Peace. Tranquility. Escape. Paradise.
She loved nature, more than she probably should. Ever since she was a child, Haruna had been unfathomably addicted to the fresh air. The sun, she drank it in like a glutton, and practically bathed herself within the fresh waters of a lake every day. It was a relief, to know that despite the absence of her beloved parents now, that she still had a place to go, to remember them fully. Their cabin. They had bought it together years before she was even thought of. Practically raised within the cozy, wooded confines of the small home every summer, it held a very special place in her heart. Especially now, after the deaths of her mother and father.
It had merely been a few weeks ago, that they were caught in a vicious car wreck. It had taken them both instantly, together. Haruna was still trying to come to terms with the fact that she would never see them again. Her quaint job as a freelance artist was giving her financial stability, but with the sudden distress put upon her mindset, her works were beginning to suffer. She had needed to get away. From it all. The bustling streets, the honking horns, the midnight escapes down Main street. The screaming pedestrians and the concrete jungle that she was currently residing in. It was all too much for her, and with only one place to run to, she quickly packed her bags for two weeks. Haruna knew this was for the best, given, the second she had arrived...she felt so much better. It was if the calming presence of her parents still lingered, and made her feel whole again.
Never having been one to enjoy being alone, she had invited four of her closest friends. They had been a pack since elementary school, and while she often felt like the fifth wheel, given that both sets were currently dating, it didn't deter her from enjoying their company. Twiggy had brought an impressive amount of home-baked cookies, something his boyfriend, Phrax, was determined to eat all by himself. While Selia and Jordyn took it upon themselves to provide the liquor, it was a far better experience than she had planned. Haruna had both the means of sating her sweet-tooth, and her desire for a good buzz. This was paradise.
Licking off the sweetened, tangy wine from the corner of her mouth, she watched as Phrax affectionately tickled Twiggy whilst the smaller male tried to pour himself a drink. Selia was off in the kitchen, trying to find something to hold the ice, while Jordyn was fiddling with her father's old record player. Soon enough, the baritone timbre of classic jazz filled up the cabin with ease, and made her skin tingle with remembrance. She wanted to take this moment for all it was worth, and thus, untangling her slender legs from beneath her, she quietly made her way out towards the back porch. It overlooked a small lake nearby, the very lake she had learned to swim in. The moon was high and full, glazing over the rippling surface. Her glass of wine was forgotten upon the outside table, before she kicked off her slippers and rushed down towards the shore.
There was a bite to the air, the chill making her shiver...and forcing goosebumps to arise upon her porcelain complexion. Haruna sighed, crossing her arms over her chest, her tender frame swallowed up by the over-sized sweater she was currently wearing. Why did things have to end like this? She'd never understand it, and while she was hoping for some kind of answer, she knew she'd never get anything of the sort.
