The evening was a beautiful one. Stars dotted the inky purple sky and nary a cloud marred the beautiful sight. The smell of fresh flowers carried on the breeze; the honeysuckle were in full bloom and tinged the air with their beautiful aroma. Low in the sky a full moon was just beginning to rise. It was a special moon; the second that month. Such a moon was made for magical incantations and spells. Amaris was not going to waste this opportunity.
Down to the open field she stole away. In her arms was the large magical tome that she was learning her spell work from. A page in particular had been bookmarked. Minutes before she had searched the book, with its handwritten spells, for this ritual. Attached to her back was a pink book bag. Inside were various tools including an athame, sage smudging sticks, and incense. The work was supposed to be precise; each thing triggering a different energy of the universe but Amaris decided that it did not really matter. The intent was all that matter. The universe would understand. She arrived at her secret place, near an old oak tree with gnarled roots and limbs. Off came the pack from which she withdrew all of her supplies.
It did not take long to setup her circle. The scent of her incense filled the small space. The spell called for sandalwood but the young woman did not like the way it smelled. So opted for Dragonâs Blood instead. After that was done, she opened the book and pressed her face to the pages. The pale moonlight was scarcely enough light to read. Whatever. She could do it. If needed she would make up some words. She just needed to get this. At her age she was one of the few that did not have a familiar and if one wouldnât come to her, she would make one come to her. Seventeen was mighty old.
As she began the chant, her golden locks began to bellow around her. Light encircled her. It was working! Excitement filled her and she began to chant louder. Every living thing hummed around her. If she were paying attention she would have been able to tell that they were giving her a warning. Amaris did not care. Bright violet eyes sparked with her energy surge.
To her shock a portal began to open. That was odd. Did familiars need such a big opening? To her knowledge they were supposed to be able to shimmer between different realms. Oh well, this must have been quite the impressive familiar.
