â??â??Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.â??â??

So letâ??s recap the events, shall we?
Point A
The war had been going on for centuries now. Lurking in the background, pealing away at the strength and courage of those sworn to defend. Like a secret society in the modern world, shifted from the side of the moon that Earth does not see, a world called Luin existed. A kingdom that had been in battle within itself, tearing itself for justice and leadership. The King had died, the Queen in an enchanted slumber like some fairytale. But behind the splendor and glory that once was a proud and strong Kingdomâ??the base of all Magic and unnatural phenomenonâ??was a crumbling foundation.

To restore order, the cardinal shamans sent forth one of their own to the peaceful planet below. Earth was considered a neutral ground, unaware of magic and the civil war.

And yadda yaddaâ?¦ all that magical jazz. All events led from point A to B, and at point Bâ?¦ well, thatâ??s where our journey starts, really. A Shaman in training, sent down to the Rudimentary Academy for Magic to play a high school girl. All in search for the prince and to protect him until the time dictates for his return.

Point B
Their base language was English in the school, situated in the middle of a formal neighborhood surrounded by mainly English speaking natives. So of course one of the classes had to be an English class. Not that it meant the students had to like it. Senior year came rolling around, with many students humming with excitement to get out of the final test and get on with either regular jobs in the daily world, or to be given a role in Luin. It was known that few jobs did still exist in the world â??aboveâ?? them, though how the internal strife was going, was left for speculation for those dwelling hundred of miles away from their â??homeâ??.

â??Kire, are you listening? Better pay attention, since heâ??s going to give a test on this at the end of the week.â? a girl nudged the black haired female. Kire blinked a few times, waking herself as her mind had slipped away from the lesson. Dark strands of black hair curved around her cheeks and around her shoulders. The school uniform was snug on her; white blouse contrasting with her hair beautifullyâ??though she personally thought that the girls with blonde hairs looked rather angelic with the white blouses. The skirt left an ample amount of slender legs to be revealed and hidden quite well that it was longer than her fingertips when she slackened her arms to the side.

Traditional. Iron pressed. Neck tied. Even a crest over the left breast with the initials of R.A.M was of golden silk, heightening the prestige of the school. To outsiders, one would think it was a rich school, when in fact, money had no real value. Only skills and how powerful oneâ??s magic training was.

Kire crossed one leg over the other and nodded, thanking her friend for dragging her attention back to the present situation. Even still, as the teacher spoke about simple fluctuations of pronunciations in languageâ??all of which could alter a simple spell to a more complex oneâ??Kire found her gaze shifting once more. It shifted to the current soccer player, rather popular for the natural skills he had shown in the field. Crisp blonde hair in a wild fashion that drew in girlsâ?? eyes, and such striking blue eyes that made them swoon.

The dark brunette just winced at that, wondering what luck she had to be sent to protect him; Hei if she remembered correctly. Kire hadnâ??t been in school for too long, but as far as she heard, â??jocksâ?? were â??cocksâ??. Personality track didnâ??t fair too well for those guys, but as she hadnâ??t interacted with him very much, she held her judgment. One would have thought that she was interested in him though, as she had been watching and staring at him since the moment she â??transferredâ? into the school. She was so lost in staring at him, that she wasnâ??t even concerned if he saw her staring.

With a small spark of magic that hopefully the teacher didnâ??t catch, she pressed her finger against the wooden desk before her, and began to scrawl out a message. Her concentration was focused solely on his desk, as the words she traced down, shimmered and temporarily inked themselves onto the desk that Hei was sitting at.

â??Walk home together? â?? Kâ??

Hei sat at his desk with a look of boredom. School wasn't much of a joy to him. The stuff they taught wasn't anything new to him, even the magics were just repetition of skills that came naturally to him. The other kids in school looked up to him because of his ability to excel at everything he did. He had a natural gift to be good at what ever he wanted to do. As a kid he showed great mastery of magics such as shape shifting and many difficult summonings. The other students admired his skills, but he saw it as envious. Hei was the star soccer player for the school solely because he picked it up on a whim. He found others to be a burden and a weight for him and that they were constantly holding back.

Though he was cocky and sure of himself he still had a few close friends. One of them was sitting next to him, his friend since childhood, John. "Hei? Are you paying attention? We have a test on this at the end of the week. The coach said if your grades drop you will get kicked." John whispered to him. "Since when do I pay attention in any class? We both know that I'm going to pass because the professor is a huge soccer fan and he wouldn't let this schools star player get kicked off the team because of some stupid grade." Hei answered back arrogantly. John had become Hei's conscience over the years, trying to help him make the right decisions in life and not get into any trouble because of his attitude. Hei was appreciative of John, though he hated to admit it.

Hei looked down at his desk and saw letterings being formed on his desk. He knew who it was from and casually looked back at her. Hei admitted that the new student was very nice looking. Her dark locks that hung off her head to accentuate her beautiful facial features and the way she filled out the uniform so perfectly that he had made it his business to try and get to know her before any other guy had the chance. Hei knew that it wouldn't be much of a problem seeing as she seemed to have sort of an infatuation with him. He smirked and nodded his head in her direction. He turned back to look at the blackboard with a small smile on his face. He looked over at John who was giving him a confusing look. Hei simply moved his head in Kire's direction and John merely rolled his eyes.

The bell rang, signalling the end of another school day. Hei collected his things and said farewell to John. "Sorry man, but I have someone a little more visually appealing to walk home with today." He said with a smirk as he looked over in Kire's direction. He walked over to her and looked her in the eyes with his piercing blue ones. "You ready?" He said.

â??Are you even listening to me?â? the first girl sitting next to Kire asked, tugging on her own blonde strands. She was dressed in a similar uniform, as all girls were, and had lovely blue eyes that narrowed with a bit of a glare. Obviously, she was annoyed, as Kire often times zoned out in class. â??Itâ??s really disturbing to see how infatuated you are with Hei, you know?â? because everyone knew that she was also infatuated with the male.

â??Chill, Laura, Iâ??m only trying to be his friend. You can have him in your bed.â? Kire joked, grinning at her friend as the class bell rang and the students nearly rushed out. Laura stuck her tongue out at the brunette and sighed, before standing up and waving her hand over her shoulders. There was a message about a test tomorrow or whatnots, before she left with the crowd of students.

The brunette just rolled her eyes, standing up to pack her things away into the backpack. It was then that Hei came up to her, asking if she was ready. â??Always.â? she grinned, swinging the bag around her shoulders and moved in time with him to wander out of the school grounds. The walk home for her wasnâ??t as long as his, so sheâ??d be dropped off firstâ??ironically and incidentally, her house was just a block or two away from his in the same direction.

They had been lingering around one another for quite some time since she transferred, causing her to wonder what type of relationship they were forming. Kire knew what she wanted and what she had to do, but it did pique a curious note in her when she wondered what he wanted. Infatuated? Perhaps she was with him, but what was he feeling towards her that he allowed he close? â??So, busy today? My familyâ??s out of town this week andâ?¦ you know. Eating alone and all.â? her tone hinted at an invitation.

________________________________________________________________________

Hei looked over at Kire for a moment. Thoughts running wild in his head. Was this really what he thought it was? An open invitation for him to be alone with her in her home? He was mildly surprised, he was used to making the first move on a girl, but he had a feeling that she was one that wouldn't wait around for a guy. He smirked slightly and replied "I got nothing planned." This was exactly what he had been waiting for.

His feelings towards Kire had started as "lust at first sight" but over the brief time he has gotten to know her his feelings were a bit altered. At first he didn't know what to think of the new girl in ways of personality. Hei had figured she would be hesitant in trying to get his attention. It wasn't often that the new girl would go directly for the schools most sought after man. Kire however made it clear to everyone who she wanted and intended to get. She had a confidence that he had never seen in a woman.

Hei also wondered what was her intentions with him. He knew so little about her and her past. He wondered if she was the type to bag a guy then leave them after she was finished with them. Was he just another guy to add in her collection? Maybe she was genuinely interested in him? He pondered this to himself and decided that either way, he was going to have an interesting day.

'Of course she could want you for some far more important reason than human attraction.' He thought to himself. He choked back a laugh and shooed away the idea. He figured it was a ridiculous thought. He wasn't that much of a important persona he reasoned. He may be the best at magic, sports, and has the highest GPA, but it didn't mean anything, did it?

His positive answer made her smile, the tilt of her lips almost innocent in the way that she looked at him. â??I was going to make something simple like spaghetti, if thatâ??s alright?â? she asked, motioning towards the large house at the end of the street. Kire didnâ??t even look back to take note if he was following her or not, as she wandered the sidewalk and chattered about some random recipe that her grandma had left her.

Heâ??s like a lost puppy. she thought in her mind, as she opened the door and ushered him in like one. Once inside, she closed the door and unconsciously locked it, mainly because of habit really. Shoes were kicked off, before she wandered towards the kitchen. â??You can check the place out if you want, but donâ??t touch anything.â? the dark haired female offered, firm in the fact that she didnâ??t want him breaking anything.

Meanwhile, she moved into the kitchen and began to cook dinner, aware that the whole idea of dinner alone was just a cover story. It had been quite some time that she had started school at the same place that Hei did, and keeping him close was a necessary thing as the full moon was coming upon them. Kire was sure that the shadows following the male werenâ??t her imagination, and despite the fact that she didnâ??t want this job at the beginning, she was determined to watch over the stray pup until he was ready to return. â??If youâ??d like, you could search under the television for some movies or games.â?

Hei walked into the home and removed his shoes. He glanced around at all her families belongings. Though he wasn't that interested, he couldn't help but walk around and give himself a tour. He heard Kire's warning and continued about his way. He looked in all the rooms and found the one he figured was her's. He had expected lots of pink and stuffed animals but was a little surprised to find that it was very modest. No animals, no boy band posters, no pink. It looked like an average adult bedroom.

He closed the door and wandered back to the kitchen to see Kire making the food. He watched as she prepped everything with fluid movements as if she had done this many times before. He never figured her to be good at such women work but then again it wasn't the first time she had surprised him. He leaned against the door frame and continued to watch her.

"That's okay, watching you cook is plenty entertainment. Do you do it often?" He asked with a smirk. He suddenly felt a chill run up his spine and the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. He shivered slightly and shook it off. 'That was weird.' He thought to himself as he began to walk around the kitchen. "Need any help?" He asked with a small smile.

Lurkers were all around, and despite the fact that her house was warded; they seemed to find ways to leek in and take a peek. Kire turned her gaze over towards him to see his smirk and wondered what exactly was so special about this male. Surely, a title was nothing more than that, and yet, there he was, sought out like some lamb to the wolves. She didnâ??t care to dwell on it though, as it wasnâ??t her place to worry over such trivial thingsâ??those were for the Elders to figure out and for her to follow.

â??Sure, you can cut the onions and garlic.â? the dark brunette teased, motioning towards the cupboard with the said ingredients. As for herself, she shuffled around and found the salt, before adding a pinch into the water to add flavor and bring the boiling temperature up for the noodles to cook in. â??So, how are you doing in school? I hope well?â? Kire asked, tone casual, but slightly strange for another student to ask as if she was his parent.

She moved towards the fridge to get out some dough she had made a night or so before. Homemade noodles were best, so she had made them prior, and all she had to do now was run the dough through the noodle cutting machine to press it and evenly slice the pieces. As she did so, she continued to peek glances at Hei, curious to see if she continued staring at him, something about him that made him special would pop out. If she had been a scientist, she would have wanted to dissect himâ??and in a psychological sense, she did want to.

Hei began to cut the onions. The fumes hurting his eyes but he with held the tears for a moment. "I'm doing good." he answered a little skeptically. He wasn't expecting her to ask that and kinda wondered why she did. Could it be she was nervous around him? It couldn't be, Hei figured. "How about you?" He asked trying to keep the conversation.

He was surprised when she started to make homemade noodles. Not alot of people would go through the effort, but he knew that it was worth it in the final product. He noticed her stealing glances at him. He didn't mind it as long as she didn't figure out he was doing the same thing.

He was intrigued by this woman and there was something about her that separated her from all the other girls. He wanted to know more about this girl. "So...what was it like from where your from?" He asked. Very few people knew anything about where she was from and he was genuinely curious.

________________________________________________________________________
A shadow flickered in the corner of her eyes, causing her to tense up at the idea of someone or thing breaking through the loose guarded shields that were around her house. However, it was not the time to appear like some psycho in front of Hei, so she plastered her smile back on and rolled her shoulders in a shrug. â??I suppose Iâ??m doing well. New subject and all.â? and it would help if she actually paid any attention in class. â??You seem to get such great results though. Whatâ??s your secret?â?

As she spoke, her job of finishing the noodles finished quickly, before she dropped the noodles into a pot of water and placed it on the stove to fully cook. Meat preparation wasnâ??t that hard, as it was just throwing in what he had chopped up, cooking the meat, draining it, and then adding the appropriate spices. Their conversation was light, even innocent in the sense that it could have been much differentâ??what with a male and female, appearing teen in years, being alone in the house together. But the lingering shadows and presence of something else watching them and being around them still had half of Kireâ??s attention, defensive mind alert.

â??Oh, and umâ?¦â? she glanced at the window, where the sky was shaded darker than it should have been at this time in the day, before glancing back at him. â??Itâ??s ratherâ?¦ magical. Similar to here, I suppose, but using your magic is more common than preparing meals with utensils.â? she joked, bumping their hips together playfully. â??Can I ask you something? This might sound crazy, butâ?¦â? she didnâ??t finish, as her eyes flickered towards the window, asking a silent question on if he noticed something strange around them. The dark brunette had an inkling of what was going on, but she wondered if Hei knew anything about himself.
________________________________________________________________________

Hei was caught off guard by her question. He wondered what she could ask, especially if she found it 'crazy'. He quirked an eyebrow when she stopped. A little confused, he followed her eyes to the window. He saw nothing but the night sky outside. A moment passed before he realized that it was only five o'clock and night should not be for another few hours. Suddenly the windows shattered and a harsh cold wind flowed inside. The temperature of the room plummeted substantially as what seemed to be shadows consumed the interior of the house. "What the hell is going on?!" Hei shouted as a figure rose from the darkness.

It looked very menacing as it floated over to Hei. "The prince must die!" the creature hissed out in a voice that sounded inhuman and not from this realm. Hei stood his ground. He didn't know what it was talking about but he knew it wasn't friendly. He looked over a Kire who seemed a little angry, but not scared in the least. Hei being the school jock felt inclined to protect a girl when in danger. He puffed out his chest and summoned up his courage and stomped over to the lurker.

"I don't know who you think you are but you messed with the wrong student!" He shouted as he drew back and drove his fist into the demon. Hei had been in numerous fights throughout his life. His strength was incomparable to all his opponents. Each fight ended with one strong punch to the jaw. The students grew to fear his 'knock-out punch' and dared not to mess with him after awhile. However, when Hei through the punch it merely passed right through the demon, sending him off balanced. He would have hit the groud if the demon had not caught him in it's large clawed hands. "Death to the prince!" It shouted as it flung Hei into a nearby wall with amazing force. Hei crumpled to the ground, his back in severe pain.

________________________________________________________________________
The shadows felt like they were creeping closer and closer, so it wasnâ??t a surprise to her that the figure appeared from the darkness. Kire tilted her head to the side and stepped back, trying to keep herself from leaping into the fight-or-flight response. It would not help either of them if she decided to take flight, after all.

However, when Hei attempted to take a step towards the creature and even shouted at it â?? attacked it with a physical move â?? she almost wanted to smack her own forehead. â??Hei, NO!â? but of course it was too late, and he went right through the demon and was subsequently thrown like a rag doll.

â??Shit, can you get up?â? the dark haired female asked, leaping back and summoning fire spells. The demon was of shadows and ice, lowly creatures sent to do the work of simple murders really. She flared a spark here and there, to distract the demon as she made her way towards Hei. â??Get up.â? Kire demanded, miffed that the so-called prince had been nearly knocked out in the first move. â??Demon, who sent you? Dare you attack the Prince of Luin?â?

Hei coughed as he struggled to sit up. His chest aching with every breath. He put a hand on his head and winced. "What happened?" He said in slight confusion as he looked up to see Kire commanding him to get up, an unimpressed expression on her face. He looked behind her to see the demon. It's menacing gaze never faltering. He staggered to his feet and leaned against the wall the demon had nearly put him through.

"Prince of what? What the hell is going on here?" He questioned as he held his side. Kire was standing between the demon and him. She was protecting him. Hei felt a little degraded by having to stand behind a woman for the first time in his life. This would surely knock off a few macho points in his book, but there was nothing he could do. The demon was obviously very different from all his other enemies, physical attacks were useless and it would take strong magic to defeat it.

He rested against the wall and let Kire do her thing while he took this time to recover. He was surprised that so much damage was done with just one swipe of the creatures claws. Why was this demon here anyways? What business did it have with him? So many questions bombarded his head, only worsening his headache.
