The young girl with black hair shivered lightly as the cold north wind blew and she huddled up more in the doorway of someone's home or shop, no..it was probably a shop, there was no lights on in it and there was no movements coming from inside of it, sure, she knew this was risky being here with so many people looking for homeless kids or even adults though she was so cold she just wanted to stop moving and stay where she was for a while, trying to warm herself up for a bit before she would move again, still, she couldn't stay long. Luckily though it hadn't snowed yet, she would of been in big trouble if it had, with only a thin dress on, it wasn't much to keep the cold out really but she didn't have anything else to wear and no where else to go and so, she would have to just bare with it for now. However long it would be though, she really didn't know.

Kara, as she had been named, glanced up and around the dimly lit street silently before sighing, her breath coming out as fog in front of her as she glanced down at her knees that were tucked up to her chest. What a life, eight years old and no where to go, though it hadn't always been liked this, she did have somewhere to go really but it wasn't a home, that also was like a living hell and she didn't want to go back there, anywhere was better then back at the old children's home, anywhere at all. After a few more minutes of staying where she was, the girl blinked her blue eyes silently and glanced around once more, she always was trying to be careful of who was around though right now she gathered not many people would be being that it was nearly midnight and it was cold outside, very cold. After a moment though Kara made a mistake, one that would probably cost her dearly if she was unlucky, she didn't fall asleep, but, she closed her eyes and rested her head against the wall behind her, letting herself relax a little more as she kept her eyes closed silently, though sleep was out the question but rest wasn't, even if it was risky, she was tired and a little rest couldn't hurt..right?

"Keep silent. Stay discreet. In and out tonight."

They were hunting again. There never seemed to be enough blood and never enough servants. Why must they be so defiant? Compared to one such as himself, they were nothing more than cattle to be used as needed before being discarded. So why did they fight. This latest rebellion within his castle had cost him a good number of servants and blood cattle. And so he hunted for both tonight. The small town would remember his name for years to come. The thought made him smile.

Azmo pulled his cloak a bit tighter around him as he strolled the tight streets of the little town. It was chilly but bearable. He was looking for someone special to be his servant. His ire was growing and they'd need to be able to withstand his punishments. A piercing scream rent the night air and he smiled. So much for in and out as the rest of the town came alive with screams and shouts. His stroll turned into a run as a shopkeeper came at him with a pitchfork. In one smooth motion, he snapped it, flipped it, and jammed the splintered end into the man's chest. He licked the blood from his claws and smiled once more, white fangs gleaming in the night.

Oh yes. The hunt was on.

It was what seemed to be only minutes before a scream was heard and Kara opened her eyes suddenly, looking around and standing up quickly, her breathing had already increased a little bit from hearing the scream which filled her with fear suddenly. Looking around, the girl could hear more screams and people moving around and without even thinking about it, the girl turned and made a walk away from where she had been only seconds ago, not looking behind her she moved away from where she screams seemed to be and shook her head, it was probably just some people drunk and messing around, something like that, though it did sound awfully real and quite high pitched for it to be a fake or dunk scream, still, she refused to let it scare her completely and she continued walking away from where she thought the sound had came from.

Her black slightly torn dress she wore helped her to blend in with the night along with her black hair but her blue eyes stood out quite a bit, they were bright, very bright at that even, and she was looking up and around constantly, now worried slightly and panicked, she continued walking though. "It's just a prank...just a prank.." She whispered to herself quickly as she continued walking but hearing another scream again in the night, she froze on the spot and glanced around, her heart beating so fast it sounded like it was going to be a drum soon enough or burst out of her chest. Her black hair hung in her face slightly and her blue eyes tried to take everything in around her though she couldn't see anything..she could just hear it, the screams, the worrying voices of people. Something was going on and it wasn't far away either.

Azmo's blood sang as more screams pierced the night. He was moving more quickly now, cutting down the men of the village as he came across them. They could give him no fight worth wasting time over. The women and children would serve him and his house. Yes, blood and libations would flow freely tonight. A coven of hungry vampires and they all needed their fill.

"Sir! We've gathered all we need from here. Shall we return?" The vampire regarded his second with calculating eyes before nodding.

"Aye. Bring me a torch. We'll raze it to the ground. Fear will make the next one even easier to take."
His second nodded before running off to find a torch. Azmo waited patiently for his return and threw the burning piece of wood into the building closest him. As the smoke and fire whirled into a roaring blaze, the vampire turned and walked away.

He stopped abruptly as he'd thought faint whispering had fallen upon his ears. He walked back into an alley between to rundown buildings and slowly scanned the area, red eyes glowing crimson with hunger. A girl was hiding here. And from the looks of her, she had the fire to be his servant. He could use her, raise her, control her very being. He stooped and looked into her blue eyes.

"The life you knew, child, is over." With that, he snatched her up and disappeared into the night.

Hearing more screams and shouts which seemed to come closer, Kara moved over to a alleyway and glanced around quickly, just making sure no one was around and following her before she slipped into it and walked along it, her blue eyes looked at the wall, or what she could see of the wall anyway, as she continued walking as far as she could possibly go into the alleyway, luckily the wind also didn't seem as bad down here and even though she was cold, something was going on and she felt safer down here and more hidden then she did wandering around the street in the pure night where she screams were worst, they didn't seem as bad here and so maybe, whatever it was going on and whatever was causing the trouble and fear in the people, wouldn't see or hear her down here and she'd be okay, after all she was only small and she wasn't all that helpful with much and so, maybe she would be okay and wouldn't get noticed, if she stayed quiet anyway maybe she had a better chance, but still, the young girl had to breath in order to survive and it was rather heavy breathing at that thanks to the fact that it was cold and she was shivering a little along with her teeth chattering a bit as well even though she tried to stop them from doing so.

Moving a little from foot to foot in order to try and keep herself warm and well..alive, Kara glanced around the alleyway at everything around her, it was rather empty in the alleyway funnily enough, there wasn't all that much to hide behind really but at the same time the two walls were pretty close together and they offered as best shelter as she was going to get around her. "Stay calm and quiet." She whispered quietly to herself, as if seeking comfort and reassurance from herself, after all no one else was going to give it to her and so it was up to her to comfort herself. Though, hearing footsteps, Kara bit her lip and looked to the end of the alleyway, pushing herself against the brick wall she was behind a little more and trying to hold her breath as she saw the shadow of someone come closer to her and the girl watched whoever it was silently, trying to keep silent though in the end she had to breath again as she couldn't hold her breath for to long. It was only seconds after when someone was right in front of her and she looked up at him silently with fear shining in her blue eyes as she looked up and the first thing she saw was his red eyes. Opening her mouth to say something he spoke before her and before she could even respond they both disappeared into the night.

It took Azmo mere minutes to rejoin the rest of his party, with the girl tucked under his arm. The little thing had been shivering and chattering the entire time. He was rather annoyed with it. Perhaps he should have left her there to die. Clearing his mind, the vampire called his second over.

"Culston. Take this child. She's another for the servants." The blonde haired vampire bowed at his master's wish but couldn't hold back the inquiry in him mind.

"You've never picked out a servant, milord. You've always left it to us. Shall I leave her for your personal training?"

"No. She gets no special treatment. If she survives you, then I'll consider her for training. Take her away. I must feed." Azmo growled low in his throat, the hunger taking every part of him to control. Where the hell were the supply trains? There must be dozens of women here for him to feed on. Glancing around, he caught scent of the blood and jumped into the back of the wagon the women were being held in. His member swelled as the fresh blood filled his nostrils.

"Do no bother me until we have reached the castle." Turning to one of the women, a small brown haired thing, he sank his fangs into her breast and drank heavily.

Kara had been struggling along with shivering throughout the whole few minutes, when he stopped though she literally pulled away from him and stumbled back a little bit, though a worried yet also cold expression was wiped over her face as she looked up at him silently whilst trying to figure out where she was and what on earth had just happened. Confused was one of many things she was right now. Hearing the vampire speak, she frowned and shook her head "No. Wait. I'm..I'm not a servant." It was the first words she'd spoken in her rather quiet and soft voice but still, she wanted to somehow try and get her point across, whatever was going on she wanted to be no part of it or have anything to do with it either.

Looking from one of the vampires to the other, Kara shook her head wordlessly and stepped back "I'm not a servant." She said yet again with a slightly stronger voice. Hearing what the vampire who brought her here said, she watched him and her eyes widened as she looked to the other vampire, clearly they weren't about to hide what they were though she didn't like it, but then, what child would like knowing the fact that they and quite a few other people had been taken by vampires.

Within a split second the girl had turned and attempted to make a run for it, the same thing any child would do if they were in this situation, it was pretty much like a natural instinct to run, as far away as possible and as fast as possible, even though they probbaly were faster then her, she didn't care, it was worth a try.

Culston threw back the curtain of the carriage where his lord was currently feeding. He faltered for a second, seeing the state of his master. The bloodlust had taken him completely and his eyes still blazed a deep crimson red. Gathering his wits, Culston spoke. "Sir! The girl. She's made a run for it!" Azmo roared and snapped the neck of the woman in front of him in his rage.

"And you didn't think to run after her!" Culston made to run after the girl but Azmo threw him back into the carriage. "I'll do it my damn self. You will be punished severely for this." With nothing more than a cold glare, the vampire leapt from the carriage and ran off into the night. She couldn't run very fast. She was a child and the futility of her gesture was not last on him. Quickly gaining on her, he snatched the girl up again and roared in her face, fangs gleaming white and dripping with fresh blood.

"YOU ARE NOT TO LEAVE!" He slapped her across the face. The rage the vampire lord was feeling was immense but he could appreciate the icy coldness of her gaze. An idea sprouted in his mind and quickly took root. He spoke again, more calmly this time. "You aren't meant to be a servant. No, no. You are special. You will be my shadow. Where I point you go, when I give the command, you kill. Your training will start immediately.

It probably was the most stupid and childish thing Kara could of done, but then wait, she was a child. She was only doing what seemed normal to her, had she been five or so years older she might of actually had the wits about her not to make a run for it, though right now, she just did what her mind and body told her to do and that was get away from here as soon as possible even if she did hurt herself at the same time.

The girl actually thought her sudden motion had worked, after all she couldn't hear anyone behind her and she most certainly was not turning around to actually look. Though it was when she felt someone's hands on her did she frown lightly before she saw his fangs and her blue eyes widened in horror more then anything as the girl instead of struggling just froze, mainly in fear and shock. Sure, she'd had a few cuts and seen a bit of blood in her time, nothing that bothered her to much, though seeing it like that really wasn't something she was all to comfortable with and it proved by how she reacted, still, at least she didn't scream.

If he hadn't of been holding her, the slap would of been enough to probably knock Kara off her feet or at least make her stumble back a step or two, though now, her already cold and slightly sore right cheek turned a more fierce red colour then the left one as she snapped out of her shock and bit her lip lightly though her blue eyes remained focused on his for a moment more before she glanced away and moved a hand to touch her cheek lightly. "I don't want to be your anything" The girl muttered "I don't want to be around any of you. Just let me go" She half growled half whined, glancing up to him again, pulling against him slightly though hardly put any effort into it, showing that she knew it wasn't going to work.

"I didn't ask you if you wanted to be my shadow. I told you that you are going to be my shadow. And perhaps if you train well, you'll find your chance to take your vengeance against me." He completely ignored her request as if she hadn't spoken. Azmo turned once more to the makeshift group of vampires making their way back to his black castle. This time, he made sure his grip was tight. He had no patience for chasing after the whelp again. He glanced down at the icy eyed girl again, her red cheek standing out in stark relief against her pale skin.

Back in his younger, wilder days he'd have killed her for such insolence. Now however, he could realize that his clan was on the decline. They needed every body they brought in. He strolled on, taking long steps as he lost himself in his thoughts. Vampires had many enemies during these dark times. What he needed was a weapon. A well trained weapon.

When he told her the facts about what he had just said, Kara frowned and shook her head slightly though said nothing, arguing with a vampire wouldn't help her much right now and so it would just be easier to go along with it silently, for now at least. Though, she had little to no idea on where they were or even where they were going, it seemed she would just have to follow on silently and figure everything out for herself as there was no way she was going to bother to ask him any questions, there was little point in fact.

Having to nearly jog though to keep up with him, the young girl glanced over at a few other..people or were they vampires? Probably vampires, and sighed lightly, her icy blue eyes took as much as they could in though it was still dark and so her eye sight was limited right now to mainly shadows of things like trees and such. Taking another glance up at him she stayed silent, watching what he was doing which seemed to be thinking if anything.

"Where are we going?" Kara's voice sounded after a moment, you had to admire her sense of spirit, she still wanted answers even after everything that had gone on, she refused to be put off and stay silent, she wanted to know and find out as much as possible.

"We're going to my castle. You can see it from here." He pointed at a tall, dark building in the distance. It was a bleak monolith against the moonlit sky. An eerie spire pressed against the throat of the very sky itself. "That is to be your new home."

Taking stock of their surroundings, Azmo finally noted the full bodied evergreens of the forest, the crisp night air, and the brightness of the night. The caravan had continued moving without them but he knew they'd catch up soon enough. The vampire glanced down at the girl again.

"What's your name? Do you have any more questions? This will likely be the last time I attempt to get to know you, whelp."

Looking where he pointed, she looked at the dark building ahead of her though couldn't see it completely well, but still, she could make out the outline of it and that alone was enough for her as she looked back to him "Oh.." Her voice sounded distant now as she looked back to the building again silently, it might of been slightly nice looking on the outside though who knew what it was like on the inside, if she was even going to be able to go in the inside that was anyway, for all she knew she could be thrown down a cellar or something or put in a shed outside, she wasn't sure.

Listening to the silence around him, she was still thinking about what would happen when she got there, Kara had a small idea though for once on what might happen but either way, if it was good or bad she could do little about it apart from attempt to make things annoying if they locked her in a cellar or something.

Just about catching his question, she looked back over to him and frowned "My name's not whelp. It's Kara." She informed him rather bluntly, shaking her head a little. "I have two questions. The first one, what's your name? Secondly, have you ever done something you regretted?" She kept her blue eyes fixed on him silently after that, awaiting a response.

The vampire looked down at the girl, Kara she'd called herself. "You have fire, whelp. It is most impressive and speaks volumes for your kind. Rather than be ushered along like cattle, you'd rather fight. It's rather refreshing. As for my name, it is Azmodian. You may call me milord." He walked a bit further, mulling over the child's last question.

They'd finally rejoined the main road, just slightly behind the caravan before he bothered to address her last question. "I'm old, whelp. Very old. I've seen a lot in my day, I've done a lot in my time. Lots that most wouldn't be proud of. You don't get to be a Nightwalker as old as I without having some regrets. Tis the nature of vampires truly. It serves to cull away our humanity until all that's left is what you see before you." He paused in his dialogue, lost in thought and whisked away to a time long ago. A tumultuous time. A time when humans hunted the Nightwalkers. If the humans of now ever regained a portion of the knowledge they lost in the great war, vampires would have hell to pay.

Kara frowned when he called her whelp again though said nothing about it, she just continued walking and listened to what he said about his name silently, she did get the bit as well about her fighting back rather then just going along with things, but then, if she had been older, she probably would of just gone along with things but being the fiery natured and stubborn child she was, that right now wasn't one of her options. "I asked for your name. Not what I may call you." She informed him, doing the typical childish thing and remembering what he said earlier about not asking her if she wanted to be his shadow be telling her she was and taking it into her own account and using it in the same sort of way.

After waiting what seemed like quite a while as they walked along the main road, Kara glanced up to him again when he finally answered her other question she had wanted a answer to. When he stopped, the girl nodded but instead of saying anything to that muttered "I already told you. My name's Kara. Not whelp. You call me that, I won't be responding." She rolled her eyes before looking down at the ground underfoot, watching the dirt and stones under her along with some grass as well though she looked up again not long after, wanting to see what was ahead of her rather then underneath her.

Azmodian walked a long way in silence, starting to get annoyed with the girls impudence. Her silence was fine for him. He didn't much feel like talking to the girl. Although as much as she talked now, he knew he'd break her. He knew it as surely as he breathed. Whether she wanted it or not, she'd make a perfect shadow. As the caravan began to pass through the wrought iron gates, he spoke again.

"This is your last chance for questions, whe--Kara. For inside, your training will truly begin."

Not bothering to speak any more or ask any more questions, Kara took his silence as a slightly amused one, from her point of view anyway, clearly he was probably irritated with her, but being the child she was, she found that rather amusing and had to stop herself from allowing a smirk to spread across her lips or even a smile as she continued to look ahead of her. Despite the fact there was fear inside of the girl, quite a lot of fear at that, she wasn't allowing it to overcome her and take over her emotions and feelings, she pushed it down and instead let other emotions take over, not always positive ones but not completely negative ones either like curiosity and maybe a few more to mix in with it.

When he broke the silence finally, Kara at first was going to just brush off whatever he said being that he had nearly called her whelp again though when he actually said her name she looked over to him again and shrugged "I don't know. I can't think of any." She muttered before looking away from him, though she was curious about what this place was all about at the same time a part of her really didn't want to find out.

Azmo nodded and signaled for a vampire. "Take her to my dungeons and tell the Taskmaster that she's all his. She is to be well fed and cared for. I shall begin my training of her tomorrow. If I find one scratch on her, one bruise, ANYTHING to signal that he has broken my training of her, I will obliterate his bloodline. Now take her and go."

The vampire bowed low and scurried off with the girl. As for Azmo, he headed up the stone steps into his home and wandered the ancient halls. Tapestries lined the walls, depicting the history of all vampires. Torches lit the desolate halls, giving them an unearthly light. In the distance, a scream broke the silence and stillness. Feeding had started. Feeling the weight of his years, the vampire made his way to his room, seeking solace within his coffin. Tomorrow would be the birth of a Shadow.
