"Your Highness! A few hours!"

The mere words made a sigh from the young Princess's lips leave. "I know. I will be there in a bit." The teenager called back, a low groan leaving. Pushing herself off the railing of her balcony, she glanced down at herself. Though it was a bit after three in the afternoon, the night ahead would be very long for the sixteen year old. Still, it made her head shake lightly. This won't work ... She heard repeating through her mind. Reluctantly, she kept true to her word and headed into her bathroom.

Putting her arms out, multiple servants began to help her undress and wash her. The atmosphere nearly screamed the true emotions of how Selena was feeling along with her eyes.

"You should be happy ... " They tried to reassure her, along with using other multiple lines similar to that. During the whole process, she gave little more than a light nod. She knew she should; but more than anything, the Princess was nervous ... a bit terrified more than anything. Must it be like this?

Of course, the answer to her rhetorical question was 'Yes' ... but it wouldn't stop her from questioning the methods her father was choosing. To aid out with finding a suitor, he was hosting a ball and all of the neighboring families and nations were welcomed. All, that was, save one. She looked up in thought, trying to recall how the feud had even begun. Alas, though, she was far too young to recall and her parents never liked speaking on the matter.

By now, she was getting dressed in an elegant gown, her hair simultaneously being done up in an elegant style. With this masquerade being meant to find her lover, soulmate ... she feared many would take advantage of this event and seek nothing but power, driven by mere lust. Her hazel eyes closed as she felt her raven hair continued to get worked upon.

"Done, Your Highness." She heard in a soft whisper beside her ear.

At the words, her eyes opened as she gazed at herself in a mirror. Selena would give credit where it was due; the servants always did their work beautifully. "Thank you." Her head bowed lightly in appreciation. "While I have time please ... leave me for a while."

Once she was certain they were gone, Selena went back towards the balcony. Another soft sigh left as her eyes gazed down. And thus it soon begins .... She mused, unable to help how this would even work out. Would it be worth the effort in the end? A part of her hoped so, if nothing else to avoid having to worry about this being shoved upon her. And yet, she still feared the results of this dance.

Trystan Tion sighed as he moved along the house. The sky had darkened considerably since he had returned home to his family. While roundabouts the city, he had caught wind of a masquerade ball being held by his family's rivals, and he simply couldn't pass up the chance to sneak inside. At least, that's what his friends had convinced him of. The more he thought about it, the less the idea held appeal to him. While he didn't know what the two families were fighting over, he wouldn't put it past the bastards to have his head if they caught him. He had had far too many brawls with the Fleur family to think very highly of them. But now he had to push those thoughts to the back of his head. His friends would be expecting him, and God knew he wouldn't back down now.

He went into his room, ordering the servants away so he could dress himself for a change. Sometimes being fawned over was tiresome. Every now and then he needed a break. "Which is probably why you are going to this forsaken event in the first place." The young man simply sighed, shaking his head again before slipping a dagger beneath his shirt. It was tucked in a way that it would be unseen by all but the most scrutinous eye. Armed and dressed such, he grabbed the last piece of his outfit. A mask he had made himself, fitted to him and painted a holy white. He had been told he had quite the skillful hand when it came to things like this. He never believed it himself, but he did have to admit, it did not look half bad. With a devilish grin, he donned his dark overcoat and stole out into the night, meeting up with his small group of friends just outside of the Fleur household.

"Alright... Well, we're here. Let those without sin pass through the gates first." No one moved. "Fine then... let those who have the courage to fight for their life, lest they be considered fit only for the duties of a housewife, pass through the gates first." Trystan smiled as the group scrambled to get through the gates. 'Tonight will most certainly be interesting, to say the least. God, let's see what devious plans you have for me.' With a final brush of his hand through his jet black hair, he fitted his mask to his face, covering everything except for his bright blue eyes and anything below the nose in white, he followed behind the others, past the gate, into whatever fate awaited him.

"Your Highness! 'Tis time now!"

Another sigh left the Princess's lips. "By the by, I come. Hold thy tongue and await my presence!" It was clear she had been rather annoyed at being rushed. Slowly, she began to move away from balcony, her footsteps light and soft despite the heels she wore.

"Your Father, he calls!"

A frustrated groan left as her head shook. "What did I just say? By the by, I'm on my way!" Pulling a golden mask that had been set upon her bedside mantle up, she placed it upon her face. Her black hair was seen mainly due to it being as long as it was. The mask, alas, covered only the front part of her body; save her hazel eyes that was. Staring at herself for a few more seconds in the mirror, she hurried downstairs without tripping, soon enough ending up beside her father. Her head bowed lightly as she began to mingle in with the guests that had already arrived.

A gentle yet firm voice was heard before she got too far out of earshot. It was a simple command. "Behave, my daughter ...." Merely giving a slow nod, she remained mixed in the crowds. The gentle tapping of a wine glass was heard as her Father spoke up.

"Lord and ladies, gentlemen and maidens, welcome to my Masquerade. Tonight is not, however, about me but for my beloved daughter Selena Fleur. As this is a masquerade, however, I have sworn not to reveal which exact lady she is. But alas, this is for her to find someone for marriage. And now, without further adieu, let us eat, drink and be merry!"

And with that, some ballroom music began to play. It took little time for a random man to bow to her and offer for her to dance. In truth, she would give anything to decline but she didn't dare, lest her father shove his wrath upon her later. Bowing her head lightly, she began to move to the beat with nearly flawless steps. One of the things she had been taught early on was, indeed, dancing. It was as easy as walking for her. Her hazel eyes slowly gazed around when she had an opportunity. Though, admittingly, she didn't know what at or for. Maybe a miracle? This man was definitely not it; that she could already feel. Her senses were hinting that much to her though why she knew not.

He knows not who I am ... She had noted that when he did speak, he never once tried to address her as something along the lines of 'M'lady', 'Princess', or even 'Your Highness'. She had come up with a few stipulations which her father agreed she could use to help her determine a lover. Wits had been one and with this man having already failed that, he was certainly out of the question.

The group of friends split the second the man who was obviously the head of the household was finished making his speech. The music began to play, and for a little bit, Trystan sat there, eyes closed, listening to the subtle notes of the band waft through the air. He always did appreciate well-played music, and this band certainly did know how to make just the right note. He doubted very many of these people would notice, but he loved it. The way the music lilted, almost as though it had an accent. He sipped at the wine in his cup before standing, placing the glass gently on the table before moving through the dancing crowd. It didn't take him long to find a couple dancing. The man was elegant, if one couldn't count the steps he made. For a second he watched, rubbing his chin before making hsi way over. Something told him the man would not give this dance up very easily, so he studied the crowd around him. He saw a few ladies glance over at the duo, and he grinned as an idea sprung into his head.

The young man gently tapped the other on the shoulder, leaning in close. "Sir, there is an extremely fine looking woman to the left of you that is eying you rather furiously. If you wouldn't mind letting me have this dance, I'm sure the other woman would be more than happy to replace your loss." He winked, and before he got an answer, he smoothly slid in between them, adjusting his step to match the music before smiling at his newly acquired partner."My deepest apologies M'lady, for interupting your dance, but that man's step was horribly off. I can't stand to see such wonderful music ruined by a clumsy mis-step." He winked, chuckling lightly as he swirled with the music to a different spot. While he hadn't been truly educated in dancing, he knew enough to move his feet. That, along with his passionate study of music, lead him to be an adeuquate dancer if he was focused. When the music changed pace, he changed with it, his smile growing little by little as they danced together. He was not wanting to disappoint this lady. Something about her eyes made him even show off a little, adding in flourishes to where there would normally be none.

As the music continued, he would see one of his friends every now and then. They would wave quickly, and he would nod back, chuckling. "So, please tell me, were you dancing with that man out of social duty, or because you actually wanted to dance with him? I really hope you were just dancing together out of duty, and not out of actual desire." He chuckled again, his blue eyes almost seeming to flash. Well, he certainly didn't feel like this before. He vaguely wondered what made him feel so energetic.

Selena looked up, blinking in curiosity. This .... was something she had never heard of or seen being done before; having someone interrupt a dance. Usually it was one of the most rude and unforgivable gestures. And yet, this man had been able to get away with it somehow. Definitely has wit for certain ... A soft smile crossed her face as her head bowed. A low sigh of relief left her lips as she bowed her head in agreement, "Yes, he was very off indeed. It's ... unique to see such an approach given how rare it is. But ... I don't mind."

Wait a second ... he had called her 'M'lady'? Did .. did he know then? Or was it just a coincidence?

Regardless, he had passed the second test; Charm. The man had more than enough of it and was very good at displaying it. Suddenly, this masquerade wasn't turning out too badly. She gave another light nod, swallowing nervously. "Yes ... 'twas indeed merely social duty." She almost wanted to ask if he knew whom exactly she was but that would all but give her away for certain. Besides, it seemed rather rude. With how easy he was passing her mental tests, it only seemed fair that she offer him to have a very fun night.

"May I know the honor of which man I dance with? What house art thou from?" The steps felt even more natural than usual with this one. For once, she wasn't anxious to be dancing. If anything, she wanted to keep going until he had to leave it felt like. She was at least pretty certain that was how she was feeling. With each passing second, her smile continued to widen as she remained with her new partner. For a while, she was finally able to forget about everything else. All the worries and stares she may have been getting - from her parents for certain - were off of her mind right now.

Trystan chuckled at her question, bowing his head lightly. "Now, what kind of a masquerade ball would it be if I told you who I was hm? I've an idea though. If you fancy, we could always attempt to meet after the dance. That is, if you can find me afterwards." He grinned at her again, his bright eyes all but twinkling as the music picked up the pace. They spun effortlessly, slowly towards the back of the room instead of in the middle, where all the good dancers were. Once he was sure there was nobody watching them, he slowed down the pace. Somehow, he still managed to keep with the music. Without breaking the movements, he started to really look at her. She seemed a little hesitant at first, like she was judging him when they had first started dancing. He could feel the change. She didn't seem to be judging him any more.

"I would ask who's bright eyes I'm looking into now, but that would ruin the masquerade part." With that, he bowed his head a little closer to her, still swaying slowly to the music. With a small, mischevious grin, he whispered into her ear. "Even behind that mask, I can tell you are someone very special. A beautiful lady. Your mask is modest compared to some of the other ladies here in this room, and that must mean you have something the others don't. I would really appreciate meeting you after this dance, so, a little gift to remember me by." He took a small breath before pressing his lips to her neck, pulling away slowly and instantly picking back up to the tempo of the band. Eventually, the music died down to one very slow song, and many of the other guests had switched their dancing partners. Trystan kept his partner close though, leaving just enough room for her to squeeze away if she truly wanted to.

She gave a light nod. "It would honor me to do just that. Oh .... I intend to. When I find something I desire, I generally make it a goal to find it once again." Her own smile widened more, her cheeks now slowly becoming crimson. Alas, while the mask was hiding much of her, that was not one of the things it concealed. Her heart seemed to race a bit as they both maintained eye contact with one another, never stopping twirling or moving with one another. "Dancing seems rather natural to you also I note. 'Tis rare to find a man with such grace." Her mind was trying to recall .. what had the third trial of sorts she had agreed upon been?

Wit, Charm .... what am I forgetting? It was annoying her now. She'd never been so taken aback before by anyone. Not even her father. And yet, this man was somehow accomplishing much more than she had ever thought anyone would be able to this night.

Her cheeks got redder as he leaned closer and whispered in her ear. Her own teasing smirk mingled in with her smile. "Mayhaps I am ... mayhaps I'm not. We shall see." Her head tilted at the compliment on the mask. "Oh? You truly think it's modest?" Selena had personally thought it too fancy; it was interesting to hear someone think otherwise.

Her heart raced as he leaned closer, pressing a soft kiss upon her neck. A shiver trailed down her neck and a low chuckle left. "Just for that ... I will definitely meet you with you now that you have stolen my heart and the purity of my lips. I demand those back later and will get them, lest I need to cry out that a thief is among everyone here ...." She whispered softly. If he had expected her to move away, he would be astounded to see that - if anything - she remained rather close. In fact, even as the new song began, she continued to move along with him.
