Jen stared at him, lounging on the couch and reading a magazine, as he packed his stuff for another ‘vacation’ from her. Honestly, she thought he requested time away from home just to get away from her. All they did was fight anymore. She tried, in the beginning, meeting him at the door in sexy lingerie. All she got was a look and an I’m tired hun. So giving up was the easiest route, if he wasn’t going to work at it then why should she make a one sided effort?
She had been staring at the page for so long, in thought, she didn’t even hear him at first. She returned his smile easily, a fake one sliding upon her lips as she pointed at a plate. “I made chicken parm last night for us; you didn’t show until after I was asleep so I had enough for dinner tonight as well.” Her voice was hollow; the bitterness had worn off a time ago. She stood, tossing the magazine onto the coffee table before grabbing her plate. She was a personal assistant to a corporate bigwig, she loved her job and at times, she felt it kept her sane.
“All packed?” Jen asked over her shoulder, the swish of her hips accentuated by the skirt she wore. Bare footed they were an inch apart in height sh being the shorter, but she frequently wore heels making her taller. Her brown and caramel highlighted hair was pulled back in a silky ponytail that just touched the nape of her neck. Large green eyes swept over his features as she reentered the room. She paused in the door way her heart shaped face tilting slightly as she checked her watch. “I have an early day tomorrow, I’m heading to bed.”
She blew him a kiss, “See you when you get back. Be safe.” No I love you, she wasn’t no longer sure if that was what she felt, her heels made a sound on the wood as she made her way to their room where she stripped and dressed for bed. She had needs and if he weren’t willing to meet those then she’d find a way to do it.
