Ladon sat not to far away from the hunter’s camp. With her mottled grey green skin, she blends perfectly with the dark forest. Her coal black eyes don’t even reflect light from the fire light, she’s that close to the hunter. He isn’t even paying attention. It would be a simple matter of grabbing him and taking him skyward. She gathers her muscles, preparing to spring. She lunges, knocking him from his seat. Before he can reach for his sword she snatches him up in her jaws and takes wing.
Her den is high in the mountains, impossible to get to without flying. Ladon makes sure not to barbecue the hunter as she flies. Like a dog bringing back a stick she drops him at the very back of the cave. She speaks into his mind. “You can hear me, petty human. You have drank much of my kind’s blood and eat our hearts. You killed my mate, and I am the only female dragon left. It will be you that will mate with me.” Ladon let a puff of smoke loose from her snake like nostrils.
