As if it wasn't hard enough to deal with her parent's divorce, Jayde was forced to move with her mom to a completely different city. She had been certain that her father would've won her in the custody battle, but surprisingly, she was given to her mother. Most kids wouldn't complain about that being as her mom was completely carefree and couldn't care less about what she Jayde did, but she wasn't the kind of kid that would take advantage of that. Unlike most seventeen year old girls, she didn't show interest in partying and going out with guys. Really, her main focus was towards getting a good education. As far as she was concerned, all the other stuff could wait.

She sighed as they brought the last of the boxes into their new apartment, hundreds of miles away from the home they used to share with her father. Already, her mom was off to go check out the area. She had invited Jayde to go along, but really, all she wanted to do was lay in her bed and try to imagine herself someplace else. Figuring she had nothing better to do, she decided to unpack her things, hoping that by placing all of her belongings in her room, it would feel more like home. After an hour or so, she had everything put away, but it still didn't feel right.

Glancing at the clock, she saw that it was almost nine. Where the hell was her mother? The refrigerator hadn't yet been stocked and her mom was off with the car, leaving her stuck at home with an empty stomach. After grabbing a couple of dollars out of her purse, she wandered out into the hallway, hoping to find a vending machine somewhere nearby.

Philip was walking down the hall way of his apartment complex. He had just got back from the library and was already nose deep into his new novel. Luckily he know the hallways like the back of his hand. He had lived in the same apartment with his parent for 18 years and he knew all his neighbors and their routines. There was just one empty apartment on the floor he lived on and it was right next to his own, but he didn't think that any one would move in until after he was graduated and gone to college. As he turned the corner at the intersection at the center of the building of his floor he walked straight into something and fell to the floor smacking his head against the wall and falling unconscious.
