George Walker and his wife Moreen, had been married 15 years and Kaitlin, their daughter, was now finally old enough to be left alone for an afternoon. Shortly after her thirteenth birthday, they decided to take advantage of her newly found independence and spend the afternoon on the golf course. Moreen loved to golf, and George, though not an avid golfer was more than willing to go along for the ride . It was a bright sunny day, and they had no inkling what the weather was to bring them. As they approached the tee on the eighth hole, dark clouds had appeared on the horizon. They were now as far away as possible from the club house and so decided to finish up 9 holes, and quit early. The decision had been a fatefu one, as Moreen was struck by lightning 10 minutes later of the eighth green, and killed instantly. Telling Kaitlin of her mother's death , was the darkest moment of George's life, and started a new chapter for both of them. They clung to one another from then on, never failing to check on each other or be there when fears arrose. Six years later, with Kaitlin 19 years old, and George turning 42, their life together had reached a happy routine, and though Moreen would never be forgotten, they had both accepted the finality of her absence and gone on with life together as they were. The only reminder they regularly faced were thunderstorms which still, six years later, struck fear and grief in both of their hearts. Ironically it was during the storms that they felt both fearful, and close to one another. This was especially true of Kaitlin.
