Craig sat in his living room looking down at the floor. The seventeen year old high school student had just gotten home from school and awaited as his mother overlooked his first semesters report card. He had been a pretty good student through out most of his high school career but there was always one or two subjects that he struggled with. Usually being Math and Science.
This term he barely managed to scrape by in math but his science grades were abysmal.
Craig's mother looked up at him from his report card with a look of disapointment on her face.
"Craig, I am not liking this, I am not liking this at all." She said looking him square in the eyes.
"It's not like I didn't try mom! I'm just not good at Science!" He said trying to reason with her. He didn't know if she had some sort of punishment in mind for his failure but he wasn't looking forward to what ever she had to say.
"If you don't pass these classes you won't graduate with honors. You need to look at colleges this year, these grades are not going to cut it." She reprimanded him.
"I know I don't know what to do, I tried studying and I hand in all of the assignments but I just can't seem to do well." Craig said putting his hands up to his face.
The room was quiet for a long time before someone finally spoke up.
"Maybe we have to get you a tutor, perhaps there's something you're not getting?" His mother suggested.
"I don't really have time for a tutor mom. Between school work and track practice...."
"They won't let you on the team anymore if you keep failing!" His mom warned him. "You will need to take time for a tutor you can afford an hour a week."
"Fine, how do I find a tutor then?" The seventeen year old questioned as his mother stood up and walked into the kitchen. A minute later she came back with a phonebook where tutors for certain subjects would post looking to help students.
"Look through that and call one. You need to shape up." She said. "Your father's not going to like to hear this either." She walked out of the room leaving Craig with the directory.
Minutes later Craig came storming outside annoyed that he had to deal with this. The sun was setting on the Autumn evening and the neighborhood was quiet. Craig leaned against his car in the driveway looking frustrated. That's when he noticed his neighbor was outside as well.
