The sun rose as always over the city of Menoas, brightening the horizon and giving the city a wake-up as the castle of the queen brimmed with activity. The castle itself was set into the western mountains, creating an almost impregnable fortress of power, where towers dotted around it to create a solid defense.

The first tower bell rang stridently, waking up most of the occupants inside the Menoas castle. This included the elf that laid upon the covers of his bed, breathing softly as his right hand hung comfortably off the bed. When the bell rang a second time, the elf's ears pricked up as he opened his eyes, staring at a curved lump that his face was currently pressed against. He coughed gently, rolling off to the side before landing on the balls of his feet, his dark brown hair ruffled from the activities of the night before. As he was currently naked, the elf stood up and walked to the vanity desk, retrieving his pale-blue underclothes and white doublet, which fell down neatly to the back of his feet, which were quickly covered by dark leather boots.

Looking in the mirror and brushing his hair to the side, Haeder Youngflame made himself look presentable as he got himself clothed. He was Master of the Council for the queen, and personal adviser, so he had to look his best. A dark green dress was crumpled on the floor in a messy heap, making Haeder sigh and lean over to retrieve it.

"Wake up," he called out to the lump that was hidden beneath the coverlets. The figure moved partially out of the bed, revealing to be a golden-haired woman, who was covering herself up in a demure-like fashion. He smirked, and tossed the dress to her.

"I hope you enjoyed yourself, m'lord," the young human woman said with a shy smile.

Haeder scoffed and shook his head with a smile before speaking, "I did, but now I need you to leave. I must meet with the queen . . ."

The elf buttoned up his doublet, taking one last look in the mirror before grabbing the small pouch on the desk. He unceremoniously tossed it to her, paying the "lady of the night" for last night, though they were much more affectionately known as "whores".

Haeder left his room to be accompanied by his personal household guardsmen, who were also of his race, the Menoas Elves. They were silver-plated armor engraved with the royal family's insignia, carrying two steel broadswords by their hips as they walked down the carpeted hall of the "keep". After a few more twists, turns, and stairways, Haeder and his guards came upon the queen's room. As was suspected, the queen's guards stood vigil by his door, though they relaxed once they saw Haeder.

"Wait here," he ordered his men, stepping up to the width of the door and knocking gently on it at least four times. "My queen? Are you awake?" he asked out calmly, waiting for a response.

Elanessë stirred with a groan when the unwelcomed sound of the tower bells rang to wake the city from it's slumber. In attempt to block out the intrusive sound stuck her head under her pillow. Her attempts were in vain when she heard the dull thud of her chamber doors being opened and shut followed by hurried footsteps. Her curtains that shielded her chambers from the sun were drawn back allowing the sun's warmth to flood the room.

"M'Lady you best wake this instant or I will drown you where you sleep," The elderly maid said in a stern yet kind voice as she pulled the thick blanket off of Elanessë's bed.

With another groan Elanessë peaked out from under her pillow, glaring daggers at the older woman who for many years had taken care of her." I could have you hung for waking me woman," she said through gritted teeth. It was an empty threat because the older woman was a very dear servant.

"Ah M'Lady but then who would, run your bath, bring you your tea, braid your hair and take care of you when you have taken with a fever?" The older lady asked with a chuckle. "Come, I shall go see that a bath is run and set up your breakfast...will Master Haeder be joining you?"

The elf Queen stood up and picked up a silk robe that hung from over a divider, and slipped it on,"Haeder always joins me for breakfast," she said walking over to her vanity desk and sitting down to brush her hair out. Elanessë was considered a great beauty but was also known to rule her people with an iron fist which led to dislike. She took her advice from Haeder, who was her most trusted adviser and friend.

"Very well M'Lady" the older women left the room.

Elanessë sat quietly still brushing her hair out when she heard another knock at the door and Haeder's voice call to find out if she was awake.

"Enter" She called to him. When he entered she looked at him through her mirror as she continued to brush her long mahogany locks. "Ah Haeder, I trust you are having a good morning?" Her tone was suggestive knowing well enough he never went to bed alone.

Haeder only needed to wait a brief moment before he was called in by the queen's lovely voice. He opened and closed the door, walking in before turning around to lay his eyes on Elanesse, a small smile appearing on his mouth. "Good morning, Your Grace," he greeted her with a slight incline of his head to show respect. To the matter of his own sleep, Haeder chuckled and smirked.

"A very good morning, my queen," he replied, not at all ashamed of having the queen know that he fucked whores at night. "And you? I trust you had enough sleep."

Walking closer, the elf admired Elanesse as she combed her hair. Indeed, she was truly magnificent, in both figure and mind. However, he knew that she was still naive to most of the working politics in Menoas. Especially his own plans. It's unfortunate that it would have to come to that . . . oh well. It must be done, he mused, sitting down in the chair across from her, folding his hands in his lap.

Elanessë smirked at his reply. She wouldn't deny his charm and good looks were enough to make any woman fall at his knees. She too felt some attraction for him however as queen she was forced not to act on her feelings. Instead he is her closest friend and most trusted adviser. Elanessë watched as he took a seat across from her.

"Haeder, please you do not have to address me in such a formal fashion when there is no one else around." She placed the hairbrush down on the table. The sleeve of her gown slipped off her shoulder teasingly. "My sleep was peaceful." she said as she folded her arms leaning back in her chair. As queen, no man was allowed to touch her unless married to her. This however did not stop her from flirting.

It had only been a few months since her father had died leaving the kingdom in her hands and even though she understood the theory of running the kingdom it was a lot harder to do in practice. They were already on the verge of war and Elanessë relied on Haeder for guidance.

"What do we have on the agenda today?"

Haeder smiled calmly and rose his hands in defense, nodding. "Yes, Elanesse. Of course," he answered, his eyes flickered to the bit of flesh that was exposed when her gown slipped off her shoulder. His body hungered for her, he knew, but that would arrive . . . in time. "That is good."

"Today, Lord Devoun is going to propose we hold a tourney, in order to get back some of the money that the crown has lost. Alternatively, Lord Manchester will report on your army's movements in the south," he explained, leaning back comfortably as he smiled.

Elanessë nodded as she tapped her nails against the table."And where does Lord Devoun expect us to pay to hold such an event when every resource is going towards the army supplies?" She shook her head resting her head in her hands massaging a tension headache that was developing. "Do you think a tournament would work?"

Just then the door burst open and Eliza, Elanessë's maid rolled in a trolley which held a breakfast for two. "Master Haeder, I trust you slept well." She greeted him as she wet out fruit and toast and bacon out on the table and pot of tea. She turned to Elanessë, "M'lady your bath is ready after breakfast." with that she left the two alone again.

Elanessë simply nodded at the older woman. She then reached over and picked up a strawberry biting into it.
