A Demanding Relationship

Blind dates through the internet, something that Dominic Strauss would normally find beneath him but recently his attempts at traditional relationship starts, women that he met through work or out on the town had let him down immensely. He couldn't put a finger on it, or rather the problems were many and varied. It had occurred to him, one night a few weeks ago while he had been sitting in his luxurious penthouse apartment, drinking a very well aged glass of scotch that he might be the problem, perhaps it was his standards. Of course he discarded that idea the next morning when he sobered up, he had high standards, he wasn't sure what it was that he needed but if someone failed to live up to his standards then it was of course only proper that he discard them and look ahead to something new... and so now he was on a website that in addition to allowing people to sell their used furniture also made finding a blind date easy... because perhaps random chance would serve him better then his own direction had thus far.

Most of the adds he discarded out of hand, clearly set ups for prostitutes or just lacking images... but one spoke to him in particular. There was a picture that went along with it, one taken of someone who hadn't been paying attention and may not have noticed, the add said that she was the room mate of the young woman in the picture, that her room mate hadn't gone out with any guy since she had arrived at the school several months before and she was trying to set her friend up with someone. Conversation through email assured Dominic that she would be able to arrange the date, that her room mate would go along with it and more out of curiosity then anything else Dominic agreed to the proposed set up. It was an unconventional set up but he was curious and should it turn out to be some strange practical joke or scam then he would be able to leave without much difficulty.

On the agreed upon day of the date Dominic left work early, technically he was only consulting for that law firm so as long as the job got done he could set the hours that he liked. Heading home he took time to get ready, starting with an hour in the gym followed by a shower and a little personal grooming, taking time to style his hair in the manner he prefered and trim down the perpetual stubble that he favored. Dressing he chose a suit that had often served him well, tailored to fit the slim body that he had earned with uncounted hours in the gym, though he found at the age of thirty four he had to work a little harder to keep that shape then he had needed to a decade ago.

Then, dressed, groomed, and with a little cologne applied Dominic got into his BMW and made his way to the dormitory where he was picking his date up from, the fact that she was a college student not bothering him at all as he had long favored younger women. Once the car was parked, giving plenty of distance away from the assortment of used cars that were in the buildings parking lot he walked into the building, getting a few looks from people who clearly knew he wasn't supposed to be there but hardly caring. Letting them assume that he was a grad student or an uncle of a resident was not an issue at all.

It took a few minutes, the buildings lay out a little less then conventional but Dominic found his way to the door of room D17, knocking on it firmly... always on time because to him punctuality was of the utmost importance.

"I'm not going." Aubree said with a matter-of-fact tone, wishing her roommate Jenna would just drop the subject and get out of her room. She'd just dropped the bomb that she had made a blind date profile for her on some weirdo website, and apparently arranged for her to meet someone in just a matter of hours.

"Oh come on Aubree.. it won't kill you to get out of the house for once. Besides, I made sure it would be someone you would like." Jenna told her, using that stupidly sweet smile that was near impossible to say no to.

"Do tell.." she replied sarcastically as she laid back onto her bed, staring up at the ceiling as Jenna continued on.

"Well don't expect me to give you all the juicy details.. but I can assure you, this ones different. No goofy college boys this time."

"Promise?" Aubree asked hesitantly, unsure of whether or not she should believe her overly excited roommate.

"I'm absolutely freaking positive. Just say you'll go, for me?"she said sweetly, again with the smile.

"Fine.. but if it sucks, you owe me." she muttered, still sounding unsure of the entire thing.

"Oh my god thank you," Jenna said, her tone a bit dramatic as she hugged her before continuing, "now lets get you ready." she said with a smile, turning to dig through her closet.

Two hours later, with the help of her roommate, Aubree was dressed and ready for her 'date', if one could even really call it that. So far, everything that Jenna had set up for her had been a bust, so she really wasn't terribly confident that anything would become of tonight. She sighed, taking a look at herself in the mirror. The cadet grey dress she wore was form fitting, something she probably never would've picked on her own. The low-cut, strapless top revealed a generous amount of her c cup breasts while the tightness of the fabric accented her curves. Strangely enough, she liked it. The color was almost identical to that of her eyes. Her hair was curled loosely, her face highlighted with just a hint of powder and a few brushes of mascara along her eyes.

In a sense, knowing that she looked so wonderful almost made her feel even worse about it all. Here she was, completely dressed up for a date that would probably lead to no where. With a sigh, she pushed the thought aside, grabbing her clutch as she slipped on a pair of heels.

"Oh my god Bree.. he's gonna love it." Jenna told her as she peaked her head into her room. "But hurry up, he'll be here any minute." she said in a hurried tone, trying to usher her out of the room and into the tiny living area of their dorm.

"You don't even know who he is.." she replied, following Jenna out of the room. Sitting down on the loveseat, she began to twirl a strand of her hair around her finger, a nervous habit of hers. Dates had never been her thing, period. She hardly ever even went out with her friends. Aubree was the type of person who preferred to keep to herself, essentially the complete opposite of Jenna who was sick of her always being around when she wanted to bring her boyfriend over. She was about 90% certain that was why she was trying to get her to go out. If the date went well, she would be gone more often. At least thats how Jenna had it all thought out.

Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sounds of knocking on the door. She eyed Jenna, who was standing off to the side clapping happily, before standing up, taking a deep breath as she walked over to the door.

"Good luck!" Jenna called to her in a sing song voice as she wandered off into her own room, probably to call her boyfriend and give him the okay to come over.

Pausing as he hand lingered on the door knob, she took one last moment to gather her thoughts. 'Here goes nothing..' she thought to herself, pulling the door open, her eyes widening as she took in the man that stood before her. Jenna certainly hadn't lied when she said no college boys. He had to be at least ten years older than her, probably even a bit more. Even then, everything about him just looked so.. perfect. His clothes, his face, his body. Everything. Already, she felt out of place. "Um.. hi." she finally managed to say, giving him a soft smile as she tried not to act like she had just gone into shock.

Just before he knocked Dominic heard two younger women speaking, one making an accusation towards the other that he could just barely hear through the door. This was followed quickly by a wish of luck after he had knocked on the door, the thought making him smirk a little bit. Really he felt that he was the one who would need luck given the situation that he was in, all he had to go on about the young woman he was seeing that night was a picture of her and the assurance of someone who claimed to be her room mate that she did indeed look like that and would actually be going out with him that night. With the knowledge in the back of his head, that if she turned out to be less then what he had expected when she opened the door, that he could walk away without much trouble Dominic took one last quick moment to adjust the way his suit sat upon his body, knowing it was fitting perfectly as always but unable to be entirely certain without a mirror.

The door opening though put all these thoughts from his mind, with not even an attempt to be subtle Dominic let his eyes roam over his date and smiled at what he saw. It was clearly the young lady from the pictures but she hadn't been done justice by the photographs, she was gorgeous. Going on a blind date that had been arranged through craigslist had been a riskand it looked as though there was a strong possibility that it might pay off some time soon.

“Aubree, right?” He asked with a smile as his icy blue eyes locked onto her own grey eyes, his entire focus upon her in that very moment. “I'm Dominic, hopefully your room mate passed that much along to you.” Charm, it was something that he had been born with, charmisma, the ability to make people not only like him but want to like him, in his experience the key was the smile and the eyecontact. Right at that moment he was turning up the charm as best he knew how, at a glance he knew that he wanted Aubree in the worst way possible, and if he didn't draw her in early then it would be harder for him to pull off.

“Well we should get going though, I normally don't like to rush but this was put together a little last minute so I didn't have a whole lot of options for a dinner reservation. I did however manage to get us a table at Giovani's in twenty minutes.” A higher end resturant not far from the campus, the only way a student would end up being able to eat there was if they had a trust fund or if their parents felt like spurlging to spoil their kid on a birthday or something similar. Dominic, being unable to cook, ate out quite often and it was one of the places he enjoyed most... and was willing to use the fact that he was a regular there to arrange for a table and impress his date with it.

With his smile twisting into something a little close to a cocky smirk Dominic held out his hand towards her, more then willing to escort her to dinner now that he knew this wasn't some sort of bait and switch he had been set up for.

Aubree hadn't known what to expect when Jenna tossed the bomb and told her about the date she had set up for her, but even after trying to prepare herself for whatever she would be presented with, she certainly wasn't prepared for this. He looked more like someone who had just been pulled out of a movie, not someone who was about to take her out on a date. Just one look at him made her feel completely out of her element. It was hard to believe that he had actually sought her out. If Jenna had told the truth about everything, then he had picked her based on her picture. Why would someone like him pick someone as simple as her? By the way he looked, it seemed as though he would be able to get any woman that he wanted, so why choose a college girl like her? Her cheeks flushed a bit as his eyes seemed to make their way over her body. Whatever it was he seemed to see in her, it appeared that he liked it thus far.

"Yes.." she said quietly, trying not to look intimidated. Still, the way his eyes stared so intensely into her own was hard to just shrug off. Out of all the dates Jenna had set up for her, this was the first one that didn't feel the same as the rest. Already, she could tell that Dominic was different. Very different. In a way, it excited her. Though she never admitted it, she wanted to have someone she enjoyed going out with. She wanted to be able to go out and have fun instead of just sit at home all the time. Maybe he was the person she could do that with. But even then, there was something about him that just didn't seem right. In a way, she felt frightened, though she couldn't truly understand it. It was almost as though there was something dark about him.

She couldn't help but allow a look of surprise to spread across her face for a brief moment as he told her where he was taking her. As far as she had known, Giovani's was one of the most expensive restaurants in town, not that she'd ever actually been there to find out. As he spoke, she tried to push her worries aside. After all, he seemed nice enough. Maybe she just needed to open up, experience new things. She'd been so used to the same people, the same places, the same hobbies. Perhaps that was the only reason she felt skeptical.

Giving him another smile, she took his outstretched hand, chills running down her body as she touched him. She was nervous, that much was obvious, but at the same time, he just seemed so inviting. The way he acted made her want to go with him, while at the same time, it scared her. She told herself that it was her, not him. He was perfectly normal, and she just needed to step out of her comfort zone, while in reality she had no idea what she was getting herself into.
