As the early morning sunshine pushed through the curtains and began to heat the room, a figure stirred in the bed. Soon, Brody Marston sat up, stretching with a yawn. Blinking sleep from his eyes, he glanced at the early hour and swore softly. “No one should have to get up this early on a Saturday” he muttered. A junior in college, the 20 year old was still living at home, enjoying the free lodging and home cooked meals, not to mention laundry service. Since his University was within driving distance it worked pretty well – for both him and for his mom, who hated to see her baby boy leave the nest.

That might be changing though, he thought as he shoved back the covers and climbed out of bed. His mother had met a man and after six months of dating, she had decided to marry again. He was happy for her since she’d been so lonely after his dad passed away but it had its downsides too. The main one being the stepsister he was inheriting as a result of this new romance. All he knew about her was that she was a teenager in high school but beyond that, he knew nothing. His mother said she wanted to keep it a surprise for the day they moved in. Which was why he was up in the first place; it was move in day. After grabbing a shower and getting dressed, Brody headed downstairs to snag some breakfast before the moving truck arrived.

Katlyn would never get involved in her dad's love life. It was just how she was. So when the near 18 year old heard the announcement that her father was remarrying, she bit back her tongue and acted like the happy daughter. She'd only met her mother-in-law twice and she seemed right enough for her father. They'd been alone for so long ever since her dad divorced her mother; it'd be hard for her to change from her usual routine. But there could be one upside to this. She'd finally have an older sibling. She didn't hear much about him just that he was in college.

It wasn't a lot of information about him, but she's met others with less information. As her father announced that they were finally on the street, she'd let out a soft sigh of relief. They were nearly there. And soon she'd be out of that stuffy car. Katlyn looked out the window, wondering just how weird it would be the first few days. Wasn't that often how living with strangers felt? As long as her dad was there she wouldn't entirely feel like she'd just started living with a band of murderers. There went her overactive imagination, making weird ideas. They were in the driveway. Her heart fell to the bottom of her stomach. Half-tempted to stay in the car, she had to nearly be dragged out of the vehicle by her father. He pulled her along, until they knocked at the door. Here goes, she thought; don't throw up and things should be fine.

He was halfway through a bowl of cereal when the doorbell rang, drawing a curse from his lips. They were earlier than he’d thought they’d be…or he had slept later than he’d meant. Either way, it meant his breakfast would have to wait. As his mother called him from the other room, Brody stood and shoved the bowl away, sloshing a bit of milk on the table surface, which he ignored. Moving gracefully into the living room, he chuckled at the sight of his mother virtually pacing back and forth, wringing her hands. She’d already told him she expected him to be on his best behavior that day and to welcome her new husband and his daughter but she was a nervous wreck herself.

“Geez, mom, chill out a little” he said as he placed his hands on her shoulders, holding her still. “You don’t want them to see you acting like a raving lunatic, do you?” His mother took a visible breath, the movement sending a shudder through her body, and then another. When she had finally calmed down, she gave a crisp nod of her head.

“You’re right, Brody. Can you be a dear and get the door?” He responded with a smile and smooth steps to the door, opening it with a twist of his hand. Standing on the stoop was a middle-aged man and a very pretty girl that looked like she’d seen the devil. “Hey there” he said, extending a hand to the man. “You must be mom’s new man. Welcome to our home. I’m Brody.” Glancing to the girl next, he gave her a warm smile, his gaze flicking over her quickly. It was habit, of course, but it made Brody cringe inside. She was his new sister after all and he needed to treat her like that.

((I am assuming that her dad knows his name but not him personally))
When that door opened, immediately her eyes went to her dad. He was the one who knew them more, not her. The little blonde held her purse a little tighter to herself as she waited for her dad to say something. Finally, after what felt like forever, Katlyn felt her dad drape an arm over her shoulder. She smiled at that male who opened the door. That had to be the son, she thought dumbly. "Brody, nice to meet you!" Her dad was always the warm and outgoing one. She generally kept to herself, keeping her outlandish personality at school where she needed it most.

"This is my daughter, Katlyn--we call her Kat." She rolled her eyes. No one she knew called her Kat, that was only her father's thing. She held out her hand to her new step-brother. Of course she eyed him quickly. To get in idea. Cute, she thought. Though she quickly recoiled that thought, knowing how wrong that was. Step-brother or not he was now pretty much family. So knowing that he was now her brother in some context she was ready to get things packed. "Are we gonna head in or what?"

Brody enthusiastically pumped the hand of the man that his mother had married, finding his grip firm and strong. Turning his gaze, he took in the teenager that stood at his side again, the smile widening. Reaching out, he took her hand next, marveling at how soft it felt and how tiny it looked against his own rough palm. His smile widened as he finally let go, his finger tips accidently sliding over her skin for just a moment. One that was long enough to send a spark of electricity through his body.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Katlyn” he said, ignoring the nickname her father had mentioned. Until she told him what she preferred to be called, he would refer to his new step-sister by her formal name. “Why don’t the two of you come in and we can figure out where you want all of your stuff placed before we start unloading it.” Stepping back, he held the door wider so they could enter. Having them here was going to be weird enough but now that they had arrived, he wanted to get the show on the road so to speak.

The jolt she felt in her fingers from his touch forced her hand backwards. Where did come from, she wondered? She smiled at 'Brody' as she learned, nodding quietly to herself. The first few days would be so awkward for her and she knew it. This wasn't her home at all. Sure, now she has to live her but that doesn't change things. She'll still feel unwelcome until it's been told otherwise. She took in a breath as she calmed herself down. "It's just Kat." She finally said, hands digging into her pockets.

As Kat eyed her dad she tried to see if anything else was needed. Damn, was her mind blank! This wasn't fair to her at all. Again she took another breath. "Okay then," she said as she was invited inside by her new step-brother. Katlyn felt her dad's hand on her back, pushing her forward. Well yeah I'm reluctant, she thought snidely. "Nice house you got here," she commented.

Brody smiled at her words and nodded. “Yea, mom did pretty well for herself, I guess. It’s your home now too, Kat. I know it will be weird at first but…truth be told…I’m kind of looking forward to having other people in the house.” He gave her a wink as he said it because what he really meant was that he was looking forward to having a sexy little step-sister in the house. Of course, those words would never leave his mouth in the company of their parents.

His mom stepped in then and gave Kat’s dad a big hug and kiss, taking his hand and leading him away. Watching them go, he rolled his eyes. “She’s going to show him the bedroom, no doubt. That woman has been counting down the days until you arrived. What do you say we go outside for a bit and I’ll show you the hard. That will give them some privacy.”

Katlyn had to admit that the prospect of having others in a household as quite appealing to her. After her mother left her and her father, it was just the two of them and the occasional girlfriend. But the girlfriends never stayed long; in fact, she was quite surprised this one did. She was thankful she didn't run off the moment she found out he had a teenage daughter. Even better that she had a child of her on. "Yeah. Now I have someone to talk to when I get grounded or something."

As she watched the newlyweds go away. She wasn't surprised that it was already happening that way. Her nose crinkled though, at the thought of those to going at it. "I hope the walls are sound proof, I really don't want to hear the new couple... exploring their room." Katlyn looked ahead at the yard with a widened smile, "I heard you're in college? Are you the stereotypical college male, or...?"

Her comment caused him to look at her harder and laughed. “You get grounded often, do you?” Letting his gaze drift over her again, he smiled as a thought flickered through his brain. He could think of a few punishments that would be fun to give her. As soon as the thoughts flickered through his brain, he felt embarrassed by them. She was going to be his step sister and hadn’t even been in the house for ten minutes before he was scoping her out.

At her next comment, he couldn’t help but laugh. “Yea, I have to agree with you. If I’m going to hear moaning and groaning in the house, I much prefer they be my own and those of my partner at the time.” Heading for the door, he held it open for her. “Yep, I’m in college though I don’t know about being the stereotypical male. I like to party and I guess I date when the opportunity allows. But I study too.” Soon they were outside and he began the tour, heading for the pool first.

"More often than I should." She pursed her lips, just before she grinned. "I have deep-rooted issues. Her husband truthfully wasn't always capable of taking care of her and just took the easy way out, which meant that he just grounded her for a week or two and expected the job to be done. "Or I'm just bad, who knows." She shrugged at the thought. She can only imagine what kind of company he could offer her though.

So he was blunt. And he'd probably be bringing women home? Or was that just her mind going straight for that? Katlyn preferred to keep her company out of her home, or her father would flip. "So I have to worry about hearing you, too? Oh dear." She looked at the pool, smiling. Good thing she brought her bathing suit. "That sounds about right. Never been to a college party... yet."

At her words, he glanced sideways at her, wondering just what kind of trouble his new step-sister got into. If it was like him at that age though, he knew it was probably quite a lot. His mom always bitched that she never knew what to do with him when he was like that. He still had a little bit of that inside him and wondered just how much fun it would be to trigger her also. “I’m thinking just bad” he said, grinning. “Like a little hellion on wheels.”

Laughing at his own words, he shook his head next. “Not any time soon unfortunately. I’m currently without a significant other…..unless you want to apply for the job.” He grinned when he said it, letting her know he was teasing, but his mind still went there. The image was vivid, her body on top of his slowly riding him, and he felt his body respond. “Well, we’ll have to fix that. The party I mean” he added lamely. Reaching the pool, he bent down and slipped his hand into the water. It was cool now but the heater would kick in that night. “Want to take a swim later? We heat it during the night.”
