Rebecca was searching through the dumpster behind the restaurant again as she had been doing in the months since she had been kicked out of her house. It was so stupid, why did her parents kicked her out? Well because one of her grades had dropped to a D and she supposed she had left because she was sick and tired of fighting with them over her grades. Bs and As were great, a C was good, and she knew a D was not so good, but could they really blame her, she didn't understand the class and struggled with the homework. So she had been kicked out and she had stayed out, but sometimes she wished she could go back, it had been hard living with just the clothes on her back and scrounging, like a stray dog in the dumpsters behind restaurants for her next meals.
She heard footsteps coming down the street and she froze, sometimes a customer would come, spot her and chase her away, or worse, sometimes the employees would come, spot her, and call the cops. It's not like she ever got caught, she was always sprinting away as they were talking on their cell phones, but she still became nervous as she pulled away from the dumpster and watched the entrance to the alley like a hawk. At the end of the alley, behind this restaurant, there was a linked wire fence that led into the back roads and alleys of the city, if need be she could just run and hop over the fence. She was limber, but she supposed the weight loss that she suffered from helped with making her faster, though it made her more tired and weak at times.
She watched the entrance and tensed, preparing to back up towards the fence as the footsteps became louder and got closer.
