Earth had been destroyed by a massive asteroid impact. Millions perished in the fires that swept away from the impact zone. The rest succumbed to the nuclear winter caused by the blackened skies left by the impact. This had left the planet uninhabitable for many years to come. As a result, mankind had to search for another planet to live. In recent years, many planets similar to earth had been discovered. It was one of these that were chosen for exploration and colonization. The ship known as the Galactic Avenger had been traveling for some time through deep space ever since leaving planet earth. It had not come across any planet during it’s journey for the past several months. In fact, it had already ventured out beyond the outer planets of the known solar system. It was passing through the void in between those planets and the ones furthest out.
Then finally, in it’s seventh month, it came across a distress signal. The message was clear; a ship not that far from the Avenger was in trouble and needed assistance. The crew of the Avenger answered the call and located the ship.
The captain of the ship, Angel found herself being called to the control room where both the ship's pilots were located. She walked quickly after sensing that something was wrong. She could hear it in the pilot's voice. She arrived in the cockpit as the pilot was explaining the situation to her, "We have received a distress signal from a ship."
Angel raises an eyebrow before throwing aside her red hair and asking, "What do you mean? We should be the only ones out here." Was it an alien ship? The crew around her was just as confused as she was about the uncertainty of this information.
The pilot nodded before answering, "It is coming from here. A ship located near some unknown planet. It is the first planet we have encountered since we passed the last one. I haven't been able to contact the ship's crew. Radios seem to be down on that ship or something. That is even if they have radios."
Angel sighs before answering, "We shall have to dock there and board the ship. We shall have to find out what is going on. If it is an abandoned ship then so be it, but we can’t leave it out here unexplored. There might be survivors abroad.”
The crew nodded and they knew the feeling well. The horror at witnessing the destruction of earth was still fresh in their minds. Many of those that remained had survivor’s guilt. That meant that they felt obligated to investigate the ship.
“You know the rules of vessels found in space. We will have to take caution once on the ship.” Angel told the crew. The ship then docked and she led a crew of herself and two others onto the ship. They ventured onto the ship to find out anything that could explain why it was drifting in space? It didn't take long before they realized that the ship was empty with no sign of life. They started down a long corridor and had their guns drawn for any sign of danger. They were now deep in the ship with no sign of life still.
She decided to radio the avenger to see if they had anything. She hit talk but her radio was not working. She taps it as she curses under her breath. Then she drew her weapon when she thought she had heard a sound. "What was that?" She seemed to be asking herself; the riffle in her hand ready to fire off at the first sign of danger.

Soon afterwards they located the ship’s log. It told of chaos on the doomed ship. Apparently, something had gotten onto the ship by accident before spreading across the ship like an out-of-control-wildfire. What they wanted to know was what had caused the disappearances? There was no explanation in the log and an examination of the camera footage for the ship was equally chilling. The footage towards the end just cut out and nothing could be discerned from it. This left the crew of the Avenger with more questions than answers.
