Angela Miller had the sort of luck that some might admire, but which he had far less reason to appreciate. After ten years of marriage, her husband had died on the job. It had been the company's fault for not bothering to install the required safety features, so they had given the young widow a large settlement. While it was true that this money meant that she could afford to be a stay at home mom for their son, and the boy wanted for no necessity, it seemed a very bad trade for a loving husband and father.
Six years had passed since the accident, and Angela's son was now 15. He had grown into a wonderful young man. Angela was certain this was due as much to his naturally good character and determination as to her parenting. She knew that her son had missed out from losing his father, but she had never remarried. So far she had found no man who could come close to equalling her dead husband... except for her son. He was every bit as smart, good natured and kind as Henry had been. Angela had no doubt that he would make some lucky girl very happy some day.
Soon, her son would be arriving home from school. It was a pleasant, spring day, and Angela was preparing to have a cookout. She thought it would be very nice to have dinner alfresco with her son that night and enjoy the warm weather after a cold winter.
