Botch job. But then, it was always meant to be.
Lord Mayhem was always meticulous about his plans, his timing was normally down to the second and this plan had been no exception. He had entered the bank at 10:42 precisely and used his mind control powers to render the bank's staff unconscious, before striding towards the vault. He made sure to wave at the cameras as he passed. Dressed in his purple and black business suit with matching cape flowing behind him, he had prised the vault door from the wall with dark forces and begun teleporting the money to a secure location. All of this had been done by 10:47.
So why, at 10:58, he was still stood in the lobby of the bank, surrounded by sleeping tellers was anyone's guess. If the woman who glided through the bank door moments later had superpowered intellect to match her energy blasting abilities, she might have questioned the situation in greater detail. Instead, Lord Mayhem launched into his usual grandstanding to distract her, whirling his silver cane in a grandiose display.
"Ah, the hero of the hour!" he declared, "Or should I say 'heroine'? Good morning Justice Girl, are you here to make a withdrawal?"
"Shut it Mayhem!" she demanded, pointing a finger at him. "Stooping to robbing banks? You must be getting desperate!"
Lord Mayhem paused before laughing, enjoying seeing Justice Girl's self-righteous smirk. She did look good, in her white and gold spandex suit that did little to hide her curves. She was the slender sort, not very muscled and if it wasn't for her ability to throw power bolts about, she'd never have got far in the heroing game. As it was, surrounded by her golden aura, her blonde hair streaming out behind her as she hovered in the lobby, he almost pitied what was about to befall her.
"Not quite as desperate as you will be," replied Lord Mayhem before snapping his fingers.
From out of nowhere, black, sinewy tendrils appeared from the corner of the room and snapped their way around Justice Girl's limbs, pulling on them and holding them tight. The gloopy, dark tendrils stretched around her, ensnaring her as if she were caught in a spider web.
"Let go of me now!" she demanded, struggling to get free.
Lord Mayhem just laughed. "No," he replied. Around them, the mesmerized tellers and staff just slept on, unaware of the confrontation.
"What are you going to do with me?" demanded the captured heroine.
"Oh, it's not me you have to worry about," he replied, resting on his cane. He whistled and indicated a door next to him. "I think someone else has far worse plans for you than I could ever imagine..."
