Thank God the weather was finally cooling down! Jake thought as he ran through his neighborhood. He passed the green grass and white picket fences of suburbia, dressed in his favorite black tanktop and the blue and white athletic shorts that had his schools mascot emblazoned upon them, a falcon in a high-speed dive.
He turned down a side street and had to wait at an intersection, jogging in place to keep his heart rate up, while minivan after minivan turned. Finally he had the walk light and sped across the road to the jogging path next to the lake. He loved taking this route, especially in fall, when the leaves started changing, it was Semptember and the first of the green oak and elm trees had sprouted their red and golden crowns.
He followed the path around the lake stopping for just a moment to stare at some girls in bikinis, sun bathing on towels, he smirked and waved but they barely noticed him. That was the problem with living in a college town, he might be the quarterback, but he was still just a high schooler and with so many college hunks walking around it was hard to turn the heads of any girl.
He shook his head, his shaggy black hair tousling in the wind, he stared down into the water to see his own tanned face looking back at him, with his small freckled nose and bright blue eyes. He shrugged, soon he would be a freshmen at university, it was less than a year away, then he would get all the women he wanted, he vowed to himself.
Jake began to speed up his pace for the last leg of his journey, he usually ended at the school where he could lift some waits if he wanted to, or swim in the pool or even take a nice cold shower.
He rounded the bend to the school following the fence that surrounded the baseball field. He approached the back door of the field house and rested his hands on his knees and caught his breath. " A shower sounds awesome," he panted to no one but himself, as the sweat dripped from his dark locks and spotted the black asphalt.
