24-72 hour window of survival. Mania had a %100 fatality rate.

The dying were quarantined, but it was tricky. Within two weeks the virus had mutated and become much more aggressive, causing zombie-like manifestations. Humanity fought back as long as it could, but the bunkers systems were set up as a team of scientists planned to set off several explosives to destroy the force of mania mutants.

Andrew made his way to the surface to see what had happened. For some reason, he was immune. There was said to be about 0.00004% of the population that was immune, but a lot of them were killed for their blood to be used as an antidote. Andrew finally pushed the hatch door open. It looked like something right out of a movie! The city was toppled and toppling, destroyed, cars were littered about, just sitting there, empty.

Andrew was 19 years old, he worked out regularly and did parkour in his free time, so THIS was the opportunity of a lifetime. He was about 5' 11 and had medium length brown hair.

As long as he could find food and shelter, maybe some ammunition just in case, this was going to be a good time! He smiled, never having felt more alive in his whole life.

He took off running, heading toward the first pile of rubble he could find, hopping up on to it and heading upwards.
