Melody was a typical nerd; she would read comic books, keep up with the latest films of several kinds, play a wide selection of video games. She wasn't ashamed to admit that she was a nerd and most people at the school knew that. But that also meant she was the butt of many jokes told by the more popular students at the school.

Melody didn't mind though. She enjoyed what she had for the most part and never really thought she'd have the chance to change anything about her life. For the most part.

Ian was a wealthy guy who loved sports. He played basketball and was captain of the team. He was the most popular guy in school. He dated many girls but basically just used them for sex. Most of his friends were on the team with him and hung out together after games and drank at the party whoever was throwing that night.

Melody had never thought to go to a sports game before, but there was a group of her friends who had decided to go to support their club one night. They made a deal with the sports centre in the school that part of the ticket sales and concession profits would go back to their chess club, giving them a good bit of the money they would need to go to Central Park later that year for a large competition that was being held. Luckily, the coach of the basketball team had agreed to it.

She sat in the back of the bleachers, watching the game for the first time in her life, trying to figure out everything that was going on and why the two teams felt the need to fight over the orange ball.

Ian was playing hard and was putting in 110% like it did at every game. He wanted to do his best at everything. He had the best three point shot in the state. Every time he got the ball and shot it went in with a swish. He loved that sound. He was always a team player though. He did the plays and passed when he needed to but he also took the shot if it was there. He was getting hot and sweaty and out of breath. He glanced over and noticed Melody a few times.

He had saw her a few times around school and always thought she was cute but never talked to her. He never saw her at a game before. He heard about the money for the park so he figured that's why she was there. He kind of forgot she was there and kept playing hard.
