Natalia was on her way back home from a gymnastics competition in the city, driving herself back home to the town quite a ways away. Her parents had promised to take her, but as usual they'd been called away to work on some emergency or another. It was lucky she'd passed her driving test the week before really otherwise she never would've made the competition at all...let alone won it. Not that she expected anything less than first place. She was damned good after all. But hey, she practised hard and now she was reaping the benefits. The trophy, the smug sensation, not to mention the reputation it would earn her when she finished school and could go professional.
The roads were empty, and the sky was dark and cloudy, the stars obscured from view. It was a fairly typical night on this stretch of road really, empty fields on either side, the lights of the city fading away behind her. It would be another 45 or 60 minutes before she got to town, until then she doubted she'd see anything else at all besides maybe a small animal that ran out into the road.
Perhaps that was why she was so surprised by the light coming from the sky. At first she thought it was a plane, but there shouldn't have been anything flying around there at that time of night. Besides, it was moving all wrong. This seemed to be something....falling? Before Natalia could really figure out what it was, the object came much lower, streaking overhead in a practical fireball, then smashing into one of the fields just ahead of her, the impact so hard that the ground shook beneath Natalia's car, the girl quickly applying the brakes to keep from losing control. "Wh-whoa...." She panted for a few moments, then looked up and gasped. She could see the light and smoke from the fire. Immediately she put her foot down, the car racing down the road. Her first thought was to check the site, see if anybody was there, if anybody was hurt.
Within minutes she had parked up at the side of the road, hopping the fence, still in her gymnastics outfit, and running towards the impact site, a large crater. Coughing as she made her way through the smoke, Natalia began to call out. "Hello? Hello is anyone there?! Is anyone alive out here?! If you can hear me say something! I'll try to come and help you!!"
