Jack lay on his back on his bed. His head hung upside-down and his hands gripped a video game controller. As evidenced by his concentrated stare, he was intensely engrossed by the game. His mother came to the door and leaned against his doorframe. "Jack you know that's terrible for you. Honestly I don't even know how you see anything playing upside down like that" she mumbled. "Now, come on your father and I are about to go so come say goodbye so I can at least feel somewhat secure leaving you here with your brother."

Jack muttered something about the blood in his head and better reactions, then grudgingly paused the game and slid off the bed to follow his mom. He helped her lug her baggage to the car and slid it in for her. She stood on her toes to kiss his cheek and bade him farewell. Jack wasn't particularly tall, he was average but their mother was tiny. Jack was lithe, normal height for his age and fair of skin. He went to say goodbye to his dad as his brother moved in on their mom. With goodbyes said, Jack stood in the garage doorway as their parents pulled away, their mother streaming warnings and reminders all the way into the distance until they couldn't hear nor see the car any more. They were alone. At last.

Of course their parents had to go off on a business trip together and leave the two of them alone. Not that there was anything wrong with that, he thought sarcastically to himself. Tristan was only one year younger than Jack but his older brother tended to act as if he was the eldest when he wanted to get something out of it and that was never a good thing for him. Sometimes he made him cook and bake in their parents absence and other times he had him do other things. But he was always at his worst when their parents were away and now they were gone for an entire month, having left money with Jack to take care of anything that might spring up that they might need. Tristan quickly turned to go back inside, hoping to get up to his room before Jack had time to make him do something like cook, bake, clean or tend to him. They got along fairly well when their parents were around but not so much when they were alone, so things would be rather interesting.

That much was for certain.
