Camille lay in bed staring out into the darkness. Her husband was there beside her, snoring loud enough to raise the roof. It was New Year's Eve, the fifteenth anniversary of their wedding day, and instead of celebrating, they had fought, saying ugly, hateful things to one another, shouting in angered voices, not really sure what they were even shouting about. Nothing had been resolved, of course. They just both got tired of the arguing and went on to bed. He slept while she lay there feeling alone.

Quietly slipping out from beneath the bed covers, Cami walked over to the window. She peered out into the night, observing the lights coming from downtown where the New Year's Eve festivities were just getting underway. She use to love the celebrations and parties, the laughter and excitement the night life could bring. Her eyes grew moist as she recalled happier times, when James, her husband, would accompany her to the movies or go out to eat at a fine restaurant together. She finally quit asking him to take her anywhere as it always ended up in a fight. It seemed as though he couldn't be bothered when it came to her feelings or what she was needing or wanting.

"Why should I stay home and feel sorry for myself?" The words were barely above a whisper as she stood there at the window looking out. "If he doesn't want to celebrate our anniversary or help me to ring in the New Year, there's no reason why I can't, is there?"

It took her less than 10 minutes to change, curl her hair, and put on her makeup. She was a woman on a mission: To go out and party like it was....2013! Dressed in a sexy blue dress and high heels, she quietly closed the front door behind her, not bothering to wake James up or to leave him a note letting him know where she was going. She jumped into her car and headed straight for Ned's Tavern.

Ned's Tavern was packed to the brim with people and for once in like all the years that she had ever seen it, there were bouncers at the door controlling who got in and who didn't. Many of the girls that they were letting pass were the younger more promiscuous type. They took one look at the woman that was a bit over the age range that they seemed to be looking for and kindly asked her to come back later.

She would see not too far from where she was not allowed into Ned's that there was some kind of swanky place that did not look all that busy. A person dressed in a suit walked into the place and no one stopped him or anything. This place looked like it was huge and there was the sound of a harp playing somewhere inside of the place.

So whoever these people were they seemed to be the very classy and more sophisticated sort. A type of people that not usually would have been seen in a party around here since it was so far from people's downtown penthouses and fancy cars. Yet here some of them were mixing it up with each other and drinking wine that was worth more than a few people's salaries. Sounds of laughter, partying and merryment issued from the place seeming to just draw people in.
