Standing before the giant mirror in her room, Avery did a quick turn and curtsy, smiling happily as she looked over her beautiful white dress she’d rented for the school ball next week. Brushing her auburn hair out of her amber eyes, she cocked her head to the side trying to see herself in a better angle. Life was perfect for Avery, her grades were good, her parents loved her, and she even had a hot boyfriend who’d be willing to do anything for her as long as she asked. If there was one little thing she wasn’t pleased with, was the fact that her brother had turned into a shameful little geek. Always holed up in his room and infront of his computer it was simply appaling, and everytime her friends made fun of her brother, she was torn between blushing with embarrassment and trying to jump to his defence, trying to recall times before Bryan met the internet, a time before he became so anti-social and reserved.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her phone beeping. The rhythmic tune indicating that the text message was from her boyfriend, the jock. A faint smile played on her lips before she twirled herself around and made herself to her bedside, flicking open her sleek black phone and glancing over the text message. The excited little smile fading from her lips when she finished reading. Her lip trembling a bit, as her perfect little world had started crumbling. Not wanting to believe the message, she reread it again, much slower and carefully this time, though no matter how many times she read it, the message was the same. Her boyfriend wouldn’t be taking her to the school ball.
A fit of rage suddenly overcoming her, she hurled the phone over on her bed, violently pulling the dress and tossing it over her bed as well before slipping on cut-jeans, and a loose yellow sleeveless top. “Fuck you Dylan” she shouted angrily to no one in particular. It’d have been fine if it had been an emergency or something, but her boyfriend, Dylan, was going to the ball with his cousin, who’d missed her school ball a few years back due to travelling overseas. Everyone was permitted to bring one person a long from outside the school whether it be a friend, family or even a complete stranger, but there was only a week to go now, and she’d be a laughing stock if she went with anyone other than Dylan. She couldn’t even prepare a fake boyfriend in a such a short timespan, seeing as how all the hot guys would have been long taken. The last thing she wanted to do was invite one of those sleazy nerds in her classes, which probably didn’t intend on going. No doubt playing WoW or something at home while the rest of their peers attended the ball.
She hadn’t even realized the tears flowing down her face as she jumped on her bed, smacking her foot against the wall as she landed, causing a loud thud which could undoubtedly be heard by her brother who was in the room next door. A slight yelp of pain escaped her before she curled up in bed. Not having any idea what to do now that her plans for the upcoming week had been ruined.
