Mackenzie couldn't help but smile as she made her way through the suburban neighborhood, memories of her friends and family all coming back to her as she took in the scenery. She had only been gone for a year but it felt like forever, especially since so much had changed back at home. Her mother had met what seemed like a great guy and the two had been hitting it off rather well, so well that they had even gotten married during her stay away from home.
She had to admit she was shocked at first with the news, especially since it was one of her old high school teachers, namely one she had a bit of a crush on. But she knew her mother deserved to be happy, especially after her father had left her for another woman.
She could feel her heart skip a beat as she pulled into the driveway, noticing that Mr. Thompson was right outside along with her mom, even more attractive than when she was in his class. She squealed in excitement as she parked the car, jumping out of the white Dodge as she ran towards her mother. "Mom! It's been too long!" she said, smiling brightly as she ran up to the brunette and embraced her. After squeezing her for what seemed like hours, she slowly pulled away and looked towards Alex, giving him a small smile as she looked him over one time. "Wow Mom. He's even more handsome than I remember." She gave him an awkward smile before giving him a quick hug, not wanting to stir up any old feelings she had hiding inside of her.
She smoothed down her white t-shirt and khaki shorts, simply staring at the two with a big smile as she asked about their plans for the evening. "So, what are we doing tonight? Gosh, it feels so good to be back home. I can't wait to get settled back in for good."
