It was a beautiful day in the small town of Belmon. The vegetation was green, the sky was blue, and the air was crisp. Being from a large city and university, Romi couldn’t help but feel more at peace with the lack of busyness on the streets and the loud music around the block. She hummed softly in the back of the taxi as she rested her arm over the opened car window. She took a deep breath of the clean fresh air, smelling a distinct scent of farmland. It filled her nostrils quite quickly since she wasn’t used to it and lightly coughed, not liking the sour and sweet smell of cow manure. The taxi driver looked at Romi from the rear-view mirror and smiled. “It looks like we arrived, miss.”
Romi couldn’t help but smile herself, feeling her heart race as the Belmon Asylum came into view. “What a beautiful building,” she said, taking in the gorgeous and antique structure.
After she got out of the taxi and paid for her traveling expense, she fixed her newly bought nurse outfit. She had beautiful dark blue eyes that complimented her light blue hair. She dusted off her pink skirt and fixed her nursing cap, before walking across the pavement towards the large doors of the building. Her heels clicked across the hard surface, causing it to sound like a beat of a metronome.
As she opened the door, leading to the entrance hall, she heard a death-curling scream. A woman with a straight jacket was fighting against two male nurses, not caring if her body slammed against the walls. Romi’s eyes widened as the crazy woman looked at her and started to laugh maniacally and yelled, “BLUE BLUE BLUE BLUE!!!” Romi quickly walked into the receptionist’s office and started breathing very heavily.
“Are you alright, dear?” the receptionist asked softly, distracted from her paperwork toward the quite frightened newcomer. “You’re the new intern aren’t you?” Before Romi could compose herself and respond, the receptionist waved a hand of dismissal and nodded. “It’s quite alright. All the new interns get their own unique welcome; whether it is Tori, whom you’ve been acquainted with already or Gerry, who should be in his cell by now.” She checked a sheet of paper that was taped to the wall of names and schedules of each patient as well as the assigned nurse(s). “Ah, it looks like your patient is new as well. His name is Kale and apparently he has MPD.”
Romi’s lips curled into a small smile. “Multiple Personality Disorder is actually what I was hoping to get! I have been studying so much about them. I hope he’s not too bad.”
The receptionist, whose nametag stated Penny, raised her eyebrow. “Bad? Well, I’m sorry to break the news to you honey, but all the patients here are in bad shape. That is why this is called an asylum.” She winked at Romi and gave her some paperwork to fill out before taking her to ‘The Hangout’.

“What is this hangout room for?” Romi asked as she walked alongside Penny, hearing their heels echo in the vacant white hallways.
“Oh, this is the place where all the patients can meet one another and play chess or some other board games to keep them at least sane for some time. It is also a place where we introduce our new interns to the patients and let them meet their assigned patient and talk with them for a limited time before going to their assigned cell. If anything happens during your short talk, there will be bodyguards there in the hobby room; however, if you’re alone with him in his cell, there is a red button you can push which is located on the wall next to the door.” Romi didn't like the sound of that, but of course, if she wanted to become a nurse, she needed to learn how to handle every situation possible.
Penny opened the door to ‘The Hangout’ room and waved her hand for Romi to walk in first. Romi stepped into the room and looked around at all the patients lounging around, either playing chess or talking to each other or even themselves. I wonder which patient is Kale, she thought to herself as Penny grabbed everyone’s attention and introduced Romi to all the patients in the room.
“Good afternoon everyone, please look over here. I have a new intern with me to introduce to all of you. Her name is Romi and will be taking care of one of your new additions to the Belmon family - his name is Kale.” She smiled over to Romi and looked around the room seeing some patients pace back and forth, eye Romi in paranoia, and not even pay attention at all. “Kale, can you please step forward so your new nurse can see you?” Romi’s heart raced as she was nervous yet excited to find out who her new patient would be and what he looked like.
