Drenched in sweat, the late afternoon sun burning through his bare back, it's oppressive burst of heat wearing out his tired muscles, Adam grudgingly walked down the empty, neighborhood street towards his small home. Running his strong, calloused hands over his shaved head, the tiny hairs sending tingling sensations through his palm, he stopped to catch his breath, bending over as his soaked shirt dangled over his chest, hanging from his shoulder. His broad frame cast a long shadow over the street, his naturally toned muscles glistening from the evaporating liqiud, several tattoos pinned to his arms, chest and back. His stern face was clean shaven and youthful, his shimmering wide, green eyes standing out against the dark tan. Groaning, his arms shaking slightly as he stood up straight, his six feet of flesh and bone trembling in exhaustion as he dragged his boots down the road, the ripped and worn jeans barely hugging his waist.
Stopping in front of the home he shared with his twin sister, the squared, small green lawn stretched across the small yard, alternating rectangular stones leading a path from the mail box to the porch, a large window with blue shutters hung above a string of lush, green bushes next to it. Adam walked towards it, sitting on the white, stone steps, the two squared, wooden columns to either side of him, placed on top of a brick molding, as the low hanging, sloped roof offered a brief respite from the dreadful heat. It had only been a few months since she had invited him to live with her and Adam had struggled to hold a job and help support her. Another angered tirade today caused him to lose his job working for a tree service company. His arms ached from the tiring work, his body exhausted and his mind restless, unwilling to tell her he had lost another employment.
Adam sat there for several minutes, contemplating how he would break the news. He knew she would not mind, would offer him sympathy and grace but he felt ashamed and worthless. Pathetic even. Finally pushing himself off the steps with a loud groan, his knees cracking under the stress, he passed the bench underneath the small front window before opening the door and heading inside their quiet home to find her and inform her of the news he was dreading sharing.
