September 6th 1932, it was a cold night in Old Town or Poor Town as it was often called by those lucky enough to not live there. Old Town was the ghetto of the city and was divided into districts based on the race and nationality of the immigrants that occupied them. Irish, Polish, Russian, Italian, Greek, Jamaican, African, Cuban, Mexican and Chinese were just a few of the many nationality's that were present in Old Town. These immigrants were able to freely govern themselves in small criminal gangs without the Mafia getting in their way. The Mob saw Old Town as a wasteland, a diseased slum where no real money could be made without the use of Narcotics, something the highly traditional Giovanni Family refused to get involved in. The Giovanni Family was the city's biggest Mafia, they controlled most of the city and often hired men from Old Town for minor dirty jobs they did not want to be linked too.
In Bukowski's Boxing Gym at the heart of the Polish district of Old Town, another busy illegal fight night was underway. The Gym was made up of one large warehouse like room with a boxing ring at its center and numerous small side rooms. The main hall was bustling with all kinds of crooks and criminals from the lowly pick pocket to the made man and one or two crooked cops. Amongst the crowd was Patrick 'Paddy' Finnegan, a crook and con artist who had only immigrated to the states a few months ago. Paddy was a short stocky Irish Man of 24, with a freshly shaved face and his dark brown hair greased back beneath his black fedora hat he looked quite the respectable guy. But this was all part of his facade, he was clad also in a black leather trench coat that he wore over a cheap brown suit all of which made him look more than your average street hood. With a fist full betting slips in his left hand and a bottle of beer in his right he stood close to the ring enjoying the fight as he watched the Boxer he managed who was also his close friend Sean 'The Brawn' O'hare fight his way to yet another victory.
Sean 'The Brawn' O'hare was a 22 year old Irish immigrant and childhood friend of Paddy. The pair had made quite the name for themselves back home in Dublin where they worked together to con local gangsters out of their cash through fixed boxing matches. This would ultimately come back to bite the pair in the ass and force them to flee Ireland for their very lives. Sean was a tall muscular man, almost the image of perfection but his beaten face, busted nose and deep Irish accent spoiled this illusion. He had shoulder length light brown yet almost reddish hair that often led to him being called his other nickname 'The Irish Devil' at fights, though he often stuck with being known as the Brawn due to the fact it rhymed with Sean and it also summed up his part in his and Paddy's little operation. Sean was renowned for his speed and agility in the ring that was always coupled with fists that were often remarked to be as powerful as sledgehammers.
"COME ON SEAN KNOCK THAT POLISH BASTARDS HEAD OFF!" Paddy yelled in his usual 'subtle' manner, as he watched in excitement needing Sean to win so he could win big on his bets. Sean smiled as he ducked and dodged his opponents fists as he toyed with the larger Polish man like a wolf with a wounded deer. Their con was simple, let the match last till the sixth round and then knock out the guy. As everyone else was expecting Sean to end the match in the first few rounds no one else had bet on him ending it in the sixth! And it was no surprise that Paddy had made the bets under another name; 'Shamus O'Neil' to avoid being caught cheating.
