It was a pretty standard Friday night for Alex, hanging out with some of his friends at a party. He wasn’t a big drinker but he was a little buzzed by now. There were a lot of people at the house tonight, and actually a handful of good looking girls, but Alex decided against trying to pick someone tonight. It wasn’t that he wasn’t confident he just wanted to hang out and have a good time rather than go through the effort of flirting with someone and trying to get them to hook up with him.

Alex was a junior in college, majoring in sports management. He was average height, at just 5’7, and and athletic build to him. He was a bulky muscular guy like some of his friends on the football team, he was lean and cut, primarily from the large amount of swimming he took part in. With messy blonde hair, green eyes, and bright smile he was easily to get along with and did pretty well with the girls at that.

It got to be about 2:00am and the party started to thin out, although Alex wanted to stick around and keep playing some video games with the guys. After a few more drinks Alex took a look at the time and figured he should start heading back to his house. Even though he drove to the party, he would definitely have to walked it the handful of blocks. This decision is what would start to make Alex’s life take a drastic turn.

The walk home was probably on a twenty minute walk but it got a little interesting pretty quickly. A few minutes into the walk Alex walked past the 7-11 that was on the other side of the street. This was a popular place for party goers to stop by on their way home but it was a little late to see groups hanging out there now. He almost at his street that he would have to turn down to finish up the last fifteen minutes of his walk when he turned to look back at the 7-11 for some unknown reason. This is when he saw someone rush out of the store and into their car. He didn’t think much of it until he realized that they were actually running out of the store. Thinking it was probably something stupid he turned and walked back to his house. He thought about what he saw a few times before he fell asleep, he could barely see who the person was in the darkness, but it definitely looked like a college age girl. Alex eventually drifted off into sleep figuring he would never have to think back to that moment again.

It had been a week since Ella had run out of the 7-11, she remembered it clearly though.

She quietly made her way to the back of the store. Standing in front of the refrigerator she looked back to the grey haired man behind the register only to see him flicking through a magazine. When she was sure that he wasn't looking she carefully opened the door and pulled out two bottles of whatever alcohol was closest then, while watching to make sure the old man wasn't looking, she placed the bottles into her coat and out of sight. Ella then closed the door to the fridge and proceed to make her way up to the counter, grabbing a bag of chips and a chocolate bar on the way.

"That will be $27.50." The man said as he rang up the chocolate bar. Ella's blue eyes shot up to meet his as she gave him a confused look. "$2.30 for the chocolate bar, $3.20 for the chips and then $11.00 for each of the bottles in your jacket." The man explained, looking down at her. She stood shocked for a moment as she realized what the man had just said. Panic washed over her and without thinking she threw whatever money was in her hand at the old man, picked up her purchases and hurried our of the store and to her car and quickly drove off.

It had now been a week since that late night, and she still wasn't sure what compelled her to do it, perhaps only being 18. Ella pushed the thought of last week out of her mind as she finished getting ready for class. She was already running late so she had to hurry across campus to reach her Philosophy class. Hoping not to draw any attention to herself she crept into the room as quietly as possible and went to take a seat. Seeing that her usual up the back was taken, she made her way down toward the middle of the room and found a empty seat in front of a group of boys.
